Justification of this activity

Whit this activity we expect to contextualize some specific mathematical contents. We are taking advantage of this beautiful story to make our work more real.

This is a motivational activity that it will be developed through a cooperative project. In this particular case, our pupils will become architects and builders to the serve of Gediminas. They desire, like his leader, to build the greatest tower and city ever in their country. This city would become the present day capital of Lithuania.

I hope you like and enjoy this activity.

THE GEDIMINAS DREAM

THE BIRTH OF THE LITHUANIA CAPITAL

We are going to help Gediminas and their workers (architects, builders and bricklayers) to build the dreamed tower and the city of Vilna. Once you solved each these mathematics activities you will be rewarded with part of the tower or a house of the city. With them you should build the whole city and the Gediminas Tower.

Here we go! Good luck and enjoy!

The Gediminas builders should buy 3432 bricks to build the tower, 867 cement sack bag and 745 kilos of sand to mixture with cement. The price of the bricks is 1,59 litas each, each cement sack bag 24 litas and each kilo of sand cost 0,23 cent of lita more than the price of cement ¿How much will be the total of everything?

These are the prices of the stuff necessary for his bricklayers. Put in order and calculate these additions in both directions, the total in both must be the same.
