NEW STEELUNDERCARRIAGECOMPONENTSRecent evolutions in the market of MiniExcavators have led Berco to developnew undercarriage components for thisrange of machines. In particular, for 3 and 5-ton classmachine components, it was possible toengineer new parts suitable to guaranteemore resistance to wear and betterperformances.The first big advantage of the track chainconsists in the raw material choice:instead of using austempered cast iron(ADI) it has been used a special steelalloy.As a consequence, the manufacturingprocess can benefit of both forgingtechnique and faster and more efficientmachining operations. Moreover, it is also possible to applyinduction hardening to track chain partsmore subject to wear thus increasingwear life.

Berco has developed a newsolution based on a trackedundercarriage, available in bothrubber tracks and traditionalsteel track chain. The range,which already featured twoversions rubber tracks andtraditional steel track chain. In cooperation with his partnersBerco can offer:- Track Frames- Front Idlers- Rear Idlers- Track Rollers- Sprocket & Final Drive- Rubber Tracks

RUBBER TRACKSThe rubber track belts,strengthened with steel cables,have metal inserts, giving amaximum cruising speed of

about 14 km/h. The rubber tracksolution provide good grip in a greatvariety of working conditions and ensuregreat mobility even in difficult situationslike muddy soils, great slopes, etc. Allthis make the rubber tracked skid steera much more versatile and productivemachine compared to the traditionalwheeled version.

STEEL TRACK CHAINSThe steel track chains, compared to therubber tracks, provide a much higherwear resistance, higher grip (traction)and longer durability (up to 4 timeshigher). It is the recommended solutionfor heavy-duty operations, harshenvironment (steel scrap yards,demolishing sites, etc.) and anytime it isnot necessary to change often the work-site.

TRACK CHAINS WITH BOLT-ON SHOESSpecial track chains have been accuratelydesigned for optimum pin & bushing retentionand increased component life. Exclusive heattreatment give Berco links consistent surfacehardness, unmatched hardened depth andstrong core hardness for increased componentlife. Berco pins & bushings are dimensionallymatched to the links and manufactured toprovide excellent track joint reliability. All thisresults in excellent wear resistance, strength anddurability for longer life. Track shoes, fromheavy duty rolled steel profiles, are made of lowalloyed Boron Steels with certified hardenabilitybased on Berco specification. They are throughhardened and stress relieved for high strengthand resistance to bending and breakage. Surface hardness HRC 47 for reduced wear andlonger life.• Links are forged from deep hardening Boron

CTL TRACK ROLLERSThe profile of the track rollers has been designedto ensure excellent track roller/trackbelt matching: in order to support the rubbertrack belt during normal running and preventdangerous kinks forming in the belt when themachine is working at an angle in harshconditions. Two solutions (two flange rollers andthree flange ones) have been developed witha greater axial length than track chain rollers,resulting in reduced specific pressure betweenroller shell and belt surface and thusguaranteeing a longer roller life.

CTL FRONT& REAR IDLERSThe front idlers (acting as track adjusters) and rear idlers aredesigned to ensurethe minimum winding angle for the rubber track belt and thebest pressure distribution,thus guaranteeing the longer life of the rubber componentsand greater machinestability. In particular, three are the available idler versions:

With laser welded steel forged roller shell,induction hardening, bimetallic bushing andheavy duty cast iron seal groups Berco canprovide the best solution for every need.

The outer shell of the idlers is made of austempered ductileiron (ADI) or forged and induction hardened in case of singleflange.

Double flange idlers better eliminate vibrations generated byconventional single flangeidlers and provide a “smoother ride” because the idlers rollinto the flat outer surface of thetrack belt avoid bumping up and down following the metalembedded parts of the rubber belt.Single flange idlers, provide best de-tracking resistance, whiletriple flange idlersprovide the best compromise between comfort and de-tracking resistance.

ADDING VALUE TO YOUR BUSINESSState-of-the-art 3D modeling, Finite ElementAnalysis (FEM) and Rapid Prototyping enables todesign, optimize and evaluate a componentbefore it is built.

Artificial Intelligence techniques are currentlybeing developed to automatically inspect 100% ofcomponents. Reliability Test on components arecarried out to determine life and performance in avariety of field applications.

Berco Metallurgy Laboratory employs advancedmachines such as an electron microscope withmicroanalysis, a spectrophotometer, tribometersfor wear tests, MTS presses for static and fatiguetests (also at extreme temperatures -70°C ÷250°C) on materials and components.

Huge efforts are also devoted to the developmentof New Materials and improvement of the HeatTreating Processes, to guarantee longer productlife and superior products.

Photo-elasticity and Strain Gauge techniquesare commonly used for stress and fatigue analysison individual and assembled components.

STATE OF THE ART PRODUCTION

With a capacity of over 250,000 tons of finishedproduct, Berco manufactures more than 180,000track chains, 6,000,000 track shoes,1,300,000 rollers and 320,000 idlers andsprockets per year.

Track links are forged, quenched, tempered,machined and induction hardened on the railsurface. Bushings are turned and drilled in doublespindle lathes, case hardened, ground andsuperfinished (lapped) for longer seal life.

Track shoes are either hot rolled or forged foroptimum internal grain flow and stronger coreresistance, through hardened and stress relievedfor perfect geometry and excellent resistance tobending.

Complete track chains are then assembled in afully automatic transfer line (Berco Design) whereall important parameters (torque, lubrication, sealspositioning, etc.) are monitored.

Rollers are forged in two halves, welded inautomated welding stations, through hardened,machined and finally assembled with shafts,hubs, collars and seal groups.
