Sunday Distribution of Communion Outside Mass
THE SOLEMNITY OF PENTECOST
MAY 20, 2020 YEAR A
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It has been seven weeks since Easter. We come to the conclusion of another segment of our liturgical year with the celebration Pentecost. The coming of the Spirit changed the Apostles and saw the launching of the new community (Church) At Pentecost the Church earnestly began its mission to the whole world. This mission centers on preaching about the saving name of Jesus and about the wonders of God. God’s greatest wonder is that, through the suffer-ing and death of Jesus the Messiah, people are saved from the consequences of their sins: alienation from God. The feast of Pentecost celebrates a promise realized. It acknowledges that the Holy Spirit is at the heart of the Church’s life. Because that is so, the Church cannot ulti-mately fail in its task of witnessing to Jesus’ death and resurrection. It will eventually succeed in communicating the message of God’s salvation to everyone in the world.
The sacrament of confirmation, which celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives and is the sealing of the graces, given in baptism, is our personal Pentecost experience when we are transformed into witnesses to the teaching and example of Jesus and his Church. We willingly take on the responsibility to share our Catholic faith with others.
The Feast of Pentecost is a wonderful celebration of the missionary Church. Let us reflect on our mission-ary efforts in our homes, schools and workplaces. How are we willing to demonstrate that we are serious about our confirmation (Pentecost) responsibilities? In what ways do we explain the authentic teaching of the Church? How do we experience Pentecost as a prom-ise realized in our lives, leading us to make the urgen-cy of the gospel message of salvation a reality for eve-ryone we meet?
Fr John C Katamba
Thoughts to Ponder
Guidelines for the distribution of Holy Communion are listed below, and also available on our website.
From the guidelines received from our diocese: It is important to remember that no Catholic is required to attend Mass or to receive Holy Communion during the pandemic. Those age 65 or above and those with compromised immunity are encouraged to stay home. In Christian Charity, anyone with a fever, cough or flu like symptoms should remain at home so as to prevent further spread of the illness.
For those wishing to receive Holy Communion: Communicants who are able are strongly encouraged to participate spiritually at Mass by means of television, online, or radio before coming to our parish from 10-11am for Communion Service. Those who are unable to do so are encouraged to read the Scripture readings of the day or pray a rosary or in some other way in prepara-tion to receive Holy Communion. You are asked to enter only by door 11, the door by the carport. All are strongly encouraged to wear a protective mask. Your temperature will be taken to ensure that you do not have a fever. You will be queued in a group of 8; the floor will be marked to maintain social distancing. Hospitality will advise you when to enter church. Your group of 8 will proceed straight across the front of church, each person to a marked location.
Father will lead the prayer, distribute Communion to all, lead a short closing prayer, and then, as a group, you will exit by the bell tower door.
We are happy to welcome you back to the parish in this limited but powerful way. See you soon
