Thank you Conference
Sponsors
From the Executive Director, Tim Griffin
It has been a busy quarter of events at ETEBA. We sponsored and attended the most
recent House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus meeting and the TN Safety Fest , conducted
several successful member meetings with visits from the DOE EM program, NNSA, CNS
Y-12, LANL, and U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 3rd congressional district Chuck
Fleischmann. We have also been actively planning our upcoming Business Opportunities
Conference to be held from December 8-10, 2015. Please watch the ETEBA events
calendar and meeting notices for details about the upcoming Business Opportunities
Conference and any upcoming monthly member meetings as they become available.
As your new Executive Director I’m very excited to have joined ETEBA at the end of
September and to be located here in Tennessee where I am able to support such a great
community of businesses. Many of you know me from my years in Oak Ridge with Golder
Associates, during which time I served on both the Board of Directors and the Government
Relations Committee for ETEBA. I transferred to North Carolina eight years ago but
continued to attend the Business Opportunities Conference for the exceptional networking
and business development opportunities. I have always been a strong supporter of ETEBA
because I understand the benefits it brings to its members in an ever changing and
evolving marketplace, and I’m looking forward to working with the membership to provide
the services ETEBA is noted for, and to find ways we can bring added value to those
services.
That being said, I’m stepping into some pretty big shoes. Sherry Peske, who has served as
our Executive Director during the past five years, has provided exceptional leadership for
ETEBA during some challenging times in the business community, and she will be missed.
Sherry’s presence in Washington and her understanding of the political environment that
impacts our business community has been invaluable, and we hope she will continue to
serve ETEBA as our Washington consultant, monitoring developments in the political
arena and providing support to us as we implement our new structure. We extend our
heartfelt appreciation to Sherry, and wish her and her family the very best as they open a
new chapter in their lives.
The ETEBA Business Opportunities Conference Organizing Committee, led by Jenny
Freeman of Strata-G, is working diligently on the program for the ETEBA 16th annual
conference which will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center December 8th – 10th.
Our full conference Prospectus is available on the ETEBA website, along with a detailed
overview of our upcoming keynote and session panelists. On-line, registration for
sponsorships, exhibits and attendance is also open. With limited exhibit space still available
time is running out quickly to seize this excellent marketing opportunity. Current sponsors
and exhibitors include Y-12, ORNL, UCOR, SN3 and many other prominent businesses
and organizations in the community. There are many ways that you can participate in the
conference — a full listing of sponsorship opportunities and benefits can be found in this
newsletter. Please sign up now to sponsor, exhibit and attend this exciting event!
We are always looking for ways to further improve our service to members--please don’t
hesitate to contact me with any suggestions or questions.

A Look Back at the House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus By Congressman Chuck Fleischmann This year, my first as Chairman, has seen a number of changes and great growth in the Nuclear Cleanup Caucus (NCC). When I took over the Caucus I set a few simple but clear goals. The first was to continue the primary mission of the caucus, promoting awareness of our nuclear legacy throughout Congress, and I believe we have done that. Each of our events this year brought a new record turnout from staff, industry and Members of Congress.
The second was to increase the size of the caucus. Together with my co-chair, Rep. Lujan (NM-3), we have created a strong bipartisan group representing a growing swath of our nation. We continue to bring more members into the caucus for awareness of the issues that face our EM sites across the country. The third was to create true collaboration within the sites. Through our meetings this year, that featured DOE officials, and a multitude of House Members and contractors from across the EM spectrum, we have brought to the forefront the various and unique issues facing each of our cleanup sites.
This has been a great year for the NCC and I want to thank all of you who helped with our efforts. ETEBA has been a strong supporter of the Caucus, even sponsoring NCC events and ETEBA membership played a tremendous role in many of our events. I am eager to continue the great work we have started and look forward to another successful year.

Aerostar SES at Work Providing Flood Risk Mitigation for Dallas
Work is well underway by Aerostar SES LLC of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to construct an upper chain of three wetland ponds (Cells A, B, and C) along the Trinity River Corridor in Dallas, Texas, as flood mitigation for the city as well as providing improved habitat for migratory bird populations. The $18.1 million contract, awarded to Aerostar SES in 2014, is a part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District’s Dallas Floodway Extension Project that is being conducted in partnership with the City of Dallas.
During construction, an estimated 456,000 cubic yards of earthen material will be excavated, 226,000 cubic yards used for fill, and 230,000 cubic yards will be transported off-site for disposal. The project is slated for completion by October 2017, and the three new cells will then form a wetland ecosystem comprised of 57 acres of water/wetlands and 33 acres of surrounding grasslands. When combined with an adjacent lower chain, the wetlands will extend over 270 acres and will be 3.7 miles long. The area will not only serve as an alternate river channel during flood stage but will also provide improved habitat that supports resident and migratory birds.
This work is representative of large earth-moving projects in wet/tidal conditions performed by other SES Group compa-nies—SpecPro Environmental Services LLC (SES) and SES Construction and Fuel Services LLC (SCF)—over the last two decades.

North Wind Site Services Receives Small Business Designation
North Wind Site Services, LLC has been accepted into the U.S. Small Business Administration Section 8(a) Small Business Development Program. The designation makes North Wind Site Services eligible to compete and receive federal 8(a)
contracts as well as receive business development assistance from SBA. Launched in 2012, North Wind Site Services is focused on providing environmental remediation services across the U.S., including remedial investigation, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions remediation program, and regulatory public involvement services.
North Wind Site Services is one of six companies that form North Wind Group. North Wind Group president Chris Leichtweis commented that “We are excited about North Wind Site Service’s new designation and how it can open new opportunities for our growth plan and offer a complete complement of environmental services to our customers.” Kimberley Kearney, president of North Wind Site Services noted that “achieving this certification is another key step in developing Site Services and giving it a strong foundation for growth.” Kearney also commended the speed at which SBA processed the application. The certification was received a little more than 3 months after the application was submitted. Kearney believes the quick certification was a reflection that the application was thoroughly prepared and of North Wind Group’s knowledge of the SBA’s Section 8(a) Program.
North Wind Group is one of the nation’s leading small businesses providing engineering, construction, environmental, and technical services to federal and state agencies and private industry. Founded in 1997, North Wind has grown to a group of companies that employs more than 560 scientific, engineering, management, construction and professional personnel. Since 2010, North Wind has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cook Inlet Region, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation. North Wind is headquartered in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and operates from more than 20 office locations throughout the country.
