    Foreword

The English Support contact lessons take place during the 21 day program. This is anelective and the classes can range from 16 to 20 fire fighters.

The overriding goal is to build enough confidence in these contact sessions for each andevery one to feel comfortable with speaking English.

The first three contact sessions are used for each person to write an introductory articleabout themselves and then as a group to write a poem, paragraph or motivationalparagraph.

Each person writes the introductory piece about themselves and this is to read to me whilst Itype this up. This is a one on one session and allows for the correction of grammatical andspelling mistakes.

It is always an enriching experience as it allows me to see what the youth are about and thesocial- economic challenges that have to be faced. It is always gratifying to hear what hasbeen achieved and the reason that they have become part of Working on Fire.

Man is all about words and these have the ability to move a person and this they certainlydo.

The second three contact sessions are spent organising the English Support prize giving. The prize giving is videoed and each student is given this as a memento. I am alwaystouched by the prize giving, the abilities that are displayed and the spirit in which it is done.

For each of these 22 fire fighters I wish a world of opportunities, the ability to see these andthe willingness to grab them with both hands.

Life can be tough but never give up

To those reading this article and feel like life is unfair and they want to give up , dont. Yes lifeis sometimes unfair and sometimes fair. Yes we are coming from different homes but we arestill here surviving. God is with us every day, every hour, every minute and every second. We tend to forget him when things go well for us and remember him when things are toughbut we are his children, he will never chase us away. Remember he created us, he is theone making plans for our lives. We can plan it but at the end of the day its his decision. Allhe needs from us is to kneel down and pray.

It doesnt have to be in church, it can be your bedroom, your bathroom, when you walkingand even in your office. Maybe things are not the same at work, just close your eyes and talkto your creator. Yes he knows your problem already, he is just waiting for you to go down on

    your knees and pray.

I would like to give you a scripture to read its in the book of David Psalm 121 verse 1-3.

    Remember never give up.

    Emotions

    Emotions are things people express

They come from the heart and speak from the mind.

No need to be shy, give it a try.

And dont let the years and fears get you behind.

Always feel free to speak what you feel,

Just let it come out and let it be healed.

    Dont stress ,

    Take a rest,

And thats when youll be blessed.

    People can talk with words

But the only thing you hear is the singing of birds.

    What goes around comes around,

Dont let it get you down.

    Feel the heat,

    Feel the beat,

But the only thing you can hear

Is the sound of my heartbeat.
