Peter and Michelle Barley knewthey had discovered a perfectspot for their first home as amarried couple when theyinspected a street-front dwellingin a quiet and leafy street inNollamara.

But, after discovering theblock was subdivided, theydecided building a new home atthe rear had more potential.

“We thought it was a goodlittle spot and we loved the parkacross the road,” Mr Barleysaid.

The Barleys also liked the factthat opting for the rear spotmeant they could have their owndriveway

With the help of his father-in-law, Mr Barley and the team atStudio 8 Builders and Designersplanned a spacious three-bedroom and two-bathroom unitwith ducted air-conditioningthroughout.

“Studio 8 made it really easyfor us,” he said.

“We had four or five differentdesigns because we wanted tomaximise the space we could forthis home.”

A spacious open-plan livingarea, featuring the kitchen, themeals area and the living room,is certainly the centrepoint ofthe home.

The idea of an enclave in onewall of the living room wasabandoned to create a largerlinen cupboard next to thebathroom.
