DIED
SMITH---Died at his residence near Clay Fork, Cumberland county,
N. C. on the 28th of June 1878, Rev. Joab Smith in the 56th year
of his age. Bro. Smith was stricken with paralysis about a
month before he died and suffered much. He was anxious to live
that he might preach Christ to sinners, but was not afraid to
die. He left a wife and ten children, eight of them consistent
members of the church.

REPORT ON OBITUARIES
. we have to mourn the loss of two excellent members,
both ministers, viz: Elder Joab Smith and Elder B. F. Jessup.
We are sorry that your committee are not in possession of
any facts and incidents in the life of the former; but we
can say he was a worthy and good man, whose labors were accept
able as a servant of the Most High. He was loved and re
spected by all who knew him.
