• Micro-blogging is a very social method of communication that appeals to our inherently inquisitive human nature. We’re social beings who like to know what other people a doing, reading, writing, watching, listening to etc.! It’s open, informal and spontaneous, all of which encourages interaction.

PurposePurpose

Users and organizations can set up their own micro-blogging service: free and open source software is available for this purpose. Hosted micro-blogging platforms are also available for commercial and organizational use.

TwitterTwitter

Twitter is an online social networking service and micro- blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters,

known as "tweets". It was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 140 million active users as of 2012, generating over 340 millions tweets daily and handling

over 1.6 billion search queries per day.

• Tweets: Each twitter user’s updates or posts.• @ Symbol: referring to or mentioning a Twitter user, and it

should be added before the username. For example @Tweet2012guide

• Retweet or RT: is when you share the tweet of one Twitter user with all of your Twitter followers.

• Reply: is when you respond to a tweet from a specific user.• Direct Messages: is a message that is sent privately to another

Twitter user.• Follower: If you find interesting Twitter users "follow them" to

subscribe to their tweets. they can follow you back but it’s not necessary.

• # Hash tags: are words or acronyms that begin with the number sign. They are used when many people are tweeting about the same topic or the same event, and it’s often atop trending topics list. For example #Dubai.

• Search: you can search for a keyword in a topic or anything that comes to your mind and you can save the search.
