6. How should I write the rest of my resume?Ask yourself the following questions,

What is most important to emphasize for the job I am applying for? Is it my skills, my education, or my work experience?

The chronological re-sume

• Most recent jobs/education come first

• Bullet points indicating what each job/experience involved (use action verbs)

• Use this style if you have lots of relevant work expe-rience

• THIS IS THE KIND OF RE-SUME YOU SHOULD ALL AIM FOR, so you have to be proactive and seek out in-ternships, and other experi-ences that are relevant to the future job you want to do.

The ‘transferable’ skills resume

• Emphasizes skills & accom-plishments

• Use this style if you have lit-tle or no work experience

• Perhaps freshman, and sophomores who are applying for internships, will have this kind of resume.

Whichever style you write, the basic principle is the same:

You must match your skills, experience and knowledge with the skills being sought by the recruiter.

• Internship(s) – This kind of experience is fantastic

- make sure you use this to really sell yourself- what exactly were your duties/projects/achievements? - what did the position involve?

• Part-time job(s)

- as an academy piano or math teacher, for example- as a private tutor - as a shop assistant in a convenience store

• Other ‘non-university’ clubs (e.g. tennis club captain)

• Military service - perhaps you had a position of responsibility- squad leader?

• English camps (as student or teaching assistant)

• High school achievements

• Special qualifications- TEOFL- Advanced computer licenses/skills
