Here I’m going to talk about four dragons who appear in some mesopotamian legends.

Tiamat • Tiamat is a dragon who symbolizes the

ocean water , the beginning of the life with the god Apsu who symbolizes sweet water .It has got two figures; an snake or a dragon, with two or four limbs, wings and horns.

• The legend of Tiamat says that from her (who symbolizes the chao) were created the sky, the land and after that with Apsu’s help the first gods.But the legend tells us that this gods broke the peace and their mother ,Tiamat, was worried about them.

• One of her children killed her.When she was dying she cry and with her tears the Tigris and Euphrates rivers were created.

• It is a dragon who takes care Isthar portal.He has got an snake body , re-covered with hards flakes,with six legs( four cat’s legs and two bird’s legs), and his head has got a forked tongue and an straight horn.

• It is a dragon who spits fire by mouth , and it was sent by the storm god, Elil, to terrorise humans and get revenge on humans because they disobeyed Elil.

Azhi dahak • It was created by an evil and

destructive spirit,Ahriman, to challenge the supreme god, Ormuz.

• Azhi Dahak had two figures: a dragon and a snake who flies in the sky and who had got three heads.He was created to destroy humanity with pain and dead .

• The fire god fought against him until locked him inside a mountain.But before that Azhi Dahak had already killed half of the humanity.
