students desiring an opportunity to work with hospice patients and their families during the end of life.At the heart of Village Hospice’s services is our belief that each person deserves to live each day to its

Village Hospice has offered music therapy for more than 10 years, developing a highly effectiveprogram that is an important part of the interdisciplinary hospice team. Our goal is to provide music therapy that will reach our patients spiritually, socially and psychosocially, and bring them great peace and joy.
The Village Hospice offices are located in Lee’s Summit, Mo., a suburb of Kansas City and servespatients in 8 Missouri counties.

INTERVIEW EXPECTATIONS Demonstrate an ability to accompany while
singing with piano and guitar Sing a cappella Sight read a simple song and transpose it
into two keys (chosen by interviewer) Brief essay written during the interview (in person, whenever possible) Bring a list of 5 songs in each genre: traditional folk, old country, hymns, and big band music, and be prepared to play any of them.
INTERNSHIP HIGHLIGHTS Housing provided with minimal furnishings provided Laptop and Internet hot spot provided for documentation Serving hospice and geriatric populations Work in a variety of settings: rural, urban,
long term care facilities, inpatient units, private homes, and bereavement visits Typical intern hours: 40-45 hours per week Mileage reimbursement not provided

BACKGROUNDInternship Director Sharla Whitsitt developed the Village Hospice music therapy program and has 12
years experience. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri — Kansas City, and is certified in hospice and palliative care music therapy.
