Welcome!
This portfolio is a representation of my academic progress at Wilson over the last four
years. I’ve included a list of my achievements, a resume and letters of recommendation,
WASL scores, and high school transcripts. I’ve also included a summary of my plans for
after high school and a few of my favorite projects from my years at Wilson.
While in high school, I enjoyed drama and English classes and sang in the school’s
concert choir. I also took two years of Spanish through my school’s foreign language
program. Outside of academics, I played tennis for our school, and my tennis partner and
I were number one doubles my senior year. I began volunteering at the local elementary
school as a math and reading tutor in my junior year and have since developed a love for
working with and teaching elementary school students.
This summer I am traveling with my church to Mexico to help build houses for needy
families. I think this experience will help me improve my Spanish speaking ability and
allow me to interact with people of a different cultural background. I am looking forward
to this opportunity to give back and improve the lives of others.
After I graduate from Wilson, I plan to pursue my love for teaching at Western
Washington University in Bellingham where I hope to major in elementary education. I
believe that I would make a good teacher because I work well with others and have a
knack for inspiring younger children to succeed. I also want to minor in Spanish. This
minor and my experience in Mexico will be useful in the classroom. Eventually I would
like to be a third-grade teacher and help educate future generations of students.
The pieces in the portfolio reflect my past achievements and relevant skills. I’m sure the
work I have done at Wilson High School will help me achieve my goals for the future.
Enjoy!

This worksheet is designed to help you set goals – “an ideal future”- and plan activities and
strategies for meeting these goals based upon work done in career cruising. As you complete this
form you should realize that your goals are not “set in stone;” they may change and that is okay.
The important thing is that you begin the planning process and dream a little. Please type your
answers to these questions.
Long-Range Goals
For the purpose of this form, long-range goals are those that you set for the time that
you will graduate plus five years.
Goal: Where do you hope to be in your life goals at the time of your graduation?
Examples:
- I will have my acceptance letter for an apprenticeship program as an electrician.
- I will be awaiting my dorm room assignment for the University I will be attending.
- I will be working as a nurse’s assistant.
Educational Goal: What educational goals do you hope to accomplish with your high school
diploma?
Examples:
- I plan to graduate with a high school diploma that will ensure I can apply for a job as a…
- I plan to use my high school diploma to help me get in to Community College to study...
Examples:
- I would like to learn another language and study abroad.
- I would like to take an acting course and participate in the University Theater.
- I would like to participate in student government and run for Student Senate.
Short-Range Goals
Short-range goals are those specific activities and strategies that move us toward our long range
goals or “ideal future.” The following are questions that can help you formulate your short-range
goals.
Skills: What skills would you need to develop in order to realize your goals?
Courses: What specific courses might help you with your career or personal goals?
Student Employment
Certain employment that you have while being a student can help you achieve your goals. For
example, working at a youth camp is excellent for teachers.
Remember, your goals and plans may change overtime and this is okay! Having a place to start,
with your goals in mind, will provide future guidance for you. If you had trouble developing
goals for this form, you might want to make an appointment with your Ram Team Advisor or the
Career Counselor.

High School and Beyond Plan Example

High School and Beyond Plan
Long-Range Goals
After my four year bachelor’s degree in business has been accomplished, I would like to
go to school for two more years to receive a Master’s degree in business administration.
Once finished with that it is straight into the work field, where I will be able to use my
degree as a business manager.
Educational Goal
I would like to graduate with at least the required 23 credits. I would also like to graduate
still on honor roll.
Short-Range Goals
My short-range goal is to go to a four year college, to receive my master’s degree. In
order to accomplish that I need to take the S.A.T’s or the A.C.T’s, before my applications
for college are due. I also need to talk to my counselor and look at what kind of
scholarships that I can do to get money for college. Every college that I am looking at
applying to requires you to have at least one letter of recommendation, so I will need to
talk to some of my teachers and ask them to do one for me. I will also need to write my
personal statement.
Skills
Skills that would be needed to complete my goals would be organization skills. You
would also need time management because all of these things have to be turned in at
specific times, and you cannot procrastinate.
Courses
English is something that will help me in life because I will always be using that no
matter what I want to do. Legal occupations will help me to better understand the
government for when I become an adult.
Student Employment
I am currently working at a Restaurant, and I am able to see how to deal with problems
that come up, and see how to deal with issues in the business.

Personal Statement Example

It was really difficult for me when my great grandpa passed away. I was 13 years
old and I didn’t want to think that it was true. I couldn’t stand the thought of losing him,
not being able to talk to him. I would talk to him about anything and everything that
happened in my life. He would always tell me to just forget about the bad things in life
and to move on. He said to me that he wants me to be successful in life and to do well in
school. Nothing should take away from school. It has been almost two years since he
passed away and I think I have moved on from the bad thoughts. Let me tell you about it.
When he passed away I could remember the good times that I had with him. All I
could think about was going fishing with him and my grandma, getting stung by jelly fish
when we were pulling up the crab pots. Even going over to his house on Christmas Eve
and seeing his face when he would open up the gift that I got him. He always would say
that I was his favorite grand-daughter because I would be the only kid to get him a
present for anything. He just thought that was special.
I would think about him all the time, when I was with my friends and my family.
In my room, living room, before I went to bed I would think about him. If something
came on TV that would remind me about him I would quickly change the channel. Even
if I was at my friend’s house and something came on the TV, I would walk out of the
room or I would sit there and not be in a good mood for a while after that.

When I went to school the next couple of days I really didn’t do anything. I got
bad grades on my class work and I didn’t even do most of the homework. My grades
went down from there on.
Then I realized that he wouldn’t want me to be like this. He would want me to
forget about the bad thing that happened. He would want me to still remember him but
not let everything in school go down. He would want me to still do well in school. So I
remembered what he told me and I started to do better and turn in all my work. I ended
up raising my grades. Now when I don’t want to do my homework nor even do my class
work, I think of him and that just makes me want to do the work. When I see something
on TV that would remind me of him I won’t get upset or be in a bad mood. I think of that
to be good now. I don’t want to forget about him. He has helped me get through school
and through my life. If it wasn’t for him I think that I wouldn’t be doing so great in
school right now. So I have him to thank for that.
