Preface

Thank you for your interest in Counselor Preparation in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania

Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (PACES) has prepared this second edition of the

directory to identify those colleges and universities in the state that prepare masters level Counselors

eligible for licensure in the state as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC). This information is

designed to promote counselor preparation in Pennsylvania and to aid students, faculty, and other

interested parties with questions about the preparation of LPCs in the state. Every effort was made to

verify that the information in this directory is accurate. Several institutions in the state do not have

detailed information about their programs in this directory so consequently, readers will need to contact

those institutions to learn more about their programs. Regardless, readers are encouraged to contact the

representatives of the institutions to find out more details about the respective programs than are

included in this directory.

Directory Format

The format of this directory includes data to assist individuals in learning more about the

Counselor Preparation Programs in Pennsylvania that prepare graduate students for licensure as a

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania. Institutions are arranged in alphabetical order

for the reader’s convenience. Data on each institution begins with the contact information for the

institution and a faculty member who can serve as a resource and provide more information about the

program.

Program information follows that identifies professional accreditation and program emphasis.

The Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) is the

national accrediting body of graduate counseling programs. The Pennsylvania Department of Education

(PDE) accredits Pennsylvania School Counseling Programs. The Masters in Psychology and

Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) is the national accrediting body of masters level

psychology training programs. The Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) is the national

accrediting body of graduate rehabilitation counseling training programs. The program emphasis, and in

some instances multiple emphases, are identified so that readers may see specific areas of education and

training within each institution leading to LPC licensure. The program emphasis of Counselor

Education includes the specialty areas of Community Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling,

College Counseling, Marriage & Family, and School Counseling. The program emphasis of Creative

Arts includes the specialty areas of Music Therapy, Art Therapy, and Dance/ Movement Therapy.

earlier, and the total credits required for the degrees and postgraduate certificates.

Masters in Psychology Practice Exam of Psychological Knowledge (NAMP), Art Therapy Credentialing

Board (ATCB) Certification Exam, Advanced Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Counselor Examination

(AAODA) given by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug

Abuse Inc., and the Examination for Masters Addictions Counselors (EMAC).

Finally, professional counseling affiliations of the faculty in each counselor preparation program
