Recipe for SuccessClassroom Ideology

• The classroom should be an inclusive environment where all children feel accepted & valued for who they are.

• Children should be taught wholly – socially, emotionally, and academically.

• Learn responsibility by accurately copying their homework each day.

• Bringing home their homework notebook, folder, and any materials needed for homework.

• Returning all materials and completed homework the next day.

• First Offense: warning

• Second Offense: yellow slip & card change

• Third Offense: another reason added to slip & card change

• Fourth Offense: another reason added to slip & card change

• Fifth Offense: lose card & conduct referral

• Serious offense: see principal & conduct referral

4 Yellow Slips in a 9 week period = 1 conduct referral

3 conduct referrals in a 9 week period = 1 morning detention 7:15AM-8:00AM

5 morning detentions in a 9 week period = 1 Saturday detention 8:00AM-11:30AM

Brownie PointsConsequences for Good Behavior

Students will receive a sticker for each day they do not flip their card

If the student does not change their card all week, they will receive a prize

Brownies are added to the pan when the class works well together, is outstanding for a substitute, cooperates during a school drill, etc. When the pan is full, the students will be rewarded with a special treat!

• Progress Reports are sent home at the middle of the grading period.

• The grading scale also applies to conduct.

• Assigned Monday-Thursday• Should take about an hour or less to complete• Counts towards participation grade

• Two participation grade points are lost if homework is not completed

• Homework and classwork that is NOT done neatly or complete will be sent home to be finished

Spelling: most nights students will have one worksheet or written assignment.

Sweet IngredientsStudying is a Habit

• If possible, please designate a quiet place for your child to study and to do homework.

• Children should be encouraged to study a little every night.

• Students who study for every test tend to be more successful because they have established good study habits.

Monday: P.E. 10:50-11:30 Spanish 1:40-2:10

Tuesday: Science Lab 12:00-12:45 Music 1:40-2:20

Wednesday: Art 10:00-10:40

Thursday: P.E. 10:50-11:30 Computer 2:25-3:05

Friday: Library 11:40-12:20

Chocolate Chips & Sprinkles

• Absences – please email me or call & leave a message with the front office (504.733.0472). Your child’s assignments will be brought to the front office after 2:30PM. If requested, I will send work home with a sibling or friend.

• Birthdays – Send birthday treats in the morning. We will eat them at SNACK recess. Feel free to send any type of snack. Please send all cakes pre-cut, napkins, plates, etc. if needed. Thanks!

Reading is Sweet• Reminders – covering workbooks is OPTIONAL this

year. However, I would highly recommend covering the Superkids workbook as it is routinely brought home and likely to tear. CLEAR CONTACT PAPER ONLY!

• Library Books – please return library books every FRIDAY!

• Book Orders – Scholastic Book orders are sent home monthly. Please try to order online using our class code: MQHL6. However, if you decide to send a check, please make it payable to Scholastic & make sure to send the book order!

OreoClass Mascot

• The students in my class each get to take Oreo home for one week, Monday -Thursday, during the school year.

• On Monday, Oreo is sent home with the child. The children are to record their time spent with Oreo in her journal. They may take photos with her& paste them into the journal or draw pictures of activities!

• On Friday, the students will return Oreo and her care package as well as share their journal entry and/or pictures with the class.

Volunteers are a Real Treat!Room Parents:

We need assistance during:• Computer Lab: Thursdays 2:25-3:05• Snack Attack: some Fridays 9:00AM – 9:30AM • Fall Play – Costumes, choreography, dressing

the students
