have happened (hypothetical situation) IF something else had occurred.

Use the plus-que-parfait, introduced by the word “if” (si) to

establish the hypothetical situation:.

If I had “friended” you…

Use the past conditional to state result of the hypothetical situation:

…I would have remembered your birthday
