the revised edition is of 30 unn um bered and signed by Allix. Fine. $150.00
A-Z Old Fashioned Rhymes is an alphabet book made for children, perhaps with adultsin mind . In 1985 a few copies were made, and then the lino-cuts w ere put aw ay and for-
gotten. Now more copies have been printed and the book re-issued. Last copy.

17. (Laura Davidson) Florence. Artists tunnel book by Laura Davidson.
[Boston. MA] 4.75" x 6.75". The images were painted on Muirheads Blue
Guides and Baedeker s travel guide p ages published in the 1920s. Images
were painted directly on guidebook pages, then offset printed an d bou nd
by hand. An edition of 500 signed copies. Fine. $35.00This charming tunnel book shows a view of the city of Florence from the steps of
the church of San Miniato al Monte. It is the first in a series of books that incorpo-
rates old travel guidebooks and m aps. Tunnel books date back to early peep showboxes from the 1600s. They held cutout cardboard panels to create many religious,
historical and mythical scenes. Davidson w rites that she chose this format to repro-
du ce an effect of real distance and space. "I have been buying old travel guidebooks
abou t Italy since I first visited there nea rly 20 years ago . In these books I have foun d
hand written itineraries, postage stamps, ticket stubs and restaurant receipts. They
represent the desire to travel, and the love that I have for Italian art, architect and
culture." - Davidson.

Davidson states: "At first glance, Bostons Fort Point is a gritty, urban
industrial neighborhood. Its inhabitants are m ainly artists who u se the loft
spaces for stud ios and postal workers w ho park here. There is a tiny new
park but, until recently, the only grass has been temp orary art installa-
tions of sod on bridges and benches. ... The pages of this book show
recent sightings, both common and unu sual.

are printed with polymer-plates, woodblock (No. 1), linocut (No. 4). Box - 13.5" x 10". All texts are handset with the
Bauer Bodoni. Each of the six volumes has its own size and all fit in a gray cardboard box, with title in relief on lid.
One of 50 sets, num bered and signed by Malutzki. Fine. $1100.00
No. 1: schwarz. 40p. 6.25" x 6.25". Printed black onto black kraftpaper, with black card boards with title and wood
engraving.
Text passage from Konrad Bayers Der Kopf d es Vitus Bering d ealing w ith the qu estion 'w here is the w orld (our
planet) situated. A wood engraving from the 19th centur y (showing a roun d p iece of an old machine) is printed on
every page, rotated by 30 degrees from p age to page. So the tool becomes a rotating p lanet. It is orbited by the typog-
raph y in opp osite direction.

"Poetry goes through the ear. In these translations of selected poems by Rainer Maria Rilke, both sound and flow, no less than fideli-ty to the sense of the original German, is a central focus. Fifteen of the p oems are d rawn from the Sonnets to Orpheu s, written toward
the end of Rilkes lifework. Accompan ying them is the narra tive poem Orpheu s, Eurydice, Hermes from an earlier life period. The
sonnets and narrative connect in spirit with one another, affording greater illumination an d depth of feeling to each.
The connection between sonnet and narrative is further enhan ced by the books ph ysical format and imagery. Below is the da rk wine-

Linda Hoffmans mother started her academic career late in life;she taught at several universities, advancing her positions con-
stantly until her became th e Dean of the Gradu ate School of Arts
and Science at New York Univer sity. Here she h eld the David B.
Kriser Distinguished Professorship in Anthropology from 1984
until her d eath in 1997. Her pu blications were m any, as were h er
honors, including receiving the American Anthropological
Associations distinguished Service Award.
Not only are the images v ery beautiful, but the text is simple and
straightforward, moving as only good prose or poetry can be, in
this wonderful journey of tribute to an outstanding woman and
scholar - Hoffmans mother.
