Silva also averages 3.17 kills per set, while Culbertson averages 2.55 kills per set for the Hurricane.

Five TU Hitters Average Better than a .200 Attack Percentage Five of Tulsa’s six hitters - three outside hitters and two middle block-ers - have an attack percentage better than .200 at this point 33 matches into the season. The group is led by OH Tyler Henderson, who hits .354 (4.81 k/s). She is followed by MB Miriele Gobbo, who hits .290 (0.97 k/s); MB Carly Boatwright, who hits .268 (1.45 k/s); OH Kellie Culbertson, who hits .214 (2.55 k/s); and OH Kelsey Hancock, who hits .214 (1.74 k/s). Tulsa in NCAA Rankings (Nov. 27)

14-Match Win Streak Tulsa rebounded from its first conference loss in nearly two years with 14 straight victories, outscoring its opponents in sets, 42-2. TU is now 14-1 in its last 15 matches since that first loss to SMU on Oct. 5. In that 14-match winning stretch, the Golden Hurricane improved statistically nearly across the board from the first five C-USA matches of the season. The following numbers compare TU in the 14-match winning streak (first number) to the first five C-USA matches (second number): • Kills/set: 16.02 k/s --> 15.18 k/s (Oppnt: 10.48 k/s --> 11.00 k/s) • Hitting Pct: .276 --> .241 (Oppnt: .126 --> .152) • Assists/set: 15.05 a/s --> 14.18 a/s (Oppnt: 9.84 a/s --> 10.47 a/s) • Aces/set: 1.43 sa/s --> 1.41 sa/s (Oppnt: 0.57 --> 0.65) • Digs/set: 18.14 dig/s --> 16.47 dig/s (Oppnt: 15.55 dig/s --> 15.06 dig/s) • Blocks/set: 1.86 blk/s --> 1.59 blk/s (Oppnt: 1.93 blk/s --> 2.53 blk/s) In the last 15 matches of the regular season, TU averaged 15.51 k/s, a .265 hitting percentage, 14.57 a/s, 1.41 sa/s, 17.73 dig/s and 1.73 blk/s, while allowing 10.49 k/s, a .135 hitting percentage, 9.84 a/s, 0.53 sa/s, 15.39 dig/s and 2.04 blk/s.

Offensive Change-Up For all of its success in 2010 and at the beginning of this season running a 5-1 offense, the Hurricane switched to a 6-2 before the Middle Tennessee Invitational. That change was made despite TU winning 35 of its 41 matches dating from the beginning of the 2010 season through Sept. 3 of 2011. The coaching staff wanted to create a better rhythm on the floor after the Hurricane began this campaign with a 4-3 mark. The switch added freshman setter Bailey Clampitt to the mix. Now, the Tulsa offense is running through a pair of sisters. That change has made a significantly positive impact in the past two weeks. The greatest impact shows up in the wins column, where TU is 23-3 since switching offenses. The Hurricane has averaged more kills per set (15.11 k/s over 13.92 k/s), assists per set (14.26 a/s over 12.71 a/s), digs per set (16.51 dig/s over 16.04 dig/s), and more blocks per set (1.57 blk/s over 0.96 blk/s) in its last 23 matches, compared to the first seven of the season. In addition, TU has held its opponents to a lower attack percentage (.169 over .225) and fewer aces per set (0.58 sa/s over 0.96 sa/s).

Tulsa Since 2006 Since 2006, the Golden Hurricane volleyball program has gone 160-43 overall and 83-21 in C-USA. In fact, more than one-quarter of the wins in program history have come in the last six seasons. That is, 29 percent of the program’s wins over 36 seasons have come in the last five-plus years. The Hurricane has averaged 26.7 wins over those six seasons, opposed to the 12.9 wins averaged over the previous 30 seasons. The Hurricane won regular season championships in 2006, 2010 and 2011, and the C-USA tournament championship in 2007 and made three NCAA Tournament appearances. TU also boasts 24 all-confer-ence players since 2006, including 2010 and 2011 Player of the Year Tyler Henderson, 2011 Libero of the Year Jessica Adams, 2010 Setter of the Year Jordan Clampitt, and 2009 Player of the Year Jennifer Eichler.

Opening C-USA Play on the Road The Hurricane opened the C-USA portion of its schedule Sept. 23-25 at UTEP and UCF, winning 3-0 and 3-1, respectively. This is the fourth season in a row TU has played its first league match on the road. In 2008, Tulsa defeated SMU, 3-1, in Dallas. In 2009, TU dropped contests at Tulane (3-0) and UTEP (3-2). In 2010, TU beat Memphis in twin 3-1 victories in Memphis. Tulsa played its first C-USA matches of the year at home in 2006 and 2007. In 2005, Tulsa’s first year in the league, the Golden Hurricane lost at SMU, 3-2. TU has a 5-3 record in matches in which it opens league play on the road since 2005.

Bring it Around Again Tulsa carried a handful of streaks with it entering into the 2011 season. The Hurricane’s 27-match home win streak was recently broken against UC Davis. Its last loss at home prior to Sept. 3 was Sept. 12, 2009, a 3-2, setback against Gonzaga. Tulsa’s 26-match C-USA win streak dating back to the 2009 season, and a 21-match C-USA home winning streak dating back to the beginning of the 2009 campaign were recently broken with a 3-1 setback against SMU. TU’s last C-USA loss was Nov. 8, 2009, when it fell, 3-2, at Southern Miss. The 26-match winning streak is the longest in C-USA history. TU had won 30-straight regular season matches since the first weekend of the 2010 season, before losing to Kentucky on Aug. 27.

McRoberts Picks Up 400th Career Win Tulsa’s first-year head coach Steven McRoberts picked up his 400th career victory at the collegiate level with a 3-0 defeat of North Dakota State on Sept. 2 at the Reynolds Center. His career record is 424-146 (.744) in 14-plus seasons. He compiled 397 wins in pre-vious career stops at Lubbock Christian and Central Arkansas.

Tulsa Picked to Repeat as C-USA Champs The Golden Hurricane was picked to repeat as Conference USA Champions in the preseason poll voted on by the league’s coaches. Tyler Henderson was selected as the conference Preseason Player of the Year. Henderson was joined on the C-USA Preseason Team by junior libero Jessica Adams. The Golden Hurricane received 10 first-place votes, as it was predicted to finish atop the league for the second straight season. TU was one of four schools to place two players on the 12-member preseason all-conference team, along with SMU, Houston and Southern Miss. SMU, which was picked to finish sec-ond, and Houston, tabbed at third place, each received one first-place vote.

2011 Team by Position Tulsa’s most veteran group is at the outside hitter position where it features senior Kelsey Hancock, junior All-American Tyler Henderson, junior Diana Silva and sophomore Kellie Culbertson (Long Beach, Calif.). The Golden Hurricane has four players that are defensive specialists, including junior libero Jessica Adams, a 2009 All-American and two-time all-conference player.
