The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your

mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated(cordless) power tool.

Work Area Safety

Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benchesand dark areas invite accidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosive atmo-spheres, such as in the presence of flammable

liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparkswhich may ignite the dust or fumes.

Keep children and by-standers away while oper-ating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to

lose control.

Electrical Safety

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never

modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter

plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Un-modified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk ofelectric shock.

Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded sur-

faces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and re-frigerators. There is an increased risk of electrical

shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wet condi-tions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk

of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for car-rying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keepcord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving

parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk ofelectric shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors, use an ex-tension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a

cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of elec-tric shock.

If operating a power tool in a damp location is un-avoidable, use a ground fault circuit interrupter

(GFCI) protected supply. Use of a GFCI reducesthe risk of electric shock.

Personal Safety

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use com-

mon sense when operating a power tool. Do notuse a tool while you are tired or under the influence

of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inat-tention while operating power tools may result inserious personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Always weareye protection. Protective equipment such as dustmask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing pro-tection used for appropriate conditions will reduce

personal injuries.

Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is

in the off-position before connecting to powersource and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying

the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the

switch or energizing power tools that have the switch oninvites accidents.

Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turn-

ing the tool ON. A wrench or a key left attached to arotating part of the power tool may result in personal in-

jury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance

at all times. Proper footing and balance enables bet-ter control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jew-elry. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away

from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long haircan be caught in moving parts.

If devices are provided for the connection of dustextraction and collection facilities, ensure these areconnected and properly used. Use of dust collectioncan reduce dust-related hazards.

Power Tool Use and Care

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct powertool for your application. The correct power tool will

do the job better and safer at the rate for which it wasdesigned.

Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turnit ON and OFF. Any power tool that cannot be controlled

with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or

the battery pack from the power tool before makingany adjustments, changing accessories, or storingpower tools. Such preventive safety measures re-duce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

Store idle power tools out of the reach of childrenand do not allow persons unfamiliar with the pow-


er tool or these instructions to operate the powertool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or

binding of moving parts, breakage of parts andany other condition that may affect the power

tools operation. If damaged, have the power toorepaired before use. Many accidents are caused by

poorly maintained power tools.

Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly main

tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are lesslikely to bind and are easier to control.

Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. inaccordance with these instructions, taking into ac

count the working conditions and the work to beperformed. Use of the power tool for operations dif

ferent from those intended could result in a hazardoussituation.

Service

Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repairperson using only identical replacement parts. This

will ensure that the safety of the power tool is main-tained.

Before using, test the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) provided with the power cord to

insure it is operating correctly. GFCI reduces the riskof electrical shock.

Extension cords are not recommended unless theyare plugged into a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter

(GFCI) found in circuit boxes or outlet recepta-cles. The GFCI on the machine power cord will no

prevent electrical shock from the extension cords.

Description

The RIDGIDAuto-Clean Drain Cleaning machine is de-signed to clean 3/4" (19mm) to 11/2" (38mm) drain lines in

sinks, tubs and showers. The Auto-Clean drain cleaner issupplied with an air foot pedal for ON/OFF control of the

motor and features a 2-way AUTOFEEDunit, which au-tomatically advances and retrieves the cable. The

AUTOFEED allows the cable to be directly fed into thedrain which minimizes mess and helps to protect fixtures.

The Auto-Clean drain cleaner is not recommended foruse with toilets.

The Auto-Clean drain cleaner is protected under various

U.S. and International patents, including 6,412,136,7,478,451 and D570,558.

This machine is made to clean drains. If prop-erly used it will not damage a drain that is in good condition

and properly designed, constructed and maintained. Ifthe drain is in poor condition, or has not been properly de-

signed, constructed and maintained, the drain cleaningprocess may not be effective or could cause damage to thedrain. The best way to determine the condition of a drain

a rag. They can become wrapped around the cable,

causing hand injuries. Only wear latex or rubber glovesunderleather work gloves. Do not use damaged gloves.

Do not allow the end of cable to stop turning while

the machine is running. This can overstress the cableand may cause twisting, kinking or breaking of thecable.

Position machine so that the AUTOFEED is within6" (15 cm) of the drain inlet or properly support ex-

posed cable when the distance exceeds 6" (15cm). Greater distances can cause control problemsleading to twisting, kinking or breaking of the cable.

One person must control both the cable and the

foot switch. If the cutter stops rotating, the operatormust be able to turn the machine motor off to preventtwisting, kinking and breaking of the cable.

Do not operate the machine in REV (reverse) rota-tion except as described in this manual. Operatingin reverse can result in cable damage and is used toback the tool out of blockages.

Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep yourhair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose

clothing, jewelry or hair can be caught in moving parts.

Always use appropriate personal protective equip-

ment while handling and using drain cleaningequipment. Drains may contain chemicals, bacteria and

other substances that may be toxic, infectious, cause

burns or other issues. Appropriate personal protectiveequipment always includes safety glasses andleather work gloves in good condition, and may in-

clude equipment such as latex or rubber gloves, faceshields, goggles, protective clothing, respirators andsteel toed footwear.

Practice good hygiene. Use hot, soapy water towash hands and other body parts exposed to drain

contents after handling or using drain cleaning equip-ment. Do not eat or smoke while operating or handling

drain cleaning equipment. This will help prevent con-tamination with toxic or infectious material.

Do not operate this machine if operator or ma-chine is standing in water. Operating machine while

in water increases the risk of electrical shock.

Only use drain cleaner to clean drains of recom-

mended sizes according to these instructions.Other uses or modifying the drain cleaning machine for

other applications may increase the risk of injury.

The EC Declaration of Conformity (890-011-320.10) will

accompany this manual as a separate booklet when re-quired.

Machine Assembly

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury during use, fol-low these procedures for proper assembly.

Instructions For Attaching AUTOFEEDAssembly

1. Put the tip of the cable into the guide hose (Figure 3)

and feed it through the hose to the AUTOFEED

assembly.

2. The bulb head auger will not fit through the AUTO-FEED assembly. Pull up on both the ADVANCE

and RETRIEVE levers and then feed the cablethrough the AUTOFEED. (Figure 4)

3. Release the ADVANCE and RETRIEVE levers.

4. Attach the guide hose to the machine by pushingthe hose over the nose of the drum cover. (Figure 5)

serious injury from electric shock, twisted or brokencables, chemical burns, infections and other causesand prevent drain cleaner damage.

Always wear safety glasses, leather work gloves,and other appropriate protective equipment when

inspecting your drain cleaner. For extra protectionfrom chemicals and bacteria on the equipment,wear latex, rubber or other liquid barrier glovesunder the leather work gloves.

1. Inspect the leather work gloves. Make sure they are

in good condition with no holes, tears or loose sec-tions that could be caught in the rotating cable. It is

important not to wear improper or damaged gloves.The gloves protect hands from the rotating cable

and drain contents. If the gloves are not leather workgloves or are damaged or worn out, do not use ma-chine until proper gloves are available.

2. Make sure that the drain cleaning machine is un-plugged and the ON/OFF/REV switch set to OFF.Inspect the power cord, Ground Fault Circuit Interrup-ter (GFCI) (if equipped, 120V units) and plug for

damage. If the plug has been modified, or if the cordis damaged, to avoid electrical shock, do not use the

machine until the cord has been replaced by a quali-fied repair person.

3. Clean any oil, grease or dirt from all equipment han-

dles and controls. This aids inspection and helpsprevent the machine or control from slipping fromyour grip. Clean any debris from the cable and drum.

4. Make sure the foot switch is attached to the draincleaning machine. Do not operate the machine with-

out the foot switch.

5. Inspect the drain cleaner for the following items:

Proper assembly and completeness

Broken, worn, missing, mis-aligned or binding parts

Smooth and free movement of the ADVANCE andRETRIEVE levers.

Presence and readability of the warning label (see

Figure 6).

If any problems are found, do not use the drain

cleaner until the problems have been repaired.6. Inspect cable for wear and damage Look for

Obvious flats worn into the outside of the cable(cable is made from round wire and profile should beround).

Multiple or excessively large kinks (slight kinks up to15 degrees can be straightened).

Space between the coils indicating the cable hasbeen deformed by stretching, kinking or running inREVERSE.


Excessive corrosion from storing wet or exposure todrain chemicals.

All of these forms of wear and damage weaken thecable and make cable twisting, kinking or breaking

more likely during use. Replace worn and damagedcable before using drain cleaner.

Make sure cable is fully retracted with no more than 2"(50mm) of cable outside of AUTOFEED. This willprevent whipping at start up.

7. Make sure that the ON/OFF/REV switch is set to

the OFF position.

8. With dry hands, plug cord into properly grounded

outlet. Test the GFCI (if equipped) provided in theelectrical cord to insure that it is operating correctly.When the test button is pushed in, the reset button

should pop out. Reactivate by pushing the reset but-ton in. If GFCI is not functioning properly, unplug the

cord and do not use the drain cleaning machine untilthe GFCI has been repaired.

9. Move the ON/OFF/REV switch into the ON position.Do not push feed levers. Press the foot switch and

note the direction of rotation of the cable. If the footswitch does not control the machine operation, do not

use the machine until the foot switch has been re-paired. The cable should rotate counter-clockwisewhen viewed from the front. Release the foot switch

and let the cable come to a complete stop. Hold the

ON/OFF/REV switch in the REV position, and re-peat above testing to confirm that the drain cleaneroperates properly in reverse. If the rotation is not

correct, do not use the machine until it has been re-paired.

10. With the inspection complete, move the ON/OFF/REVswitch to the OFF position, and with dry hands, unplug

the machine.

4. Make sure machine has been properly inspected.

5. If needed, place protective covers in the work area.

6. If needed, take appropriate steps to access the drainto be cleaned.

For many drains, the cable can be threaded through

the cross hairs in the drain (See Figure 7).

For a sink with a pop up drain plug: Remove lift rodand drain plug (See Figure 8). Be sure to place a

container under the clean out or trap to catch anywater that may come out.

For other sinks a clean out plug or trap may need tobe removed (See Figure 9.)Be sure to place a

container under the clean out or trap to catch anywater that may come out.

For bathtubs, never try to go through the drain, this

will damage the cable. Remove the overflow plateand any mechanism to access the drain (See Fi-

gure 10).

7. Position the drain cleaning machine so it sits squarely

and firmly on the rubber feet provided. The end of theAUTOFEED must be within 6" (15 cm) of the drainopening. The guide hose should not be pulled tight or

kinked to reach this position. Greater distances from thedrain access increase the risk of the cable twisting o

kinking.

8. If the machine cannot be placed close enough to the

drain opening, extend the drain access back to within6" (15 cm) from the AUTOFEED with similar sized pipe

and fittings. Improper cable support can allow thecable to twist and kink and can damage the cable oinjure the operator. See Figure 11.

Machine and Work Area Set-Up

WARNING

Set up the drain cleaning machine and work area ac-cording to these procedures to reduce the risk ofinjury from electric shock, twisted or broken ca-bles, chemical burns, infections and other causes,and prevent drain cleaner damage.

Always wear safety glasses, leather work gloves,and other appropriate protective equipment whensetting up your drain cleaner. For extra protectionfrom chemicals and bacteria on the machine and in

the work area, wear latex, rubber or other liquid bar-rier gloves under the leather gloves.

Rubber soled, non-slip shoes can help prevent slip-ping and electric shock, especially on wet surfaces.

1. Check work area for:

Adequate lighting.

Flammable liquids, vapors or dust that may ignite. If

present, do not work in area until sources havebeen identified and corrected. The drain cleaner

is not explosion proof and can cause sparks.

Clear, level, stable dry place for machine and oper-

ator. Do not use the machine while standing in wa-ter. If needed, remove the water from the work area.

Properly grounded electrical outlet. A three-prong or

GFCI outlet may not be properly grounded. If indoubt, have outlet inspected by a licensed electrician.

Clear path to electrical outlet that does not con-

tain any potential sources of damage for the powercord.

2. Inspect the drain to be cleaned. If possible, deter-mine the access point(s) to the drain, the size(s) and

length(s) of the drain, distance to mainlines, the natureof the blockage, presence of drain cleaning chemicals

or other chemicals, etc. If chemicals are present in thedrain, it is important to understand the specific safetymeasures required to work around those chemicals.

Contact the chemical manufacturer for required in-formation.

3. Determine the correct drain cleaning equipment for theapplication. The Auto-Clean drain cleaner is made for:

Up to 11/2" (32mm) lines up to 25' (7.6m) long with1/4" (6mm) cable.

9. Evaluate the work area and determine if any barriersare needed to keep bystanders away from the drain

cleaner and work area. Bystanders can distract the op-erator.

10. Position the foot switch for easy accessibility. Youmust be able to hold and control the AUTOFEEDand guide hose, control the foot switch, and reach the

ON/OFF/REV switch.

11. Confirm that the ON/OFF/REV switch is in the OFFposition.

12. Run the cord along a clear path. With dry hands plugthe drain cleaner into a properly grounded outlet.Keep all connections dry and off the ground. If the

power cord is not long enough, use an extensioncord that:

Is in good condition.

Has a plug similar to that supplied on the drain

cleaner.

Is rated for outdoor use and contains a W or W-A in

the cord designation (i.e. SOW), or complies withH05VV-F, H05RN-F types or IEC type design(60227 IEC 53, 60245 IEC 57).

Has sufficient wire size (16 AWG (1.5mm2) for 50'

(15.2m) or less, 14 AWG (2.5mm2) for 50' 100'

(15.2m 30.5m) long). Undersized wires can over-heat, melting the insulation or causing a fire or other

damage.

The GFCI on the drain cleaner (if equipped) does

not protect the extension cord. If the outlet is notGFCI protected, use a plug in type GFCI between theoutlet and the extension cord to reduce the risk of

electrical shock from extension cord faults. If thedrain cleaner is not equipped with a GFCI, use a

plug in type GFCI between the outlet and the draincleaner to reduce the risk of electrical shock.

Operating Instructions

WARNING

Always wear eye protection to protect your eyesagainst dirt and other foreign objects.

Always wear leather work gloves in good condi-tion. Never grasp the rotating cable with anythingelse, including a rag. They can become wrappedaround the cable, causing serious injury.

When cleaning drains that might contain hazardous

chemicals or bacteria, wear appropriate protectiveequipment, such as goggles, face shields or respi-rators, to prevent burns and infections. For extraprotection from chemicals and bacteria on the ma-chine and in the work area, wear latex, rubber orother liquid barrier gloves under the leather workgloves. Rubber soled, non-slip shoes can help pre-vent slipping and electric shock, especially on wetsurfaces.

Follow operating instructions to reduce the risk ofinjury from twisted or broken cables, cable endswhipping around, machine tipping, chemical burns,infections and other causes.

1. Make sure that machine and work area is properly setup and that the work area is free of bystanders andother distractions.

2. Wearing leather work gloves in good condition, pull

cable out of machine and feed into drain. Push cableas far into drain as it will go. At least one foot ofcable must be in drain so that the end of the cable will

not come out of the drain and whip around whenyou start the machine.

3. Assume a proper operating position.

Be sure you can control the ON/OFF action of the

foot switch and can quickly release the foot switchif needed. Do not step on foot switch yet.

Be sure that you have good balance, do not have toover reach, and cannot fall.

You must be able to control and support the guide

hose and AUTOFEED as the cable feeds into thedrain and blockage.

You must be able to reach the ON/OFF/REV switch.

This operating position will help to maintain control ofthe cable and machine. See Figure 12.

4. Move the ON/OFF/REV switch to the ON position. Donot depress the foot switch yet. Do not rotate thecable in reverse except as specifically described in

these instructions. Running the drain cleaner in REVcan damage the cable.

Grasp the AUTOFEED with one hand and hold it sothat the end of the AUTOFEED is within 6" (15 cm) ofthe drain opening. See Figure 12. The guide hose

helps to protect the fixture from damage and con-tain the liquid thrown off the cable as it is retrieved

from the drain. If the AUTOFEED is not kept within 6"(15 cm) of the drain opening, the cable will not be

properly supported and may allow the cable to twist,kink or break.

Pay attention to how the guide hose feels in yourhand. Because the guide hose is over the cable,

there is less sensitivity to the loading of the cable, andit can be hard to tell if the cable end is rotating or not.If the cable end is not rotating, the drain is not being

cleaned.

Starting The Cable In The Drain

Confirm at least one foot of cable is in drain and end of

AUTOFEED is less than 6" (15 cm) from Drain openingPress on the foot switch to start the machine. To advance

the cable into the drain, depress the ADVANCE feedlever (Figure 13 and 14). The rotating cable will work itsway into the drain. The person controlling the cable

and the AUTOFEED must also control the foot switchDo not operate the drain cleaner with one person

controlling the cable and AUTOFEED and anotherperson controlling the foot switch. This can lead to

kinking, twisting and breaking of the cable.

If it is hard to get the cable through a trap, the following

methods or combination of methods can be used.

First, sharp downward thrusts on the cable/guide

hose, both with and without the cable turning, canhelp to get the tool to pass through the trap.

A second method is to run the drain cleaner in REV(REVERSE) for several seconds while pushing down

on the cable/guide hose. Only do this long enough toget the cable started through the trap. Running thedrain cleaner in reverse can damage the cable. With

the cable rotating in REV, the ADVANCE feed lever re-trieves the cable and the RETRIEVE feed lever

advances the cable.

Finally, if none of these options work, consider using asmaller diameter or more flexible cable, or a different

drain cleaner.

Cleaning The Drain

Always keep one hand on the guide hose. As you feed the

cable into the drain, you may feel and see the cableslow down and feel the guide hose start to load or wind up

(this will feel like the guide hose is starting to twist orsquirm). This may be a transition in the drain line (trap,

elbow, etc.) build up in the drain (grease, etc.), or the ac-tual blockage. Feed the cable slowly and carefully. Do notlet cable build up outside drain. This can cause the cable

to twist, kink or break. Keep end of AUTOFEED within 6"(15 cm) of drain opening.

Pay attention to the amount of cable that has been fed intothe drain. Feeding cable into a larger drain line or similar

transition may cause the cable to kink or knot and preventremoval from the drain. Minimize the amount of cable fed

into the transition to prevent problems.

Working The Blockage

If the end of the cable stops turning, it is no longer clean-

ing the drain. If the cable end becomes lodged in theblockage and power is maintained to the drain cleaner, the

cable will start to wind up (this may feel like the guide hoseis starting to twist or squirm) or buildup outside the drain.Having a hand on the guide hose can allow you to feel this

wind up and control the cable. As you feel the cablewind up or if the cable end stops turning, immediately re-

lease the advance feed and depress the retrieve feedlever to free the cable end from the blockage. Dont keep

the cable rotating if the cable end is stuck in a blockage.

If the cable end stops turning and the drum keeps rotating,the cable can twist, kink or break.

Once the cable end is free of the blockage and the cable

end is turning again, you can slowly feed the rotatingcable end back into the blockage. Let the spinning cableend dwell in the blockage to help completely break it up.

Do not try to force the cable end through the blockage.Work the cable end in this manner until it has moved com-

pletely past the blockage (or blockages), and the drain isflowing.

While working the blockage, the cable end may becomeclogged with debris and cuttings from the blockage. This

can prevent further progress. The cable needs to be re-trieved from the drain and the debris removed. Seesection on Retrieving the Cable.

If the cable end continues to get hung up in the blockage,a different drain cleaner may need to be used.

Handling A Stuck Tool

If the cable end stops turning and the cable cannot be

pulled back from the blockage, release the foot switch,maintain a firm grip on the AUTOFEED and guide hoseand release the feed lever. Do not remove your hand

from guide hose or the cable may kink, twist andbreak. The motor will stop and the cable and drum will turn

backwards until the energy stored in the cable is relieved.Do not remove hand from the AUTOFEED and guide

hose until the tension is released. Place ON/OFF/REVswitch in the OFF position.

Freeing A Stuck Tool

If the tool is stuck in the blockage, hold the ON/OFF/REVswitch in the REV position. With both AUTOFEED leversreleased press the foot switch for several seconds until it

is free of the blockage. Do not operate the machine in theREV position any longer than required to free the cable

end from the blockage or cable damage can occur. Placethe ON/OFF/REV switch in the ON position and con-

tinue cleaning the drain.

Retrieving The Cable

Once the drain is open, if possible start a flow of water

down the drain to flush the debris out of the line. This canbe done by turning on a faucet in the system or other

methods. Pay attention to the water level, as the draincould plug again.

With water flowing through the drain, retrieve the cablefrom the line by depressing the retrieve feed lever. TheON/OFF/REV switch should be in the ON position do

not retrieve the cable with the ON/OFF/REV in the REVposition, this can damage the cable. As with feeding the

cable into the drain, keep hands firmly on the AUTO-FEED and guide hose for control. The cable end can

become caught while being retrieved. The flow of waterdown the line will help to clean the cable as it is re-trieved. Continue retrieving the cable until the tool is just

inside the drain opening. Release the feed lever and re-lease the foot switch, allowing the cable to come to a

complete stop. Do not pull the end of the cable from thedrain while the cable is rotating. The tool can whip

around and could cause serious injury.

Place the ON/OFF/REV in the OFF position and with

dry hands unplug the machine. Pull the remaining cable

from the drain by hand and feed into the drain cleaner. If

needed, continue cleaning following the above process.Several passes through a line are recommended forcomplete cleaning.

Maintenance Instructions

WARNING

ON/OFF/REV switch should be OFF and machine un-plugged before performing any maintenance.

Always wear safety glasses and leather work gloveswhen performing any maintenance.

Cables

Cables should be thoroughly flushed with water after

every use to prevent damaging effects of sediment anddrain cleaning compounds. Flush cable with water and

drain debris from drum by tipping machine forward afterevery use to remove sediment, etc. which can corrodecable.

AUTOFEED

After each use, hose out AUTOFEED assembly with

water and lubricate with lightweight machine oil.

Cleaning

The machine should be cleaned as needed with hot,soapy water and/or disinfectants. Do not allow waterto enter motor or other electrical components. Make

sure unit is completely dry before plugging in and using.

Replacing the Cable

1. Remove the guide hose by pulling it off of the nose ofthe machine. Pull up on the AUTOFEED levers so thatthe end of the cable can fit through the AUTOFEED

and pull the cable through the guide hose. Push re-maining cable back into the drum until just the tip of the

cable is left outside of the nose of the machine.

2. Loosen the three screws surrounding the outer drum

housing. (The screws do not need to be completelyremoved). Remove the drum cover.

3. Pull the entire drum out of the machine.

4. Flip the drum over and remove the three outer-mostscrews from the drum. (Figure 15)

5. Pull out the inner drum and disconnect the cable.Push the end back into the drum.

6. Face the drum towards the floor. Starting with theauger end of the cable, pull the cable out completely

through the front of the drum.

7. Feed the end of the new cable back through the

nose of the outer drum and then attach it to the innerdrum (Figure 16). Use the illustration on the innerdrum as a guide for which direction to start the cable.

8. Replace inner drum back in outer drum. Put the sec-tion of the inner drum with the cable attached into the

outer drum first. Push the rest of the inner drum intoplace. Line up the three screw holes and replace

the screws.

9. Flip the drum over and manually feed the cable back

into the drum. (Figure 17)

10. Place the machine on its end and place the drum

back on the machine (Figure 18). Spin the drum untilit falls into place.

11. Replace the drum cover by lining up the holes overthe screws. Then fasten screws.

12. Reattach the guide hose as shown in AssemblySection.

Clutch Adjustment

Machine is equipped with a slip clutch to limit machine

movement during starting. The slip clutch may need ad-justing after extended use. If the machine lacks power ordoes not reach full speed quickly the clutch will need ad-

justment.

1. Remove drum from machine. (See Replacing TheCable).

2. Flip the drum over and remove the three clutch re-tention screws holding the clutch assembly in place.

3. Hold the nuts on the back of the clutch assemblywhile tightening the two clutch adjustment screws to

5 to 6 in.-lbs. Do not over tighten. (See Figure 15).

4. Replace the clutch retention screws holding the clutch

to the drum.

5. Install the drum in the machine.

Lorsque lutilisation dun appareil lectrique dansun milieu humide savre invitable, assurez-vousque son rseau dalimentation est protg par undisjoncteur diffrentiel (GFCI). La prsence dundisjoncteur diffrentiel limite les risques de choc lec-trique.

Service aprs-vente Confiez lappareil un rparateur qualifi se ser-

vant exclusivement de pices de rechange dori-gine. Cela sera garant de la scurit oprationnelle delappareil.

manipulation ou utilisation du matriel de curage. Ne jamais manger ou fumer lors de la manipulation ou util-

isation du matriel de curage. Cela aidera viter lesrisques de contamination par contact avec des matires

toxiques ou infectieuses.

Ne pas utiliser cet appareil si vous (ou lappareil lui-mme) avez les pieds dans leau. Le moindre contacavec de leau augmenterait les risques de choc lec-trique.

Avant toute utilisation, testez le disjoncteur dif-frentiel (GFCI) fourni avec le cordon dalimentationafin de vous assurer de son bon fonctionnement.La prsence dun disjoncteur diffrentiel limite lesrisques de choc lectrique.

Lutilisation de rallonges lectriques est dconseille sicelles-ci ne sont pas elles-mmes protges par un

disjoncteur diffrentiel quipant le tableau lec-trique ou la prise de courant utilis. Le disjoncteurdiffrentiel du cordon dalimentation de lappareil noffreaucune protection contre les chocs lectriques em-menant des rallonges.

Maintenez toutes connexions lectriques au sec etsurleves. Ne touchez pas les fiches ou lappareilavec des mains mouilles. Cela limitera les risquesde choc lectrique.

Portez des gants de travail en cuir. Ne jamais pren-dre un cble rotatif en main avec autre chose, ycompris dautres types de gants ou des chiffons.Ceux-ci risqueraient de senvelopper autour du cble etprovoquer des blessures. Ne portez des gants enlatex ou en caoutchouc que sousles gants de travail en

cuir. Ne jamais porter de gants endommags.

Ne laissez pas loutil de coupe sarrter pendantque lappareil tourne. Cela risquerait de tordre, plisserou rompre le cble.

Positionnez lappareil de manire ce que le sys-tme AUTOFEED se trouve moins de 15 cm (6")du point daccs la canalisation ou soutenez lecble expos si son loignement du point dentre

est suprieur 15 cm (6"). Un loignement suprieurrisque de provoquer des problmes de contrle sus-ceptibles de provoquer la torsion, le plissage ou la

rupture du cble.

Un seul individu doit contrler la fois le cble etla pdale de commande. Si le couteau cesse detourner, lutilisateur doit pouvoir arrter le moteur de

lappareil afin dviter les risques de bouclage, plissageou rupture du cble.

Description et caractristiquestechniquesDescriptionLe dgorgeoir RIDGID Auto-Clean est prvu pour le

curage des vacuations dvier, de baignoire et de douchede 3/4" 11/2" (19 mm 38 mm) de diamtre. Le dgor-

geoir Auto-Clean est quip dune pdale de commandemarche/arrt pneumatique et dun systme davancement

bidirectionnel type AUTOFEED qui permet davanceret reculer le cble automatiquement. Le systme AUT-OFEED permet dintroduire le cble directement dans

la canalisation afin de limiter la salissure et de protger leslments sanitaires.

Le dgorgeoir Auto-Clean nest pas recommand pour lecurage des cuvettes de W-C.

Le dgorgeoir Auto-Clean bnficie de la protection deplusieurs brevets amricains et internationaux com-

prenant les suivants : 6,412,136 ; 7,478,451 et D570,558.

Cet appareil est prvu pour le

curage des canalisations dvacuation. Utilis de manire

approprie, il nendommagera pas une canalisation enbon tat de fonctionnement, correctement conue etconstruite, et bien entretenue. Dans le cas contraire, leprocessus de curage pourrait savrer inefficace, voire en-

dommager la canalisation. Le meilleur moyen de vrifierltat dune canalisation avant son curage est deffectuer

une inspection visuelle par camra. Tout abus de cetype de dgorgeoir pourrait endommager la fois

lappareil et la canalisation. Cet appareil risque de nepas pouvoir liminer tous les types dobstacle.

3. Lchez les leviers davancement et de retrait delAUTOFEED.

Inspection pralable delappareil

AVERTISSEMENT

Avant chaque utilisation, examinez le dgorgeoir

et corrigez les anomalies ventuelles afin de limiter(entre autres) les risques de choc lectrique, delsions provoques par le bouclage ou la rupturedes cbles, de brlure chimique ou dinfection etviter dendommager le dgorgeoir.

Portez systmatiquement des lunettes de scurit,des gants de travail en cuir, et les autres quipe-ments de protection individuelle prvus lors delinspection du dgorgeoir. Protgez-vous gale-ment contre les produits chimiques et les bactriesen portant des gants en latex, caoutchouc ou autrematire tanche sous les gants de travail.

1. Examinez les gants de travail. Assurez-vous quilssont en bon tat et quils ne comportent ni trous ou

dchirures susceptibles dtre entrans par le cbleen rotation. Il ne faut en aucun cas porter des gants

inadapts ou endommags. Ces gants servent protger vos mains lors de la manipulation du cble

en rotation. Si les gants de travail ne sont pas en cuirou sils sont endommags, uss ou trop grands,nutilisez pas lappareil avant de vous tre quip

des gants appropris.

2. Assurez-vous que le dgorgeoir est dbranch etque son interrupteur ON/OFF/REV (marche avant/ar-rt/marche arrire) se trouve la position OFF. Ex-

aminez son cordon dalimentation, son disjoncteurdiffrentiel (sur les appareils 120V ainsi quips) et sa

fiche pour signes de dtrioration ou de modifica-tion. Le cas chant, nutilisez pas lappareil avant que

son cordon ait t remplac par un rparateur qualifi

3. Eliminez toutes traces dhuile, de graisse et de crasseventuelles des poignes et commandes de lappareilCela facilitera linspection de lappareil et limitera les

risques de perte de contrle de lappareil ou de sescommandes. Nettoyez le cble et le tambour de tous

dbris ventuels.

4. Assurez-vous que la pdale de commande est bien

raccorde au dgorgeoir. Nutilisez pas lappareisans sa pdale de commande.

5. Points contrler sur le dgorgeoir :

Lintgralit et le bon assemblage de lappareil

Signes dlments endommags, uss, manquantsdsaligns ou gripps

Libre mouvement des leviers davancement et de

retrait

Prsence et de la lisibilit de ltiquette de scurit

Nutilisez pas lappareil avant que toute anomalieventuelle ait t rpare.

9. Mettez linterrupteur ON/OFF/REV la position ONsans appuyer sur les leviers de lAUTOFEED. Ap-

puyez sur la pdale de commande afin de confirmerle sens de rotation du cble. Si la pdale de com-

mande ne contrle pas lappareil, faites-la rparer

avant dutiliser le dgorgeoir. Vu de face, le cbledevrait tourner gauche. Lchez la pdale de com-mande et attendez que le cble sarrte. Tenezlinterrupteur ON/OFF/REV en position REV, puis

rptez le processus prcdant afin de vrifier que ledgorgeoir fonctionne bien en marche arrire aussi.

Sinon, nutilisez pas lappareil avant quil ait t rpar.

10. Une fois linspection termine, ramenez linterrupteur

ON/OFF/REV en position OFF, puis, avec les mainssches, dbranchez lappareil.

Prparation de lappareil etdu chantier

MISE EN GARDE

Respectez les consignes ci-prsentes visant lin-stallation de lappareil et du chantier afin de limiterles risques de blessure par choc lectrique et bou-clage ou rupture des cbles, ainsi que les risques debrlures chimiques, dinfection et autres lsionset, enfin, viter dendommager le dgorgeoir.

Portez systmatiquement des lunettes de scurit,des gants de travail en cuir et tout autre quipementde protection appropri lors de linstallation du d-gorgeoir. Afin de mieux vous protger contre les pro-duits chimiques et les bactries environnants, portezdes gants en latex ou en caoutchouc sous les gantsde travail.

Des chaussures antidrapantes semelles en caout-chouc peuvent aider vous protger contre lesdrapages et les chocs lectriques, surtout sur lessols mouills.

1. Examinez les lieux pour :

Un clairage suffisant

La prsence de liquides, manations ou poussires

inflammables qui risquerait de senflammer. Le caschant, ne travaillez pas dans la zone en questionavant que leur source ait tait identifie et lim-

ine. Le dgorgeoir nest pas blind et risque deproduire des tincelles.

6. Points contrler sur le cble :

Usure (aplatissement) superficielle anormale. Le

cble tant compos de torons, le profil de sa sur-

face devrait toujours tre cylindrique. Plissures nombreuses ou excessives. A noter que

les plissures de moins de 15 peuvent tre re-dresses.

Ecartement des torons du cble indiquant un tire-ment ou plissage de celui-ci, voire lutilisation de la

marche arrire.

Corrosion prononce du cble suite son stockageen ltat (mouill) ou son exposition aux produits

chimiques.

Toutes ces formes dusure et de dgradation con-

tribuent laffaiblissement du cble et augmentent

les risques de vrillage, plissage et rupture en coursdutilisation. Remplacez tout cble excessivement us

ou endommag avant dutiliser le dgorgeoir.

Assurez-vous que le cble est entirement rembobin(avec un maximum de 2" (50 mm) de cble sortant delAUTOFEED) afin de limiter les risques de fouettement

au dmarrage de lappareil.

7. Assurez-vous que linterrupteur ON/OFF/REV se

trouve en position OFF.

8. Avec les mains sches, branchez la fiche de lappareilsur une prise avec terre approprie. Testez le dis-

joncteur diffrentiel du cordon dalimentation (desappareils 120V ainsi quips) afin de vous assurer deson bon fonctionnement. La touche de rarmement

doit ressortir ds que la touche de contrle est ap-puye. Ractivez le disjoncteur en appuyant sur sa

touche de rarmement. Si le disjoncteur diffrentiel nefonctionne pas comme prvu, dbranchez lappareil etne vous en servez pas avant que le disjoncteur ait t

rpar.

Un endroit dgag, de niveau, stable et sec pour

lappareil et son utilisateur. Ne pas utiliser cet appareillorsque vous avez les pieds dans leau. Si nces-saire vacuez leau du chantier.

Une prise de courant avec terre approprie. Les

prises avec terre et les disjoncteurs diffrentiels nesont pas toujours correctement relis la terre. Encas de doute, faites inspecter la prise par un lec-

tricien professionnel.

Un passage dgag jusqu la prise de courantne prsentant aucun lment susceptible dendom-

mager le cordon dalimentation.

2. Examinez la canalisation curer. Si possible, es-

sayez de dterminer le ou les points daccs lacanalisation, sa section et sa longueur, la distance

jusqu la fosse septique ou lgout, la nature delobstruction, la prsence ventuelle de produits chim-

iques, etc. En prsence de produits chimiques, il im-porte de connatre les mesures de scurit applicableslors des travaux proximit de ceux-ci. Consultez le

fabricant du produit chimique en question pour les ren-seignements ncessaires.

3. Dterminez le type de matriel de curage ncessaireen fonction de la situation qui se prsente. Le dgor-

geoir Auto-Clean est prvu pour le curage des canal-isations :

Section maxi : 32 mm (11/2"), longueur maxi : 7,60 m(25') avec cble de 6 mm (1/4").

Le dgorgeoir Auto-Clean nest pas prvu pour ledgorgement des cuvettes de W-C.

Des renseignements sur les dgorgeoirs prvuspour dautres types dapplications peuvent tre

obtenus la fois dans le catalogue Ridge Tool, enligne www.RIDGID.com ou www.RIDGID.eu.

4. Assurez-vous que le matriel de curage utilis a tpralablement inspect.

5. Au besoin, prvoyez des bches de protection pour lechantier.

6. Au besoin, prenez les mesures ncessaires pour ac-

cder la canalisation dvacuation. Dans de nombreux cas, il sera possible denfiler le

cble via le tamis de lvacuation (Figure 7).

Dans le cas dun vier bonde, enlevez la bonde etsa tirette (Figure 8), puis mettez un rcipient sous lebouchon de dgorgement pour rcuprer les efflu-

ents ventuels.

Dans dautres viers, il sera peut-tre ncessaire de

retirer la bonde ou le siphon (Figure 9). Noubliezpas de placer un rcipient sous le siphon ou le

bouchon de dgorgement en question afin dercuprer les effluents ventuels.

Dans le cas des baignoires, ne jamais tenter depasser directement par le siphon. Cela risquerai

dendommager le cble. Enlevez plutt le cou-vercle du trop-plein et son mcanisme pour ac-

cder lvacuation (Figure 10).

7. Posez le dgorgeoir fermement sur ses pieds encaoutchouc. Lextrmit de lAUTOFEED doit se trou-ver moins de 15 cm (6") du point dentre de lacanalisation. Le guide-cble ne doit pas tre trop tir ouexcessivement boucl pour atteindre cette positionUne distance suprieure par rapport au point dentrede lvacuation augmenterait les risques de vrillage etplissage de cble.

8. Sil est impossible de rapprocher le dgorgeoir suffisamment, prolongez le tuyau dvacuation poulamener 6" (15 cm) de lAUTOFEED laide duntuyau manchon de section correspondante. Uncble mal soutenu risque de fouetter ou se boucler aupoint dendommager le cble et blesser lutilisateur delappareil (Figure 11).

9. Examinez les lieux afin de dterminer sil sera ncessaire dinstaller des barricades pour loigner les curieuxdu chantier en cours. Les curieux risquent de dis-

traire loprateur.

10. Positionnez la pdale de commande de manire pouvoir latteindre facilement. Vous devez pouvoitenir et contrler lAUTOFEED et le guide-cble, tou

en manipulant la pdale de commande et en at-teignant linterrupteur ON/OFF/REV en mme temps

11. Vrifiez que linterrupteur ON/OFF/REV se trouve enposition OFF.

12. Faites courir le cordon dalimentation le long du pas-

sage dgag. Avec les mains sches, branchez le d-gorgeoir sur une prise avec mise la terre approprie.

Maintenez toutes connexions au sec et surleves. Sile cordon dalimentation nest pas suffisamment long,

prvoyez une rallonge lectrique possdant les car-actristiques suivantes :

Un bon tat gnral

Une fiche semblable celle du cordondalimentation du dgorgeoir

Une homologation pour utilisation lextrieur in-dique par la mention W ou W-A dans sa dsigna-

tion (ex., SOW), une homologation type H05VV-Fou H05RN-F, voire une homologation IEC type60227 IEC 53 ou 60245 IEC 5

Une section de fils suffisante, savoir 16 AWG(1,5 mm2) pour une longueur maximale de 50 pieds(15,20 m) et 14 AWG (2,5 mm2) pour des longueurs

allant de 50 100 pieds (15,20 30,50 m). Des filsde section insuffisante risqueraient de surchauf-

fer, faire fondre leurs gaines isolantes et provoquerun incendie ou dautres dgts.

A noter que le disjoncteur diffrentiel des dgorgeoirs

120V ainsi quips ne protge pas les rallonges lec-triques ventuelles. Si la prise de courant nest pasquipe dun disjoncteur diffrentiel, il serait prfrable

de prvoir un second disjoncteur diffrentiel entre laprise de courant et la rallonge afin de limiter les

risques de choc lectrique en cas danomalie auniveau de la rallonge. Si le dgorgeoir nest pasquip dun disjoncteur diffrentiel, prvoyez un dis-

joncteur brancher entre la prise de courant et le d-gorgeoir afin de limiter les risques de choc lec-

trique.

Consignes dutilisation

AVERTISSEMENT

Portez systmatiquement une protection oculaireafin de protger vos yeux contre les projections dedbris ventuelles.

Ne portez que des gants de travail en cuir. Ne jamaisprendre en main un cble tournant avec autre chose,gants et chiffons y compris. Ceux-ci risqueraientde senrouler autour du cble et provoquer de gravesblessures.

Lors du curage de canalisations susceptibles de ren-fermer des produits chimiques dangereux ou desbactries, portez les quipements de protectionindividuelle appropris, tels que lunettes tanches,

visires et respirateurs afin de vous protger contreles risques de brlure et dinfection. Pour mieuxvous protger contre les produits chimiques et lesbactries prsents sur lappareil ou sur les lieux,portez des gants en latex, caoutchouc ou autrematriau tanche sous les gants en cuir. Des chaus-sures antidrapantes semelles en caoutchoucpeuvent aider viter les drapages et les chocslectriques, surtout sur les surfaces mouilles.

Respectez les consignes dutilisation afin de limiterles risques de blessures provoques par le bouclageou la rupture des cbles, le fouettement des cblesou le renversement de lappareil, ainsi que les br-lures, infections ou autres atteintes.

1. Assurez-vous de la bonne prparation de lappareil et

des lieux, ainsi que de labsence de spectateurs ouautres distractions.

2. En portant des gants de travail en cuir et en bon tat,retirez une longueur suffisante de cble pour pou-

voir lintroduire dans lvacuation. Poussez le cbleaussi loin que possible dans la canalisation. Il faut au

moins un pied de cble lintrieur de la canalisationpour viter quil sen chappe et quil se mette fou-

etter lors de la mise en marche de lappareil.

3. Mettez-vous en position de travail approprie.

Assurez-vous de pouvoir contrler la fonction mar-

che/arrt de la pdale de commande et de pouvoirlcher la pdale instantanment en cas de besoin.

Nappuyez pas encore sur la pdale de commande. Assurez-vous de pouvoir maintenir un bon quilibre,

sans risquer de vous mettre en porte--faux et

tomber sur la pdale de commande, le dgorgeoir,lvacuation ou autre lment dangereux.

Vous devez pouvoir contrler la fois le cble etlAUTOFEED lors de lavancement du cble dansla canalisation et dans le blocage.

Linterrupteur ON/OFF/REV doit toujours rester porte de main.

Une telle position de travail vous aidera maintenir lecontrle du cble et de lappareil (Figure 12).

4. Mettez linterrupteur ON/OFF/REV en position FOR

(marche avant). Ne pas appuyer sur la pdale decommande encore. Les indications FOR, OFF etREV ont attrait au sens de rotation du cble et non

son dplacement longitudinal. Ne faites pas tourner lecble en marche arrire (REV) que dans les condi-

tions dcrites plus loin. Lutilisation de la marche ar-rire risque dendommager le cble.

Dune main, tenez lAUTOFEED un maximum de15 cm (6") du point dentre de la canalisation (Figure12). Le guide-cble sert protger les lmentssanitaires et empcher les claboussures lors du re-

trait du cble. Si lAUTOFEED se trouve plus de 15cm (6") du point dentre, le cble ne sera pas suff-isamment bien soutenu et risque de se vriller, se

plisser ou se rompre.

Faites attention aux sensations renvoyes par leguide-cble, car il difficile dapprcier le niveau de

stresse que subit le cble lintrieur, et galementdifficile de dterminer sil tourne ou non. Si lembout

du cble ne tourne pas, il ne risque pas de curer lacanalisation.

Introduction du cble dans lvacuation

Assurez-vous quau moins un pied de cble se trouve lintrieur de la canalisation et que lextrmit de lAUTO-

FEED se trouve moins de 15 cm (6") de celle-ci.Appuyez sur la pdale de commande pour lancer la ro-

tation du cble. Appuyez sur le levier davancement pourfaire avancer le cble en rotation dans la canalisation

(Figures 13 et 14). La rotation du cble le fera avancer

progressivement le long de la canalisation. Lindividu qucontrle le cble et lAUTOFEED doit galement con-trler la pdale de commande. Nutilisez pas le d-gorgeoir avec un individu contrlant le cble et lAU-TOFEED, et un autre la pdale de commande. Celaaugmenterait les risques de bouclage, plissage etrupture du cble.

Si vous avez du mal franchir un siphon ou autre, luneou plusieurs des mthodes suivantes peuvent tre em-ployes.

Dabord, des coups secs sur le dos du guide-cbleavec et sans rotation du cble, peuvent aider loutil

franchir le siphon.

Une deuxime mthode consiste en lutilisation de lamarche arrire (position REV) pendant quelques sec-

ondes, tout en appuyant sur le dos du guide-cble. Nelaisser le cble tourner en marche arrire que le temps

ncessaire au franchissement du siphon. Lutilisationprolonge de la marche arrire pourrait endommager

le cble. Lorsque lappareil tourne en marche arrire,cest le levier davancement qui sert retirer le cble,et le levier de retrait qui sert le faire avancer.

En fin, si ni lune ni lautre de ces mthodes ne rus-sissent, essayez dutiliser un cble plus souple ou de

plus petit diamtre, voire un dgorgeoir de type dif-frent.

Curage des canalisations

Gardez toujours une main sur le guide-cble. Lors de

lavancement du cble le long de la canalisation, vousrisquez de le voir ralentir et commencer se vriller ou se

mettre en charge (il semblera alors que le guide-cble setord ou se tortille). Il peut alors sagir dune simple dvia-

tion dans la canalisation (siphon, coude, etc.), dune ac-cumulation de boues dans la conduite (graisse, etc.) ou dublocage recherch. Faites avancer le cble lentement

et soigneusement. Ne laissez pas le cble se mettre encharge lextrieur de la canalisation, car cela risquerait

de le tordre, le vriller ou le rompre. Gardez lextrmit delAUTOFEED moins de 15 cm (6") du point dentre de

la canalisation.

Faites attention la longueur de cble que vous avez in-

troduit dans la canalisation. Lenvoi du cble dans une

canalisation plus grosse ou autre transition similaire ris-querait de provoquer le plissage ou nouage du cble etempcher son retrait de la canalisation. Minimisez lalongueur de cble que vous introduisez dans ce type

transition afin dviter les problmes ventuels.

Le dbouchage de la canalisation

Si lembout du cble cesse de tourner, cest quil a aussi

cess de curer la canalisation. Sil sembourbe dans unblocage et que la rotation du cble est maintenue, ce

dernier commencera sembobiner (tortillage du guide-

cble) ou se mettre en charge lextrieur de
