MalpracticeDefinitions:PYP/MYP/DPCheating Cheatingiswhenapersonmisleads,deceivesoractsdishonestlyonpurpose.Thiscan

happenthroughsituationsincludingbutnotlimitedto:

• Copying.• Communicatingtestanswerswithothers.• Plagiarism(offeringanotherperson’swork,wordsorideasasone’sown).• Tostealorpassoffasone’sowntheideaorwordsofanother.• Touseacreativeproductionwithoutcreditingthesource.

MYP/DPPlagiarism thisisdefinedastherepresentationoftheideasorworkofanotherpersonasthe

candidate’sownCollusion thisisdefinedassupportingmalpracticebyanothercandidate,asinallowingone’s

worktobecopiedorsubmittedforassessmentbyanotherDuplicationofwork thisisdefinedasthepresentationofthesameworkfordifferent

FabricationofsourcesIfacandidatemanufacturesdataforatable,surveyorothersuchrequirement,thiswillbeinterpretedasanattempttogainanunfairadvantageinanassessmentcomponent

UnreferencedTranslation copyingapassageoftext,translatingthispassageintoanother

language,thenusingthetranslatedtextintheirworkwithoutacknowledgingitssourcestillconstitutesplagiarism.

• Takingunauthorizedmaterialintoanexaminationroom(suchascell/mobilephone,writtennotes).

• Leavingand/oraccessingunauthorizedmaterialinabathroom/restroomthatmaybevisitedduringanexamination

• Misconductduringanexamination,includinganyattempttodisrupttheexaminationordistractanothercandidate

• Exchanginginformationorinanywaysupportingthepassingonofinformationtoanothercandidateaboutthecontentofanexamination

• Failingtocomplywiththeinstructionsoftheinvigilatororothermemberoftheschool’s

staffresponsiblefortheconductoftheexamination• Impersonatinganothercandidate• Stealingexaminationpapers• Usinganunauthorizedcalculatorduringanexamination,orusingacalculatorwhenoneis

notpermittedfortheexaminationpaper• Disclosingordiscussingthecontentofanexaminationpaperwithapersonoutsidethe

immediateschoolcommunitywithin24hoursaftertheexamination.• Takingunauthorizedmaterialsintoexaminations

(DiplomaProgrammeAcademicHonesty,pg5)LegitimatecollaborationvsCollusion Duringmandatedgroupwork,suchastheGroup4projectortheTOKpresentation,

collaborationisencouragedbetweenstudents.Duringtheseactivitiesstudentsareallowedtosharenotes,dataandotherdocumentsneededtocompletethetask.Teacherswillbeveryclearaboutwhentasksfallintothiscategory.

Atallothertimesstudentsareresponsibleforcollectingandusingtheirownnotes,data,resourcesandideas.Forexample:inGroup4,ifanexperimentiscarriedout,eachstudentisresponsiblefornotinghis/herownresults;inGroup3,althoughseveralstudentsmaystartwithasimilarresearchquestion,s/hemustthentaketheresearchinhis/herowndirection;ingroup5,anygroupworkmustnotendupintheportfoliosubmitted. ProceduresandConsequencesindealingwithMalpracticePYP/MYP/DPGeneralAnyworkthoughttobeplagiarizedorotherwisedemonstratingAcademicHonestlyMalpracticewillbehandedbacktothestudentandazerowillbeawardedtothestudent’sprofileforthatassessmenttask.Thepossibilityoftaskresubmissionforminorinfractionsisattheteacher’sdiscretion.Parentswillbecontactedandinformedofthesituationanditsconsequences.ThePrincipalandrelevantIBCoordinatorwillbenotifiedofallcasesofAcademicHonestyMalpractice.ThesewillbetrackedwhilestudentsareatISH,andifmultiplecasesofmalpracticeoccur,thenfurtherconsequenceswillbeenacted.MYPSpecificMalpracticeoccurringrelatingtothesubmissionoftheMYPPersonalProjectmaymeanthatthestudentisnoteligibletoreceivetheMYPcertificate.

DPSpecificIfmalpracticeoccursonataskthatisassessedinschool,theproceduresstatedabovewillapply.Furtherconsequenceswilloccurifthishasnotbeenthestudent’sfirsttimecommittingmalpractice.ThesefurtherconsequenceswillbesetatthediscretionoftheschoolHead,Principal,andCoordinator,butcouldincludesuspensionfromschool.IfmalpracticeisdiscoveredonataskthatistobesentforexternalassessmentthenIBGeneralregulationswillbefollowedinrelationtothemisconduct.TheseregulationscanbefoundinfullinGeneralregulations:DiplomaProgramme,relevantsectionsofwhicharereprintedbelow.MalpracticefoundrelatingtoanysubmissiontotheIBmaymeanthatthestudentisnoteligibletoreceivetheIBDiploma.ExtractsfromGeneralregulations:DiplomaProgramme(pp9,12–14)Article13AwardoftheIBDiploma13.2 TheIBDiplomawillbeawardedtoacandidateprovidedallthefollowingrequirements

havebeenmet. j.ThecandidatehasnotreceivedapenaltyforacademicmisconductfromtheFinalAward

Committee.Article20CandidatessuspectedofacademicmisconductTheIBOrganizationdefinesacademicmisconductasbehaviour(whetherdeliberateorinadvertent)thatresultsin,ormayresultin,thecandidateoranyothercandidategaininganunfairadvantageinoneormorecomponentsofassessment.Behaviourthatmaydisadvantageanothercandidateisalsoregardedasacademicmisconduct.Academicmisconductisabreachoftheseregulationsandincludes,butisnotrestrictedto,thefollowing:a.plagiarism—thisisdefinedastherepresentation,intentionallyorunintentionally,oftheideas,wordsorworkofanotherpersonwithoutproper,clearandexplicitacknowledgmentb.collusion—thisisdefinedassupportingacademicmisconductbyanothercandidate,forexample,allowingone’sworktobecopiedorsubmittedforassessmentbyanotherc.duplicationofwork—thisisdefinedasthepresentationofthesameworkfordifferentassessmentcomponentsand/orDPcorerequirementsd.misconductduringanIBexamination(forexample,takingunauthorizedmaterialintoanexamination,behaviourthatdisruptstheexaminationordistractsothercandidates,orcommunicatingwithanothercandidate)

e.anyotherbehaviourthatgainsanunfairadvantageforacandidateorthataffectstheresultsofanothercandidate(forexample,falsifyingaCASrecord,disclosureofinformationtoandreceiptofinformationfromcandidatesaboutthecontentofanexaminationpaperwithin24hoursafterawrittenexaminationviaanyformofcommunication/media)Article21:Investigatingcasesofsuspectedacademicmisconduct21.1 Ifquestionsariseabouttheauthenticityofacandidate’sworkbeforesubmissionforassessment,thesituationmustberesolvedwithintheschool.Ifpossibleacademicmisconduct(forexample,plagiarism,collusion)isidentifiedafteracandidate’sworkhasbeensubmittedtotheIBOrganizationforassessment,theschool’sDPcoordinatormustinformtheIBOrganizationassoonaspossible.Forworkthatisinternallyassessed,“submission”referstothedeadlinebywhichteachers’marksmustbesubmittedtotheIBOrganization.Forworkthatisexternallyassessed,otherthanthescriptsfromthewrittenexaminations,“submission”referstothecandidatesigningthedeclarationofauthenticityfortheirwork.21.2 Whenaschool,anexaminerortheIBOrganizationestablishesevidencetosuspectacademicmisconductbyacandidate,theschoolwillberequiredtoconductaninvestigationandprovidetheIBOrganizationwithstatementsandotherrelevantdocumentationconcerningthecase.Ifaschoolfailstosupporttheinvestigationintopossibleacademicmisconduct,nogradewillbeawardedtothecandidateinthesubject(s)concerned.21.3 IftheIBOrganizationnotifiesaschoolthatacandidateissuspectedofacademicmisconductandthattheIBOrganizationhastheintentionofinitiatinganinvestigation,atthediscretionoftheheadofschoolitispermissibleforthecandidatetobewithdrawnfromthesessionorfromthesubject(s)inwhichacademicmisconductmayhaveoccurred.However,atthediscretionoftheIBOrganizationtheinvestigationintothesuspectedacademicmisconductbythecandidatemaystillproceedandadecisionbereachedonwhethertoupholdordismissacademicmisconduct.Ifacandidateiswithdrawnfromasubjectnomarkforthatsubjectmaycontributetotheawardofagradeinafutureexaminationsession.21.4 Candidatessuspectedofacademicmisconductmustbeinvited,throughtheschool’sDPcoordinator,topresentawrittenstatementthataddressesthesuspicionofacademicmisconduct.Ifacandidatedeclinestopresentastatement,theinvestigationanddecisiononwhetherthecandidateisinbreachofregulationswillstillproceed.21.5 Themajorityofcasesofsuspectedacademicmisconductwillbepresentedtoasub-committeeoftheFinalAwardCommittee.Thesub-committeewillnormallycompriseIBOrganizationstaff,schoolrepresentatives,andchief/deputychiefexaminers,butanygrouporcombinationofthesepersonsmaymakedecisionsoncasessubjecttotheapprovaloftheFinalAwardCommittee.Thesub-committeewillbechairedbythechairorvice-chairoftheFinalAwardCommittee,orachiefexaminernominatedbythevice-chair.21.6 Decisionsofthesub-committeearemadeonbehalfofandunderthesupervisionoftheFinalAwardCommittee.Afterreviewingallstatementsandevidencecollectedduringtheinvestigation,thesub-committeewilldecidewhethertodismissthesuspicionofacademicmisconduct,upholdit,oraskforfurtherinvestigationstobemade.Ifthesub-committeeisunabletoreachadecisionthenthecasewillbereferredtotheFinalAwardCommittee.

21.7 Ifthesub-committeedecidesthatacaseofacademicmisconducthasbeenestablished,apenaltywillbeappliedinthesubject(s)concerned.Thepenaltywill,inthejudgmentofthesub-committee,becommensuratewiththeseverityofthemisconduct.IfacaseofacademicmisconductisconsideredbytheFinalAwardCommitteetobeveryserious,theFinalAwardCommitteemaydecidenottoissueagradeforacandidateinthesubject(s)concernedandadditionallyprohibitthecandidatefrombeingregisteredinanyfutureexaminationsessions.21.8 Ifnogradeisissuedforasubjectthatcontributestoacandidate’sIBDiploma,noIBDiplomawillbeawardedtothecandidate.DPCourseResultswillbeawardedforothersubjectsinwhichnoacademicmisconducthasoccurred.Exceptincasesofseriousorrepeatmisconduct,thecandidatewillbepermittedtoregisterforfutureexaminationsessions,whichmayincludethesessionthatfollowssixmonthslater,iftherelevantregistrationdeadlinesaremet.InthecaseofanIBDiplomaCandidate,ifthesessioninwhichtheacademicmisconducthasbeenestablishedisthecandidate’sthirdexaminationsessiontowardsachievingtheawardoftheIBDiploma,nofurtherIBexaminationsessionswillbepermitted.21.9 Ifthecandidatehasalreadybeenfoundinbreachofregulationsinanyprevioussession,thiswillnormallyleadtodisqualificationfromparticipationinanyfutureexaminationsession.21.10 Ifthereissubstantiveevidence,theIBOrganizationisentitledtoconductaninvestigationintoacademicmisconductafteracandidate’sresultshavebeenissued.IfacademicmisconductissubsequentlyestablishedbytheFinalAwardCommittee,oritssub-committee,thecandidate’sgradeforthesubject(s)concernedmaybewithdrawnfromthecandidatewhichwillalsoresultinthewithdrawaloftheirIBDiplomawhereapplicable.
