Remember that the verb GUSTAR is not used like other verbs.

You don’t conjugate GUSTAR into each form like you normally do with most verbs.

There are only two forms – gusta and gustan

Me gusta (n)

Te gusta (n)

Le gusta (n)

Nos gusta (n)

les gusta (n)

Conjugating the verb Gustar

***You can use a 4 step system to conjugate gustar correctly – see your table

Step 1

First, begin with the following clarifiers:A mi me…A ti te…A nosotros nos…A (él, ella, John, Bob) le…A (ellos, ellas, Uds. ) les…

(Note – these are not always needed, but they are needed when we use “le” or “les”.

Step 2Add :me/te/le/nos/lesAccording to the appropriate subject

STEP 3:

Then, for all forms, add either…Gusta = When talking about only ONE thing you like (or when using an infinitive).Ex. A mi me gusta el vestido (I like the dress – one thing)Ex. A ella le gusta leer (She likes to read – leer is the infinitive)

Gustan = When talking about MORE THAN ONE THING.Ex. A mi me gustan manzanas ( I like apples – apples is plural)

STEP 4:

Is simply adding the thing that is liked.

Examples:Las manzanas (gustan)La pizza (gusta)Las chicas (gustan)Estudiar (gusta)Bailar (gusta)Etc.

Forms of gustar

ExamplesI like the cat = A mi me gusta el gato.

I like cats = A mi me gustan los gatos.

We like to read = A nosotros nos gusta leer.

Other verbs similar to gustar:

There are several other verbs that are used in the same way as gustar…they are :

Encantar = to love (not romantically

-to really like)

A mi me encanta esquiar.

A mi me encanta la música.

A mi padre le encantan motocicletas.

Fascinar – to fascinate

A Bill Gates le fascinan las computadoras.

A los ratones les fascina el queso.

Molestar = To bother, to annoy

A mi me molesta mi hermano.

A nosotros nos molestan los mosquitos.

Importar – to be important to/to care about

A mi me importan mis notas y mis clases.

A ti te importan tus amigos.

Faltar = to lack, to need

A mi me falta un lapiz.

A ti te falta una bicicleta.

Interesar = to be interested in

A los vegetaranos no les interesa la carne.

How to construct a sentence using verbo Gustar

no le gusta/gustan noun/infinitive

A vosotros/as no os gusta/gustan noun/infinitive

A ellos/a ellas/, a ustedes,/a los estudiantes, etc

no les gusta/gustan noun/infinitive

**Remember, use gusta if what is pleasing is a singular noun or an infinitive. Use gustan if what is pleasing is a plural noun. Two singular nouns will use gusta.
