ANILOX ALPHA RANGE

B.E.L’s established Anilox Alpha Laser technology is the natural choice. High peak power andbeam quality, pulse widths in the range of a few tens of nanoseconds and limited beamdivergence. When laser engraving ceramics cells the Alpha Range produces smooth walls,flat bottom and near zero taper allowing a free flowing ink release from the Aniox Roller, forhigh quality flexo printing.

ANILOX ROLLERS AND SLEEVES LTT COMBINATION PRINTING

Anilox LTT laser technology has opened up a new perspective for flexography. It gives apredetermined volume from the Anilox Roller or Sleeve with double the number of cells tothe printing plate. Therefore providing an even coat weight with superior control forcombination printing.

The fundamental difference lies in the approach. The Anilox LTT rollers are laser engravedwith a different cell structure than in conventional methods. Two different size cells areengraved adjacent to each other with different depth and surface technology. In thisformation the ink transfer occurs unaided as a coating from the Anilox cells. The LTT laserengraving technique thereby makes use of the law of physics, which states that a large dropof ink has a different surface tension to a smaller adjacent drop. This is where the LTTstrength lies. When the surface is covered evenly, the smaller ink droplets flow more easilyinto the larger ones. This process does not work as well when the droplets are the same size,as they are with the regular 60 degree cell structure.

B.E.L. C02 LASER TECHNOLOGY

C02 LASER ENGRAVING as the name suggests uses carbon dioxide, other gases, as inHelium (HE) and Nitrogen (N2) are combined to generate the laser light or beam. Speciallymade lenses to focus the beam, for the best engraving results are essential, to maintain thegeometric consistency of BEL’s Laser Engraved Ceramic Anilox Rollers and Sleeves.

ANILOX LASER TWO TONEThe Laser Two Tone has it´s fifteenth anniversary next month and is marked byover fifteen thousand roll installations world wide, which indicates the on goingsuccess of this unique cell structure.

BEL’S laser methodology has opened up a new perspective for flexography. TheLTT gives a predetermined volume of ink with double the number cells on theAnilox roller to the printing plate. The LTT therefore provides an even coatweight of ink with superior control for combination printing.

The fundamental difference lies in the approach. The LTT rollers are laserengraved with a different cell formation to that of conventional methods. Twodifferent cell sizes are engraved adjacent to each other with different depth andsurface technology.

Within this structure the ink transfer occurs unaided as a coating from the cells.The LTT laser engraving technique thereby makes use of the laws of physicswhich states that a large drop of ink has a different surface tension to a smalleradjacent drop. This is where the LTT strength lies. When the surface is coveredevenly, the smaller ink droplets flow more easily into the larger ones. Thisprocess does not work as well when the droplets are the same size, as they arewith the regular 60 degree cell engraving.

Two Tone cells have a small and large cellular designed for consistent beneficialcontrol of the ink flow to the plate. The roller has the ability to carry volumeeven when it is worn. Land around the cell doesn’t increase as dramatically thanwith the normal 60 degree cell engraving. As the roller is wearing, the uniquestructure carries on feeding the plate with ink throughout its life span,presenting generous superior qualities for longer.

As the cell wall wears with a standard 60 degree angle engraving, the landaround the cell gradually increases in size, making the cell smaller thus reducingthe volume carried. Therefore the colour reduction may occur more quickly thanexpected resulting in modest amounts of density being applied to the plate anda significant reduction in print quality.

The laser Two Tone is therefore, without doubt a far superior product providingadvanced surface technology for combination printing.

The two tone roll can handle a range of tones as well as holding a solid. The dotformation is consistent and razor sharp from the brightest highlights to thedeepest shadows.

Increasing the resolution of the screen count and maintaining a predeterminedvolume of ink enhances the print quality and improves definition.

As these examples show the two tone rolls are suitable for a range of printsurfaces. Whether it’s corrugated, paper, plastic films, foil or tissue the two toneanilox roller is guaranteed to impress.

We at BEL manufacture all our own engraving dies and mills and, consequently, have a veryextensive tool range of the highest quality. Included in this range is our C.C.C. conventionalchannel cell specification, the advantages of which are set out below.

ANILOX CONVENTIONAL CHANNEL CELL CONFIGURATION (CCC)

What are the advantages of this type of cell structure?

The arterial nature of the channel between each cell which allows for a precise free flowingink or coating application.The continuous capillary channel distribution system allows the doctor blade to sit firmlyon top of the perimeter wall of the anilox cell, giving total support and thus significantlyreducing roller wear.Easier cleaning of the anilox roller as the channel nature of the cell prevents the ink fromclogging and allows a free flowing cleaning facility whether engraved into a copper or steelbase.

INSPECTION

Every anilox roller is inspected with a 600 power microscope and photographs are takenperiodically, of the cell size and structure. The photographs are filed for use with future orders toguarantee absolute uniformity and exact duplication.

ANILOX ROLLER AND SLEEVE CLEANING

ANILOX BLUEBIRD SPEED CLEANING

BLUEBIRD ANILOX ROLLER SPEED CLEANER has been specially formulated todissolve water based ink, dirt and grease. Apply the concentrated Anilox rollspeed cleaner with three or four full stokes of the trigger bottle, directly sprayonto the surface of your ceramic or chrome roller, leave for five minutes and wipeclean. Rinse off with cold water before inking. Clean each day for best results.

ANILOX STAINLESS STEEL BRUSHES

STAINLESS STELL BRUSHES are manufactured specifically for the cleaning ofAnilox rollers. The grip shaped handle and robust fine bristled head ensures thebest surface cleaning action for all engraved cell specifications.

ANILOX ROLLER INSPECTION

BEL’S MICROSCOPE enables the printer to inspect the Anilox roller after cleaningto determine whether all contamination has been removed. Magnification can beset to 60x, 80x or 100x.

It is customary to put additives into flexographic links to speed up drying andimproved pigmentation or to achieve extra shine. Laser engraved ceramic Aniloxrollers can become clogged by residue accumulation, specialist cleaning productsare especially suited to deal with the problems of contamination caused by theseprocedures.

A&B SUPPLIES AND SERVICES successful development of new chemical scienceand correct cleaning procedures for the Anilox Rollers or Sleeves that willguarantee keeping machine down time at a minimum and saving on productioncosts while achieving the highest print quality.

ANILOX BLUEBIRD DAILY CLEANING

This can be done by simply lifting the top of your (ink) container, including pumpand viscosity-sensor. Put the top on an empty container or bucket and fill withA&B BLUEBIRD daily cleaning product (delusion ratio 1:10 and water). After thepump has been started, the liquid circulates in the ink system. Because of thisthe complete unit, including the ink-try, Anilox roller, pipes, pump and viscosity-sensor are cleaned in approximately 5 to 15 minutes. The daily cleaning willstrongly reduce the clogging effect on your Anilox roller.

ANILOX BLUEBIRD CIRCULATION CLEANING

Elements in the ink, that can hardly be removed from the Anilox Laser EngravedCells, mainly has to do with the fact that ink, lacquers etc. need to be dry in aninstant after they are transferred onto the substrate. The need to achieveimprovements in terms of covering and colour strength, therefore, inkmanufacturers are forced to use more additives in their ink which are verydifficult to remove from the Anilox Roller. As a result circulation cleaning isessential.

A&B SUPPLIES AND SERVICES has developed special products for this kind ofcleaning. Circulation cleaning in many cases can be done in the printingmachine, with the help of a container, in which the fluid and the Anilox roller areslightly heated as the roller turns in the print station. ANILOX BLUEBIRD DEEP CLEANING

This procedure is performed outside the printing press A&B Supplies andServices is able to complete this deep cleaning for you at our factory inManchester. However, you can also consider investing in a tank yourself. We areable to deliver one to you, tailor made. The Anilox cylinders are put into a tank,filled with a slightly heated fluid and the roller slowly turns around. After sometime, depending on the degree of ink pollution, the Anilox Roller or Sleeve, isthoroughly rinsed off with cold water.

After this treatment the Anilox or Sleeve cylinder is restored to near originalvolume and ready again for a long period of use without any problems, as long asthe daily cleaning is properly applied.

A&B Supplies and Services have available specially developed products for thecleaning of water based, solvent, UV and many other types of inks and liquids,including plate cleaner.

MICROSCOPE ANILOX INSPECTION SYSTEM

Microscope at a magnification 125 x to check the Engraving Cells condition aftercleaning. TV Monitor enables you to see the engraved Anilox cell specification foranalysis. Line measurements for precise measuring of the cell specification andline thickness. Video printer to print out periodically hard copy for fillingthroughout the life of the Anilox roller or Sleeve.

BEL’S ANILOX VOLUME STANDARD

BEL’S VOLUME STANDARD is a quality control system which determines whetherthe Anilox Roller is in good condition, worn or contaminated. This VOLUMESTANDARD apparatus measures a very accurate area and provides a volumecarrying capacity.
