THE FAIR

Enter the gates of the Official Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair in Kerrville, Texas, and find yourself basking in an atmosphere unlike most Texas fairs and festivals. The Fair is located adjacent to the Guadalupe River at the River Star Arts & Event Park in Kerrville. The Fair continually attracts 15,000 + attendees per year from all over Texas. Fine Arts & Crafts Once inside, approximately 180 of Texas’ finest artists and craftsmen are on site, exhibiting and selling their works. These exhibitors have qualified through a rigorous jurying process which solicits only the best Texas artisans who produce their own works. A visitor has the opportunity to meet the artisan and purchase original arts and crafts. Wine & Beer Tasting The Fair kicks off on Friday night with a special event, the 12th annual Texas Wine & Beer Tasting. This event within an event has been sold out for the past couple of years. Upon arrival, each guest is given a souvenir wine or pilsner glass for tasting, then the guests have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of wines and beers, while enjoying great food. Following the Texas Wine & Beer Tasting is a dance, complete enjoyment for guests of all ages. Music & Entertainment With music and shows on two stages and walking around, entertainment at the Fair is never a miss. There is also always fun activities for the children, such as rock walls, hands-on art projects, and an art gallery just for kids, just to name a few. Another popular event is the Texas Star Talent Contest, an exciting singing contest where contestants compete for recording studio hours and talent agency contracts. Art Demonstrations & Education There are a variety of art demonstrations, from stone sculpting, bead making, wood turning and firing of ceramics. Adult & youth hands-on art education will be offered in a variety of mediums. Following the concept of an old-fashioned fair, bring the family, spend the day relaxing at River Star Arts & Event, be entertained, enjoy good food and drinks, and go home with unique purchases created by Texas artisans. The Official Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair on Memorial Day Weekend offers it all.

It’s a true Texas tradition.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Emerging Texas Artist Scholarship Program Underwritten by James Avery Craftsman

The Texas Arts and Crafts Educational Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization whose mission is to offer educational opportunities for individuals as well as the public. The Foundation provides education in several ways. Youth are the answer to keeping our historic arts and skills alive. Any Texas art school may participate in the program. Any student nominated or chosen by their art school - freshman through graduate student - may participate, exhibit and sell at the Fair. The Fair will provide a wonderful venue for students to sell their works, meet fellow artists and meet art collectors, gallery owners and even potential employers. It is a chance to learn one aspect of art as a business. It provides a unique opportunity to meet artists who regularly sell in the retail art environment and learn how to do it well. Art schools have an opportunity to promote their art programs and their students’ work in a campus environment, at a very reasonable cost. Recognition by participation and recognition by being chosen as a Texas Emerging Artist, along with the scholarships and awards that are available, will benefit all involved. A minimum of $15,000 will be awarded at the 2010 Fair.
