Exercise and Movement to increase JOY levels
ex·er·cise noun
1. activity requiring physical effort, carried out
especially to sustain or improve health and fitness.
move·ment noun
1. an act of changing physical location or position.
A few reasons to Exercise and Move:
1. Exercise / Movement combats health conditions and diseases “Worried about heart disease? Hoping to prevent high blood pressure? No matter what
your current weight, being active boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," choles-
terol and decreases unhealthy triglycerides. This one-two punch keeps your blood flowing
smoothly, which decreases your risk of cardiovascular diseases. In fact, regular physical ac-
tivity can help you prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and concerns, in-
cluding stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, certain types of cancer,
arthritis and falls.” (www.mayoclinic.org)
2. Exercise / Movement Improves Mood
There’s research out there that says that exercise is helpful for treating short term mood
AND also for depression.
3. Exercise / Movement boosts energy
“Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance.
Exercise and physical activity deliver oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and help your car-
diovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lungs work more effi-
ciently, you have more energy to go about your daily chores.” (www.mayoclinic.org)
4. Exercise / Movement promotes better sleep
5. Exercise / Movement help you get embodied
Embodiment or fully IN YOUR BODY will lead not only to more presence which directly leads
to more happiness (See Matt Killingsworth, Ted Talk). And being fully IN YOUR BODY leads to
healthier self image.
6. Exercise / Movement improves Body Image (especially weights)
Feeling stronger in your body helps promote a better feeling about your body.
7. Exercise promotes body density. (especially weights)
8. Exercise / Movement helps maintain mobility as we age
How you want your body to feel as you get older starts with how you are moving it now.
9. Exercise can help you lose weight but it is more effective for weight
maintenance
Exercise is NOT the most effective way to lose weight unfortunately or fortunately
depending on how you feel about exercise.

Exercise Connection to others
We know we need to be moving to
support our awesome life …
so how can we
make it a higher
JOY
frequency?
1. Check the motivation… WHY are YOU moving
(or not moving) the way that you are???
2. How do you want your body to feel / perform
for you in 5 years?
In 10 years?
In 15 years?
3. Are YOU getting the appropriate dose? IF so what feels good about it and if not, what is preventing that?
(maybe write both what feels good and needs some attention)
4. What will you commit to trying that might
increase the JOY level in your life with
regards to how you exercise / move? (think baby steps)
5. Why is this commitment important to you?
