Sako was born in 1921. Our original Finnish name was Suojeluskuntain Ase-ja Konepaja Osakeyhtiö. (Firearms and Machine Workshop of the Civil Guard). The company was established to make and main-tain the firearms that were used Finland´s newborn Civil Guard. Finland had achieved independence in 1917 and the volunteer Civil Guard had an important role in maintaining defense readiness for the young nation. However, their firearms were mostly old military rifles, needing repair, rebarreling, and service. Soon, the facilities in Helsinki, Finland´s capital, proved to be too small, and Sako was relocated to the small town of Riihimäki, about 75 km (46 miles) north of Helsinki in 1927.
Besides military rifles, competition and hunting rifles were designed. While prototypes of sporting rifles were already being designed and made in 1930, actual small caliber hunting rifles designed and made
in Riihimäki emerged during World War II. The L-42 was born and further developed to the L46 after the war. This small game centerfire rifle became a global success. Sako was tested by several publications and found to have the best production rifle “right out of the box.” Soon Sako developed larger bolt action sporters. The L579 “Forrester,” L61R “Finnbear,” and VL 63 lever action “Finnwolf” were added to the “flock” of fine Sako hunting rifles.
In 1993, professional rifle designers decided to develop a dream rifle for devoted riflemen. For years, our designers, metallurgists, and product engineers worked to develop, test and shoot the new rifle that evolved into the Sako 75. The year of its introduction marked Sako’s 75th anniversary. Eventually, a full line of five different action sizes, with detachable magazines, an ergonomical stock, and various models emerged. Calibers ranged from .222 Rem all the way up to .416 Rem. Mag. On top of the 75 models was the 80th Anniversary Safari rifle, made in .375 Holland &Holland caliber.
90 Years of Accuracy
Sako TodaySako has come a long way since our humble beginning. Today, our design department is fully computerized and all steel parts are manufactured using the latest state-of-the-art CNC machining. Some things however, have not changed: we inspect barrels by human eye, and we shoot every rifle manually with proof rounds for functionality and for accuracy. All of our rifles comply with C.I.P & SAAMI requirements.
At the turn of the Millenium, Sako became an honored member of the Beretta Group. This gave Sako resources for even better product development and market response.
The Sako 85 model was developed using the vast experience gained modernizing the bolt action rifle. Further, the A7 was developed to give hunters the opportunity to purchase an entry level, first class Sako rifle. We also developed the Sako Quad, the world´s first rimfire bolt action rifle, with interchangeable barrels in four different rimfire calibers, for small game hunters and varminters.
In the military and law-enforcement world, Sako Ltd. has become a respected rifle manufacturer. Our TRG 22/42 and Tikka TAC are in active service duty around the world. Tikka rifles are made by Sako Ltd. in Finland and have many hunting friends as well.
Today our line of Sako 85 rifles is adding an important sixth action size. Beginning with our Safari 90 Year Anniversary rifles, we will offer a .450 Rigby caliber. Accuracy, reliability and performance in honest working rifles are our product principles—all valuable tools for real hunters!

CERTIFICATION OF PROOF TEST AND ACCURACY
Each rifle manufactured by SAKO Ltd. is proof fired with two high pressure
cartridges and inspected for safety according to C.I.P. regulations.
After the proof testing this rifle has been test shot using SAKO Ltd. manufactured
ammunition in order to verify rifle’s accuracy and 100% functioning. Upon leaving
the factory SAKO Ltd. guarantees this rifle to have minimum performance of
1 M.O.A. or better at 100 meters with 5 cartridges.
Lion head figure below is the inspection mark of Finnish national proof house for
firearms. This mark verifies that the firearm has been tested according to
C.I.P. regulations and is sa
fe to use.
In Finland the proof testing is controlled and supervised by
the National Police Board, Firearms Inspection Department.

Extractor & Ejection
Sako 85 actions are available in six different sizes (CSA), providing the very
best functions for each cartridge size. All Sako 85 models feature controlled
cartridge feed (RCS) to virtually eliminate double feeding or cartridge jam.
The natural hand position of the Sako turnbolt handle allows for very quick
repeated firing.
The pull weight of the single-stage
Sako 85 trigger unit is adjustable
from 2 – 4 lbs. An optional single-set
trigger is also available for most Sako
85 models. The trigger on the Sako
85 rifles is protected by an extremely
durable, steel trigger guard.
The special 2-way Sako safety locks
both the trigger and the bolt handle. A
unique bolt release button on the Sako
Safety System allows you to load or
remove a cartridge from the chamber
with the safety engaged.
The staggered, two-row magazine
of the Sako 85 has a stainless steel
construction. The detachable magazine
can also be loaded through the ejection
port. The Sako 85’s Total Control
Latch (patent pending) prevents
accidental magazine releases.
Most of the Sako 85 models with a blued barrel finish are offered
with optional adjustable iron sights. The front bead is adjustable in
elevation and the rear blade in windage.
All Sako 85 models have free-floating barrels manufactured by Sako
specialists. Barrel blanks are drilled, honed, cold-hammer forged and finished,
and finally individually inspected by a complex, highly refined, optical
fine-tuning instrument: the human eye. Twist rate is chosen for each caliber
to optimize accuracy and bullet performance. The Sako 85 barrels, blued or
stainless, have a non-reflecting, satin-like surface except the Sako 85 Deluxe
model that comes with highly polished metal parts. The Sako 85 stainless
steel barrels are made from stainless steel with increased chromium content for
better weather resistance and durability.
The ergonomics of the Sako 85 Walnut stock have been
optimized to guarantee the best shooting posture. The
excellent balance and smooth bolt operation of Sako rifles
make for phenomenal straight, accurate, fast shooting.
We value our customers. To be absolutely sure of the
performance of all Sako rifles, we test each individual rifle.
We do not guess or believe, we test. Every rifle is delivered
with a certification of proof test and accuracy.
Sako rifles feature our famous extractor claw made
of a very durable, heat-treated special steel. When the
bolt brings the case back, it is ejected out of the rifle
by the active mechanical ejector fork. The ejector is in
the rear bridge bottom, not in the bolt face.
Sako 85 rifles share demanding design principles, adhering to both tradition and innovation, allowing riflemen to choose a model to perfectly fit different preferences and needs. The Sako 85 range offers different stock styles and barrel options combined with a comprehensive caliber selection. When you buy a Sako, you get a thoroughly tested quality rifle. Each rifle is shot at the factory to make sure it shoots as a Sako should.

The Sako name on the pistol grip end plate has become a symbol
of all the things preferred by rifle hunters the world over. Sako
accuracy, reliability and ergonomics are familiar to those who use
the famous rifles made in Riihimäki, Finland. But quality does not
just happen, it has to be designed and made. For generations, most of
our designers and craftsmen have been both hunters and competitive
shooters. Their experience is reflected in our rifles.
ClassicThe Sako 85 Classic model continues to offer traditional Sako features: the straight and
classic walnut stock, with rosewood fore-end tip and pistol grip cap, is oil finished; a strong,
extended recoil lug screwed on the fore-end; an integral tapered scope mount rail on the top
of the receiver; and a totally free-floating barrel. This classical look and feel enhances the
experience of owning one of the world’s most respected rifles.

Perfect shot For me, firearms and hunting are the essence of tradition and
masculine values. The aspects of a firearm that I admire most
are its technical excellence and degree of refinement. The full-
stocked Central European styling of the Bavarian is a delight
to behold. This firearm combines accuracy and reliability,
with an added special feature: the single set trigger, which
brings a whole new feel to firing. I can just picture myself
moving through the silent forest and spotting a deer – even
at a distance – setting the trigger and making the shot in full
confidence, knowing that the end result has been achieved.
The perfect shot.
In Middle Europe, especially in Alpine areas,
the rifle hunting tradition differs from Nordic
hunting. The Bavarian complies with Middle
European traditions: Single set trigger system,
adjustable iron sights, Bavarian style cheek
piece, curved “Hogs back” comb, asymmetric
palm swell pistol grip and “Schnabel” fore-end.
Materials: Special blued steel, selected walnut.
The Bavarian is available in action sizes:
XS, S, SM, M, L.
BavarianThe Sako 85 Bavarian is a masterpiece combining high-grade walnut stock and traditional
European style with the superior performance and technology of the Sako 85 series. Under
its stylish exterior design are new modern features and attention to detail, which enhance the
experience of owning and shooting one of the world’s most popular and respected rifles.
The oil-finished walnut stock also
features a Schnabel-type fore-end and
pistol grip endplate in rosewood.
Bavarian stock design
The classic checkering pattern of the Sako
85 Bavarian provides functionality and
traditional looks. Other characteristics of
this classic model are the Bavarian cheek
piece and comb.

A hunter’s world I am a hunter. I have been for a long time. I have
hunted with great teams, good friends and in so many
interesting, magnificent places all over the world. The
one constant in all these outstanding experiences is
my most important companion: my rifle. It’s a Sako –
always has been and always will be. To me, Sako firearms
have always meant exceptional quality, fine lines and
tradition. These features are what I look for in a top
flight firearm. They provide the right feel and give the
rifle credibility, whether hunting big game in Africa or
with my own hunting crew at home. While out on the
hunt, we are an inseparable pair – my rifle and me.

The Sako 85 Kodiak is designed with a true hunter in mind. The straight, weatherproof stock is made of
grey laminated hardwood and reinforced with two cross-bolts. The short, free-floating, semi-heavy barrel
features adjustable open sights and a band type front swivel. All metal parts are made of stainless steel
or are specially coated to ensure excellent wear and corrosion resistance.
Kodiak
The Sako 85 Grey Wolf has a high-grade stainless steel barrel, receiver and bolt. The grey, matte-
lacquered laminated hardwood stock provides a stable platform to hold up in the toughest
conditions. With its grey streamlined stock and stainless hardware, the Sako 85 Grey Wolf is well
matched with a silver grey scope and scope mounts to form one of the best-looking hunting rifle
ensembles in the world.
Grey Wolf
In a modern lightAs a woman, I can appreciate hunting and shooting in a
modern light, fully accepting new materials, form factors
and solutions – even in firearms. This is the reason I chose
for my own firearm the Finnlight, whose stock is made of
a synthetic material, thus making it lighter to bear. It is a
state-of-the-art rifle that pleases my eye and its light weight
makes it the perfect choice for long hunting trips and treks.
The new technology also makes it more weather-resistant - it
is not so sensitive to changes in conditions. This suits me just
fine, because I love the rain and even when things get a bit
tougher. A great life for an outdoorsperson in good company.
The Sako 85 Finnlight is for those who go deeper into the wild for their enjoyment. On mountain
trails, trekked heights and long distance walks, some hunters prefer high performance, full size
rifles that are light in weight. The fluted barrel of the Finnlight is just one of the many features
that make it ideal for the hunter seeking a light rifle that’s perfectly trimmed. The Sako 85
Finnlight is also an excellent choice for women and younger shooters.

Varmint StainlessThe Sako 85 Varmint Laminated Stainless comes with all the same qualities as the
Varmint, but with its stainless metal parts and stable laminate stock it is perfect in
rough conditions. The fluted barrel accelerates barrel cooling and furthermore, gives
this beautiful rifle an extra dose of good looks.
The pronounced pistol
grip means better hand
position and precision.
Pistol grip
Varmint rifles feature a stable platform for precise shooting at
small targets, generally with the help of large scope sights and
a rest under the weapon. That is why our Varmint rifles boast
heavy barrels, a single-set trigger, a pronounced pistol grip,
and a flat fore-end bottom.
The A7 was created to offer a lightweight, genuine Sako rifle at an attractive price. The A7 has unique
features that are not available on any other Sako or Tikka rifles: the special steel action is made in two
sizes, S and M, to comply with available calibers; the receiver is drilled and tapped for bases; the bolt
has three locking lugs in front and a 70-degree angle for fast cycling, and an internal black nitrated
steel insert for extra durability; the polymer magazines (developed for each type of cartridge) have
integral steel collars that allow loading without removing the magazine.
Precision tool As someone who has hunted a lot, I’ve noticed that when
sureness and reliability are really put to the test, you have to
find the right tool to get the job done. You need a rifle that
is more a tool than recreational equipment. In this case my
precision tool of choice is, without a doubt, the Sako A7. For me,
it is just the right kind of firearm, with just the right features
I’m looking for. I’m outdoors and I hunt a great deal near my
home, in local forests and on familiar terrain, sometimes in
extremely demanding conditions. That’s when I bring my A7,
whose nature and slightly unconventional design distinguishes
me, making me fully trust the rifle I carry.

Owners of Sako hunting rifles enjoy the unique advantages of the Sako Optilock™ scope mounts. Optilock™ mounts require you to only set your sights once. Even if you need to remove the scope and mounts, you won’t need to zero it again. The Sako Optilock™ gives you a twofold benefit by offering better performance and ease of use. The Optilock™ mount bases are machined from a solid block of special steel alloy. The front bases have a solid angled left side and a similarly angled right side with a clamping device. This base design combined with Sako rifles’ integral dovetail rail allows you to adjust the horizontal position of the scope without touching the adjustments. The rear base matches the form of the rear dovetail, so that the rifle and base match perfectly. The limiter pin fits the integrated slot in the rear bridge of your Sako rifle.
With the Sako Optilock Quickmount, scope mounting is even more practical. Adjust-able levers make removal and remounting of Optilock Quickmount precise and easy.
Sako Optilock Quickmount allows you to remove the scope in seconds, leaving no distracting base components on the action. To remount, just push the unit back to the dovetail rails of your Sako, tighten the levers and you are all set! The scope is as perfectly zeroed-in as before.
Integral tapered dovetail rails and limiter pin slots on Sako rifles together with Optilock scope mounts provide precise and reliable mounting.

The rear base has limiter pin that defines correct positioning
2) Sako rear base in stainless steel.
Sako Optilock rings come in 4 heights, and 2 diameters, black, stainless or phosphatized. 34 mm rings do not have polymer insert.
Sako Optilock bases and rings are packed sepa-rately. This helps the buyer and dealer to choose the right combination for each scope/action size. Rifle scope should be in correct position on the rifle, at proper height and eye relief. 1) Sako Optilok
