The night before His sufferings, Jesus,under great pressure and stress, praysearnestly not to go through this comingmisery.But in obedience He says...,

For 30 pieces of silver,Judas, a friend ofJesus, betrayed the

son of God. Judasgave Jesus a kiss toidentify him to theguards. The night

before this, Jesus prophesied to his disciples,One of you will betray me, he who shares mybread, has lifted up his heel against me.

In the struggle, one of the guards had hisear cut off by Peter. But Jesus turned and

healed the guard. After this, Jesus wastaken away.

When the guards arrestedJesus, all His friends ranaway and deserted Him.

The guards tied him up, beat him, andbroughthim to theJewish

Authoritiesforquestion-ing.

He was questioned, mocked, hit,slapped, ridiculed, spit upon andaccused by His own people. Yet during

all this, He kept silent like a lamb.

Jesus was brought before the RomanGovernor Pontius Pilot and then King

Herod. After they questioned Him, they found none of theaccusations against Him were valid. Each of these rulers

refused to condemn Jesus, as His own people demanded.

When the peoplebecame unruly, anddemanded the death

of Jesus, Pontius Pilate called in troops to control the Crowd. He then offered the crowd a deal.

Pilate had another man named Barabus, who was imprisoned for murder. He offered to free oneof the accused prisoners, whoever the people chose; either Jesus or Barabus a murderer.

The people chose

But the people stilldemanded the Deathof Jesus. PontiusPilot vehementlyrefuse. Instead,Pontius commandedthat Jesus beseverely chastised.So He was takenaway to a regiment ofRoman soldiers.

Barabus was unshackled and given

his freedom.

The Roman soldiers shackled Jesus to a post, and beat Him mercilessly.

His family watched as the Romansoldiers finished 39 lashes.

When finished, the soldiers sethim aside, put a crown of

thorns onhis headand a robeacross his

body,thenmockedHim as theirgreat King.

After Jesus is severely beaten, His ownpeople still demanded that He be Crucified. Inorder to prevent a riot, Pontius consented,and sentences Jesus to be crucified. Pontiuswashed his hands before the crowd andproclaimed, I am innocent of this mans blood.

Jesus was made to carry His cross out of the cityand up a hill. During this time, some peoplemourned for Him while others mocked Him.

Being exhausted, He fell 3 times while carrying it.

Because Jesus was tooexhausted to carry Hiscross, the Roman Soldiers

forced a man named Simonto help Jesus.

When they arrivedat the top of thehill, the Soldiersmade Jesus to laydown on the

Cross, they tiedHim down, andnailed spikesthrough His handsand feet.

The soldiers lifted Him up, and hung him for all tosee.

Some in the crowd mocked Him and said, If youare the Christ, come down from the cross so that

we may see and believe andHe saved others, why doesnt He save Himself?

Two othermen werecrucified

along withJesus; one onHis left andone on hisright.

The man crucified on His left,hurled insults at Jesus, while theman on His right said,

Jesus, remember me whenYou enter Your kingdom.

Jesus replied, on this day youshall be with Me in paradise.

As Jesushung there,the Romansoldiers

gambledfor thegarments ofJesus.

After 6 hours on the cross, Jesus died.

His last words, IT IS FINISHED!

Using a spear, a Roman soldier pierced theside of Jesus, bringing forth water and blood.

After Jesusdied, Hisbelieverstook Hisbody down,

and placedHim in atomb.

But days before this, Jesus said (John 10:17)The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down mylife--only to take it up again. No one takes it from me,

but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority tolay it down and authority to take it up again.

He rose!
