Origin of Acupuncture

The earliest written record of acupuncture is the Chinese text Shiji in the 2nd century BCE.

By the year 1000 acupuncture spread from China to Japan, Korea, Vietnam and other places in East Asia.

Acupuncture gained attention in the United States after Richard Nixon visited China in 1972.

Theory

Meridians are energetic lay lines that are mapped throughout the human body. Their existence is proved boy the observation of the effect of various pressure points. These are recognized acupuncture pressure points.

The Meridian system can be thought of as an energetic distribution network.

In acupuncture, fine needles are inserted into the patients body in pre-selected acu-points. The effect of the needling is expected to cause changes in the pattern of the patients energy system.
