Objectives of the Study

to define the service design (SD) process and to determine

in which phases innovative methods could be used

Interviews with designers + Info-cards first version

+ Literature review

=

design of new cards

Methods

Phases in the design process (Moritz’s 2005)

Understanding Thinking Generating Filtering Explaining Realizing

WHEN ?

Certain methods can be used (adapted) in certain phases.

There are certain methods that are ideal for certain phases

Designers refer to the phases in different way as presented in Moritz's model

Vocabulary

In the analysis of the current state

In solving current problems In evaluating

In framing existing problems In co-creation

In developing the process In prototyping

In data collection In conceptualization

At the final stage

In mapping of needs

Discussion

Vaiheiden nimeäminen on subjektiivista

The info-cards are our own way of making a synthesis and navigating in the wide range of

methods implemented in our field. (Miettinen 2010, edited description Ahvenainen & Lipp 2011)

Vaiheiden nimeäminen on subjektiivista

Mapping methods give the opportunity to understand them as a whole.

Using info-cards we map methods in a flexible way. (model Ahvenainen 2011, drawing Ahvenainen & Lipp 2011)

Vaiheiden nimeäminen on subjektiivista

The cards help shared understanding in the design process inclunding non-designers in the discussion.

Info-cards are good tangible artifacts to communicate on methods.

Vaiheiden nimeäminen on subjektiivista

Visual representation of the info-cards help to communicate with business people and in this way

be a facilitator in design processes. (model Ahvenainen 2011, drawing Ahvenainen & Lipp 2011)

Vaiheiden nimeäminen on subjektiivista

Info-cards can motivate designers to try out new methods.
