Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility Resource Guide Version 4.4

Summary The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility provides an easy- to-install, consistent, documented way to implement unattended EDC Batch Settlement. NCR Hospitality Channel Partners, NCR Local Offices, and Self-Supporting Aloha Large Accounts will find this a valuable tool in their “Aloha Support Tool Box.” The program can be up and running without per site installation using NCR Command Center, or the small installer can be downloaded and manually setup in minutes. The unattended installer is even smart enough to figure out when to schedule the batch to settle and what processor(s) to settle based on the EOD Event time! As is designed to run without using Winhook, a hitch in settling a batch never prevents the Aloha EOD from completing and the system up and running the next morning. The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility settles an Aloha EDC Batch unattended on a daily basis. It supports all Aloha EDC-included processors from Aloha Version 5.3 to 13.x. The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility runs on 32 or 64 Bit Windows 7, Server 2008 OS Platforms while supporting legacy PS Platforms as well.. The utility supports Single-Processor, Spit-Processor, or Multi-Process r Batch Settlement configurations. The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility , runs a Checklist before starting to: 1) Make sure: EDC POS is On; 2) There is activity to be settled; 3) There are no HLD files (Which may indicate EDC is stuck); and 4) There is not Settling file indicating an unfinished prior settlement. The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility runs unattended, triggered by a Windows Scheduled Task. Even so, it displays progress screens in the event a manager is logged in to the Aloha Server and is present at the time the settlement runs. A typical batch settlement is done in less than a minute. The utility monitors for up to 10 minutes to make sure everything finishes. The utility monitors a batch settlement every 30 seconds for up to 10 minutes to insure it completes. In the rare event it does not settle, a NCR Command Center Alert is generated so the AM Help Desk Team can deal with it immediately. Meanwhile, the utility rolls EDC back to a pre-settlement state so the site can take cards in the event the problem is not resolved. The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility maintains its own Aloha-like Debout, for accountability and troubleshooting. The power of the Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility is in its single-file Installer and Program design. It takes full advantage of NCR Deploy Manager’s Custom Deploy Feature to download and execute a single file. Everything needed for a successful install is built into the Installer. The installer even deletes itself when done! Install it and forget it. Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility License Purchase Opti ons: 1. Purchase a Single-Site license for one Aloha System. 2 An NCR Local Office, NCR Hospitality Channel Partner, or NCR/Aloha self-supporting Major Account can purchase a one-time Multi-Site License (one per office location. License covers future Aloha sites sold after the program is purchased. at no additional cost. An exceptional value! The utility is built customized with either the site name (Single-Site License) and phone number, or the Distributor’s. Purchase Option: A custom “remove” can be included to de-install or neutralize a current method of settling batches.

About BSG Programs:

To leverage Radiant Deploy Manager Custom Deploy, and, to insure reliability running BSG programs on a variety of Aloha Server Pc’s, there

was a major design problem we had to solve: The program had to work using only ONE executable file. (This was all Deploy Manager allowed)

We solved the problem by turning to a Windows standard: The Batch File . . . with a twist. BSG uses a compiler that allows our program and

the supporting programs we need to be combined into one Exe file. So, don’t let our look deceive you! A side- benefit to this approach is

our files tend to be smaller-- thus making for quicker downloads!

EDC Auto Settle Program Features

Program will work with Aloha Version 5.3, 6.x, 12,x, and 13.x.

Runs on Windows 32-Bit and 64-Bit Microsoft Windows Operating Systems: Server 2008, Windows 7 Pro. Also runs on Windows XP Pro, Vista, Server 2003 and Windows Embedded.

Uses Windows Task Scheduler to run daily. Eliminates hang-ups to Aloha POS by a “hung” batch.

Supports Aloha EDC Single Processor, Split Processor and Multi-Index configurations.

Supports a dedicated Aloha EDC Server.

 Supports Aloha EDCProcPath feature.

System Pre-C heck function verifies System is setup and ready for Batch to Settle Batch Settlement Pre-Check function verifies Aloha EDC is ready to for a Batch Settlement. Anything from POS Off to the presence of a SETTLING marker file is enough for the program to abort the settlement or fix the problem before continuing.

Program counts and records the number of TXN files in the Batch. If not TXN files, the Batch Settlement aborts. If one TXN file is discovered, that TXN file is inspected and if it is a “Settle” TXN file, it is deleted and the Batch Settlement is aborted.

Program instructs Aloha EDC to start the Batch Settlement and records the start time.

Program monitors the progress of the Batch Settlement every 30 seconds (up to 10 minutes)

Once the Program detects that the Batch has settled, it records the finish time.

If the Batch does not settle within the monitoring period, an error is declared and a NCR Command Center Alert is generated. The program exists with errors.

Program includes a Real-Time Display in the event the End-Use is logged on to Windows and is using the Server.

If a Batch Settlement fails the Program r reset Aloha EDC back to it Pre-Batch state. It stops POS in EDC, it deletes the SETTLING marker file, It deletes the Settle REQ and HLD files, Then it sets POS back to On. They site can continue to authorize cards until the Batch Settlement issues is resolved.

When a Batch Settlement fails: an NCR Command Center Alert is created to notify Service.

Batch Settlement actions are written to its own error log in the Aloha TMP folder called Debout. AlohaEDCSettle.Txt to enforces accountability and aids in troubleshooting.

Program logs activities and errors to (its own) Debout error using Aloha notation convention for ease of use.

Additional EDC Auto Settle Installer Program Features

Built for Unattended installation using NCR Deploy Manager for rapid deployment.

Confirms that a Windows Administrator is logged on. Fails if one is not.

Unattended installation can “figure out” what processor(s) are installed. Will test for a processor being current and not schedule settlement for a legacy processor no longer being used but residing on the Aloha Server.

Unattended installation Close+1 feature can determine the Aloha EOD time and set the batch to settle 1 hour later.

Unattended installation has an optional “Customer Awareness” Message screen to alert an end-user the program has been installed.

 Manual, menu-driven-installation is built-in for single-Server installation.

Easy install using Discovery Mode. Installer looks for all possible processors that can be installed and tells the installer which one or ones to install..

Installer is a small file allowing for quick download and installation.

Installer does not disrupt Aloha processes, thus it can be installed at any time.

Installer exits if it finds Aloha EDC not being used.

Option: A custom to remove an existing settlement process can be written into the program.

Installer creates an Administrator Level Windows Scheduled Task to run the daily settlement process

Installer “self-destructs” when its work is complete.

Installation actions are written to the programs activity Debout file.

Aloha EDC Auto Settle Daily Operation

The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility is diesnged to run unattended every day when a business is closed.

It is started using a Windows Scheduled Task. It can also be manually started either by Running the Windows Scheduled Task or st

arting the program directly.

Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility does show a Progress Screen when running, in case a manager be watching and is logged on.

Daily activitiy is written to the Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt for accountability and troubleshooting. This is located in the Aloha

TMP folder

The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility starts by running a pre-check on EDC:

1. Is EDCSVR installed as a Service? If no, abort.

2. Is the EDCSVR Service Started? If no, it writes this to Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt and exit the settlement for today. 3. Is EDC POS On? If no, it writes this to Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt and exit the settlement for today.

3. Is there a "SETTLING" marker file in the Processor folder? If yes, it deletes it the continue checking and trys to settled (again). 4. Is there a dangling REQ or HLD file in the EDC folder? If yes, it writes this to Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt and exit the

settlement for today. Something is wrong.

5. Are there TXN files for the Processor? If no, it writes this to Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt and aborts. If only one TXN file, checks to see if it si SETTLE TXN file. If yes, deletes the TXN file and abots as there are no cards to settle. Otherwise, writes the

number of TXN file to the Debout.

The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility next samples the processor's SETTLED marker file for its date stamp, then instructs EDC to settle the batch.. The utility writes this to the Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt as well as the date stamp of the SETTLED file.

Step 3: Batch Settlement Monitoring:Step 3: Batch Settlement Monitoring:Step 3: Batch Settlement Monitoring:Step 3: Batch Settlement Monitoring:

The Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility monitors the Date Stamp of the SETTLED marker file every 30 seconds for up to 10 minutes to

determine when and if a batched settled.. The utility writes this to the Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt.

When the date stamp of the SETTLED file has NOT changed after 10 Minutes, the Aloha EDC Auto Settle Utility assumes that

something is wrong and the batch has not settled. It then executes the Rollback Protocol., then creates a NCR Command Center Alert. The utility writes the batch settlement failure details to the Debout.AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Txt.

Rollback Protocol:: This is executed when a batch settlement fails. It's goal is to return EDC to a Pre-Batch Settlement state so the

site can continue to authorize credit cards while the batch settlement problem is researched and resolved. Specifically it will:

1. Stop the EDCSVR Service. 2. Remove any REQ or HLD file in the EDC folder.

3. Start the EDCSVR Service.

Troubleshooting AlohaEDCAutoSettle-Installer.Exe, AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Exe, AlohaEDCAutoSettle2.Exe or

AlohaEDCAutoSettle3.EXE can generate a false positive with some Anti-Virus programs.

The Compiler used to create this program has been known to trigger "false positivefalse positivefalse positivefalse positive" alerts from some Anti-Virus (AVG in particular) programs. It may say the program contains a Trojan.

Resolution: Placing the Aloha folder on the AV program's Exception Folders list, and running the program inside the Aloha

folder provides a work around on this issue.

Running 2 unattended BSG Utilities concurrently can result in both not executing.

Resolution: Stagger running of BSG Utilities.

AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Exe generates a Windows Kerne32.Dll message.

Resolution: This has been traced to other installed programs conflicting with the utility. Unless the culprit can be isolated and

removed, a workaround is to trigger the autosettle using Winhook.

Program will not run.

Resolution:

1. Make sure your are logged on as a Windows Administrator if installed. 2. Make sure the Windows Scheduled Task is linked to a Windows Administrative User Account.

3. Make sure Local Security Policies allow the Windows User to install and/or run programs.

4. If an Anti-Virus program is installed, make sure the install folder is excluded. 5 Make sure Domain Policies are not blocking it from running.

6. Makle sure Firewall Policies are not blocking it from running. 7. Make sure it is not already running.

AlohaEDCAutoSettle-Installer.Exe or AlohaEDCAutoSettle.Exe appears to stay on the

first “LOADING INSTALLER – PLEASE WAIT (1 of 2) screen for a long time.

Resolution: This utility does an aggressive interrogation of the OS using Microsoft tools when first started. It appears that either the Processor/Memory installed or Security Programs installed slow this process, thus causing the delay. It ultimately continues.
