Who are we and why are we here?

What are the AAUT, how do I apply, andwho helps?

Am I (or my team)

??2018??

The AAUT recognise qualitypractice and OUTSTANDINGcontributions to student learning

She tells me I must clearly focus on the ‘excellent’ features of my teaching practice, and how I make an outstanding

contribution to student learning

Describing aspects of my teaching which are “good teaching practice” (Ramsden, 1992)

would not be sufficient for a successful application

(Prior, 2010, pp. 3-4)

For an ALTC application, I need to make sure I

articulate both the unique and excellent aspects of how I contribute to student learning

(Henard & Ringuet, 2008, p. 4)

Lacks a clear definitionUnderstood differently by different stakeholders

Good teachers demonstrate “empathy”Excellent teachers “have passions: for learning, their field, for teaching and their students”

Student centered, focus on learning, addressing students’ personal needs, ensuring students understand whywhat they are doing is important

Practice supporting outstanding teachingEnaging learning clearly related to learning outcomesSetting clear expectations about all learning activitiesEmbedding and communicating cricial academic skills

Demonstrating teacher professional knowledge

Supporting student diversityProviding quality, frequent, useful feedback
