WHAT IS A THRILLER? A thriller is a book or film which is designed to keep the reader or viewer on edge with suspenseful and sensational action. Thrillers have also been produced in the radio, theatre, and television media. This genre is incredibly large, and thrillers often overlap with pieces of work produced in other genres; mysteries, for example, are often thrillers. Many people find thrillers very enjoyable, and they appreciate the fast pacing and complex plots associated with this genre.

Camera shot used- Mid shot is used to expose Somerset's life style in his house. This also gives a good understanding to the audience about Somerset's personal life.

Mise en scene : The curtains being shut in this scene show that he is a very reserved person. Also the status on his shelf shows how he is a very culture person. Also the chest set indicates that he is a smart and intelligent man.

Sound: The slow pasted music indicates the peace and quiet in his house.

The effect on the audience: In General this builds up tension towards the audience as they ask themselves what type of character Somerset is set to be.

Camera: This is a close up image of summersets personal belongings. The effect of this close up is for the audience to see what possessions he owns.

Mise en scene: This image shows somersets pocket knife, pen and gun this gives a clear understanding towards the audience on what this characters job might be.

Eddting: The director uses jump cuts to move around Somerset's house and to expose his objects. This shows the audience an insight of his every day life.

Sound: The sound in this scene is still at a slow paste, you hear sounds of the streets outside emphasising his isolation inside his house.

Effect: This scene is confirming Somerset's character as being neat, tidy and clean.

Mise en scene –In this image it shows Somerset's finalizing his blazer, also in this image the colours are very dull which is connoting how dull his life must be.

Camera: This is a mid shot image of his empty room which emphasises his lonely life.

of the dead person surrounded with blood. This creates sympathy towards the audience as its very upsetting scene

The scene is made up with different types of shots showing us what is happening.

Mise –en-scene: This scene exposes face-less murder, as the lightning that is bening used in the background lets the audience pay attention to the victims body.

The sound creates suspense as its fast and high pitch . This gives us an understanding on what has happened and how everybody is shocked.

This is a mid- close up shot of the women showing her facial expressions to the audience which gives us an understanding of her emotions showing that she is scared.

Slow drum beats in the background connotes her fear towards the little girl and gives a suspense towards the audience and getting them to think about what is expected to happen next.

The background has been edited out with a black background to emphasise the fear of the women towards the child and to create a scary atmosphere. This also gives a understanding to the audience about what kind scene it is.

The fact that she is wearing normal clothes shows that she is a normal person and her life Is normal and suddenly her son is missing. This also gives an effect on the audience because its getting them to think about her missing son and who would of taking him when she's a normal ordinary person.

This scene is conventional of a thriller because this scene emphasis the atmosphere and the emotions in a thriller film. The use of camera and effects met the codes and conventions to make this scene thriller as
