What is Active supervision?

Active Supervision is...
● ...a proactive approach used in school settings to monitor a large area in order to ensure safety & reduce problem behaviors from occurring

● by scanning and moving around the area while interacting with the students, staff support and reinforce appropriate behavior and correct inappropriate behavior

Benefits of recess
● Provides valuable learning opportunities● research shows taking short breaks appears
to help some students to focus in class● promotes social competence by allowing
opportunities to practice ○ new skills○ negotiate and problem-solve○ interact with a wider range of children

● less structured activities can raise stress levels/anxiety for students
● maybe unsafe or frightening for students who are bullied
