One of the most popular shuttering system is the user-friendly ‘stepped’ HONOR shuttering. This lightweight, aluminium system is robust and ex-tremely strong and consists of atleast one, though usually three shuttering sections, which are very easy to use, either manually or with a mechanical digger. The number of sections re-quired depends on the depth of the grave.

The term ‘stepped’ comes from the va-riation in the length and width of the shuttering sections, dimensions which take account of the limited amounts of space available. Ensuring that activities can be carried out easily and safely (manually as well as with mechanical digger), the section with the largest

dimensions is dug directly into the surface of the ground. The smallest section is added last, at the deepest part of the grave. The smallest section is the last one to be added and is also the first one to be removed. This way the grave is gradually dug deeper in stages, with each stage benefitting from the support and safety of the previous shuttering section. Filling the grave is done safely by first removing the smal-lest, and lowest section, and then back-filling until the soil reaches the bottom of the next section, which is then remo-ved and backfilled, and so on until the grave is filled. Each section consists of four separate components – two longi-tudinal sections, plus two end sections, making it very easy to install or remove the shuttering.

Shuttering systems ensure that the grave does not collapse

during digging, or worse, at the burial! This keeps both the

gravediggers and the mourners safe. As you already probably know, Health and Safety has

drawn up rules and regulations to improve safety in the cemetery.

In the decades since HONOR first designed its system they have

been closely linked to the latest technologies, mechanisation,

working conditions, ergonomics, practical applications, and of

course your requirements. This has resulted in the HONOR ‘stepped’ shuttering system,

which is derived and specifically designed from the original.

HONOR keeps in close contact with the people using the equip-

ment and is therefore able to combine your needs and wishes

with our extensive experience that has accrued since 1948.

The HONOR system can be supplied with several ascending

‘stepped’ shuttering sections. These ascend from one to three

sections and can be expanded with an ‘extension section’ if required.

Stepped shuttering system Construction As already mentioned, the HONOR shuttering system can be used manu-ally or with a mechanical digger. The lightweight section components are made from double-walled aluminium with integrated reinforcement ribbing and twin handles. All four components of each section are finished with a cut-ting edge developed by HONOR that makes it easier to push the shuttering section through the soil. The whole structure is welded which helps incre-ase its useful lifespan and provides you with many years of reliability. The system uses a unique approach to join the lon-gitudinal and end components together which is done by way of U-shaped guides. Ridges on top of the end com-ponents drop into recesses of the same size on the longitudinal components. The bottom of the end component drops onto a buffer. Thanks to the unique HONOR design it is still very easy, even under great surface pressure caused by soil subsi-dence, to remove the sections either manually or with a mechanical digger.

for convenient storage of soil removed from the grave.

Combination of the HONOR shuttering, burying equipment and working grid.

This special ridge and recess design has a multiple function by creating a single shuttering section from four

separate components. This means that the end components automatically

release when the shuttering is manually removed during

propping but when removing with a mechanical digger

using the HONOR hoisting bar, the ridges ‘carry’ the end components of the

shuttering section.
