Sask Polytech & Aboriginal Learners • Last fall we rebranded from Saskatchewan Institute of Applied

Science and Technology (SIAST) to Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

• Saskatchewan Polytechnic: Provides a full span of professional credentials, including

degrees. Provides province-wide industry responsive and relevant

applied learning and research. Renewed our commitment to increasing the participation and

success of Aboriginal and other diverse learners.

Sask Polytech & Aboriginal Learners • In 2013-2014, we had 3,291 Aboriginal program

headcount enrolments comprising 18.5% of total enrolment. – One half of Aboriginal enrolments were in certificate, diploma

and degree programming.

• The graduate employment rate of our Aboriginal students has reached 90%. – Most recent 2012-2013 grad class had a 87% employment

rate.

Balanced Scorecard Starts With Strategy

Aboriginal Strategic Priorities • Aboriginal Student Achievement Plan has 21 recommendations.

• Strategic focus from 2014 to 2017 will be in the following areas:

Increase support for Aboriginal students.

Investigate identified physical/ environmental barriers to success.

Develop an Aboriginal Alumni network.

Collaborate with human resources to ensure a representative Aboriginal work force.

Aboriginal Balanced Scorecard • Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Aboriginal Strategy BSC was

developed in the summer of 2014.

• We are the first department to have the institutional scorecard cascaded to the unit level.

• Shows the commitment and priority given to our Aboriginal strategy and students.

Alignment with Institutional Scorecard Approaches to Objective & Measure Alignment

Identical: Relevant objectives and measures are identical to those on the parent strategy map and scorecard.

Contributory: Some objectives and measures are translated to articulate the contributions of the specific unit.

New: Unit develops new objectives/measures that do not necessarily link to the parent scorecard and are reflective of unit’s unique strategic priorities.
