Sometimes you want to have cash around the house so that it easy to access, however, you don’t want
just anyone to be able to find it.
Perhaps you have found your own hiding places over the years, but are they as safe as you would like
them to be?
Here is a list of some of the best places to hide money around the house. Some of the hiding spots are
free while others are products that you can purchase that blend into any houses decor.
Inside a tennis ball
When was the last time you looked for a tennis ball
canister to find some money? Never would be my
guess.
Slice an opening just big enough to be able to slide
bills in and out. Then place the ball back in the
canister with the regular tennis balls.
Of course, if you don’t have other sporting
equipment it might appear strange if you have just a
collection of tennis balls.
You might think this is too obvious and that the
money will be found easily. That might be true if
you just placed the money at the bottom of your
sock drawer.
People could rummage through your socks all day
long and they will never find your envelope.
Inside of a Pen
Did you know that can hide money inside of a
pen? Yep, you can roll up a $100 bill around the
inner part of the pen, then put it back together.
Not only is your cash hidden, but you have a
perfectly good working pen as well. Just make sure
you don’t let anyone borrow it or you may be out
one hundred bucks.
Inside your shoes
While we are on cliches, why not add another one.
If you have shoes that you don’t wear too often,
why not remove the soles and store some hard
cold cash underneath them.
Empty out your Lean Cuisine box and turn it
into a safe within your freezer. The money will be
cold when you go to use it but it will be safe.
Or, if you don’t want to stash your cash in the
freezer, you could do the same thing with an
empty cereal box as well.
Just make sure that someone else in your
household doesn’t throw it away thinking that it
is empty.
Many curtain rods have ends that detach. If that is
the case for your curtain rods, then you can take
the ends off, roll the money with a tight rubber
band, insert it into the end and then put the cap
back on.
This is an easy thing to do because most cushions
have a zipper where you can quickly open the
cushion, stuff some cash inside and zip it back up.
Some bar stool seats do this too!
Teddy bears
Let’s jump from cookies to teddys. Don’t the
above two just look adorable? Adorable enough
to go unsuspected? Well that’s the plan.
Remember those cute cuddly teddy bears that
come with an inbuilt battery and a zip at the back
to access this battery? How does that space
picture to you as a cozy, cuddly money storing
space? Conniving much?
One of my personal favourites. How often do you
suspect a good classic to be a little piggy bank in
disguise? This idea would be great for those who
maintain home libraries and this hiding place
would be one tough bush to beat. Only regret
being the need to cut the pages off. Then again
there are those ready-made cut/hollow books
that serve the purpose.
Underground secret jar
If this sounds a bit in the lines of Sherlock or
Poirot, forgive me. A well protected jar buried in
your garden or backyard could be a wonderful and
unusual place to hide your money. Only mark the
place with a pebble or little something. Apparently
this was a favourite of our ancestors.
Between stairway planks
If your architect did a good job of your secret tile
from no.11, hold onto that one. Fix up a loose
plank that acts as a make shift tiny cupboard to
store/hide money. Last instruction for 11 follows

into eighths and stick it in between the plastic on
the sides. This may depend on the clock you use.
However, be careful. Someone adjusting the clock
for daylight saving or changing the battery can get
a nice surprise. Make sure you are the first one to
do those things.
Under the Lamp
lamp in the corner of the room.
No one will ever think to check under there!
Inside of a Flashlight
the battery and screw back on. Proceed to use
flashlight normally.
Inside of a Wall Compartment
If you have one of these cable TV outlets on the
wall that you don't use, you can unscrew one of
them out of the wall, and place a piece of tightly
fitting cardboard inside so it doesn't fall down into
the wall. You can now re screw the cover back on
and you have a helpful secret compartment!
On the back of your toilet
Place money in a watertight plastic bottle or jar in
the tank on the back of your toilet.
In your freezer
for all sorts of things.
People who have trouble with their credit cards
have been know to put their credit card in the
freezer to help them stop using it.
You can do the same with money.
Place the money in a Ziploc baggie or other
freezer safe container and hide it in the back of
your freezer out of sight.
Cereal box
Finish off a box of cereal and throw out the inside
bag.
Replace it with an envelope of money, close the
box and put it back in the pantry with your other
cereal.
No one will have any idea there is money in there.
Fake electric outlet
You can buy a fake electric outlet from a store
that sells household items.
all the other options on this list.
They look like authentic outlets, are easy to
install, and come with a cutout saw and template
to guide you on installation.
Remember to get one that matches the outlets in
your home so that it doesn’t stand out.
No one will go looking through an electric outlet
unless you tell them you have some money in
there.
in the medicine cabinet.
The trick here is to put your money stash into
things that have a low probability of getting stolen.
For example, a box of bandages or a bottle of
hydrogen peroxide come to mind.
Behind a hanging mirror
Put the money in an envelope and tape it to the
back of a mirror. Then just hang the mirror on the
wall as you normally would.
Buried in the back yard
Burying money in the back yard is a good way to
hide it. Just place the money in a jar or plastic
container and bury it in your yard. You’ll want to
ensure that whatever container you use is airtight
and waterproof, so the money doesn’t get damaged
or rot. Just make sure you remember where you
buried it!
If you have a wine rack or cupboard where you
store your wine, consider hiding some cash in an
empty bottle. Then you can simply put the bottle
back. Of course, you may need to break the bottle
to get the cash out, so do be very careful.
Cosmetics bag
If you have a bag where you keep your makeup,
consider placing money in there. No one is going to
think to look through a makeup bag for money. Just
place the cash into a plastic bag first.
Under the floorboards
money in a box under there. Preferably the loose
floorboard needs to be in a spot where it’s covered
over with something like a rug or coffee table.
Photo album
Place the money behind photos in a photo album.
It’s a safe place to hide stuff and most people
won’t want to steal photos!
Conclusion
As you can see, there are several ways to hide money around your house, even free options to choose
from. Your best bet is to pick the one that makes the most sense for you.
For instance, you have a two year old so you would stay away from hiding money in your shoes because
she would be likely to find it and then put some place where it is lost forever.
The Wall clock would be a much better option in your scenario.
