Details of the malaria situation this week
Reporting rate this week (75.7%) is a drop from the previous week, 2019W4 (83.9%).
There was a 9% drop in reported malaria cases (105,566 this week vs. 116,330 in W4)
High confirmed malaria incidence continues in the West Nile districts of Moyo and Adjumani Districts. Southwards, Butambala, Kyotera and Kyegegwa Districts had comparably
higherincidence rates.
This week, Hoima, Soroti, and Mbale reported ≥3 deaths each.
Jinja, Kagadi, Lyantonde, Maracha, Mubende, and Namayingo Districts had the highest proportion
of facilities reporting stockouts of ACTs.
27% (35/128) of districts treated ≥15% of patients who tested negative were treated with
antimalarial
About 50% f districts had over half of their facilities reporting RDT stockouts. Kampala, Buliisa
and Kumi Districts reported over 70% of health facilities reporting ACT stockouts.
Of all the districts, 50% (64) had reporting rates <80%. This requires improvement for enhanced
data quality
Adherence to treatment of who were tested negative for malaria remains poor
Recommendations
RHITES-E to support Mbale RRH investigate deaths
MAPD to support Arua RRH and Hoima RRH investigate the deaths
Malaria Control division, and District health teams to investigate the rest of the deaths
DHT, NMS, Pharmacy Division and Malaria Control Program to ensure facilities are well stocked
with RDTs in districts with low stock
High Positivity rates in Gomba, Butambala, West Nile and Busoga
