Average Wig Cap size

Cranial Prosthesis

• A "Cranial Hair Prosthesis" is medical insurance jargon (used on insurance forms) for a hair system for those suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions. It is essentially a high quality wig.

Insurance Issues• If you need to wear a wig because of medical

reasons like Alopecia and cancer-related therapy that the "wig" should be called a "cranial hair prosthesis" for insurance purposes?

• If you file an insurance claim for reimbursement for a "wig" instead of a "cranial hair prosthesis" you will very likely be turned down?

• Most insurance companies cover between 80 to 100% of a cranial prosthesis?

Insurance Companies are realizing your cranial hair prosthesis are more and more a necessity for those recovering from Alopecia and cancer treatments.

Filing for Prosthesis• Follow some simple guidelines to assure coverage, when it is

available through your insurance company. • When receiving your hair prosthesis, have your stylist complete an

invoice for a "cranial hair prosthesis" NOT a wig and use the following   guidelines for filing an insurance claim.

• Check the benefits of your insurance. There should be a section under "covered expenses" relating to prostheses, prosthetic devices or medical durable equipment. Most companies don't spell out exclusions so pay attention to the actual coverage. this will help your case.

• Make sure to complete the insurance form and have it signed by your physician.

• Request that your physician write a "prescription" for a "full cranial prosthesis" (not a wig) and a letter explaining hair loss and its effects. That it isn't just for cosmetic reasons but for emotional well-being as well.

• Keep copies of your sales or invoices for your cranial prosthesis. (Portions of unpaid items by insurance are tax deductible.)

• Enclose a letter to the insurance company stating the necessity of a prosthesis.

Advantages of Synthetic Wigs

• A synthetic wig also has several advantages:

• ease of care - the wig keeps its style after being washed

• lower price

Page 9: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Synthetic wigs

• Although you can find hundreds of synthetic wigs styles, not all synthetic fibers are created equally. (You get what you pay for)

• For example, costume wigs for Halloween are usually made from lower quality fibers - they are cheap and look obviously like a wig. For a Halloween party this is just fine, but for every day use you want a wig that will look like it has grown on your head.

• Luckily for you, the modern synthetic materials, which are used in top quality designer wigs, can look very realistic.

Personal Thoughts

•You can't style a synthetic wig with iron - it will burn A synthetic wig will last only a few months, if you wear it every day

• I personally prefer synthetic wigs because I don't wear them every day - only when I want to look different.

• Also, ease of care is a very important factor for me.• So if you want a wig as a fashion accessory or a way to express

yourself, then I would definitely recommend getting several synthetic wigs in different colors and styles, rather than just one human hair wig for the same price.

• But be careful - only go for top quality, more expensive synthetic tresses, otherwise you could be disappointed with

Disadvantages:

• A human hair wig needs to be styled after every washA human hair wig is expensive

Page 12: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Standard Weft

• A Standard Weft is the basic cap style for wigs. It involves hair stitched into a string mesh. A Standard Weft is generally the simplest cap type and therefore the least expensive

Page 13: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Skin Top

• A Skin Top cap is designed with a colored base to give the illusion of your own scalp directly under the wig. This is especially useful with hair styles which expose the scalp such as parts.

Lace Front-

• lace with most natural looking hairline newest technology

Page 15: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Monofilament

• A monofilament cap is designed to make the wig look as if it is growing from your own head. This design makes it especially good for individuals with little or no hair on the crown of their head.

Page 16: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

• Hand Tied

• Hand Tied caps are made by carefully stitching each hair strand to the cap by hand. This meticulous design produces a lighter wig with better ventilation than a standard weft. Wigs with this type of cap can be parted and combed more naturally

Page 18: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Capless

• A capless style cap uses a Honey Comb construction. This unique design has several benefits including: better ventilation (more cool air can reach your scalp), better simulates natural hair growth, more comfortable and secure fit; and you can integrate your own hair (pull your own hair through the holes mixing your own natural hair with the wig).

Caps

• Wigs are available with several different types of caps. The hair of the wig is attached to the cap using several different techniques. Each cap type has its own advantages. Read on for information on the different types.

Hair Types

• Wigs are available in three different types of hair.

• Human

• Synthetic

• Human and synthetic blends

Page 21: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Human Hair

• 100% natural human hair. Care of a human hair wig is similar to that of your own hair. It can be styled, blow-dried, curled, straightened and more. Just as with human hair, once a human hair wig is washed, it will usually need to be re-styled.

• Human-hair wigs are generally more expensive than synthetic.

Page 22: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Synthetic Hair

• Synthetic hair wigs vary slightly from company to company. The fibers are designed to closely match the texture and consistency of natural human hair. Synthetic-hair wigs are generally less expensive than human-hair wigs.

IMPORTANT: No heat can be applied to synthetic hair wigs as this will damage the fibers. This includes curling irons and blow-driers. Heated steam curlers can be used, but only at a lower setting

Styling Your Wig

• After shaking out the wig, always tuck all of the hair behind your ears.

• Bring forward only as much as you need to make the wig look natural.

• You may want to have your hair dresser trim the bangs to suit your face and thin the wig a little to make it look more natural.

• On shorter wigs, use a brush as little as possible. Instead, use your fingers

Page 25: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Advantages of human hair wigs

• A human hair wig lasts longer than a synthetic one

• A human hair wig is soft and feels natural, to the touch

• A human hair wig can be styled and dyed, just like your own hair

Page 26: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Synthetic or Human Hair Wig

• How to Make the Right Choice

• There are two types of wig material –• synthetic fiber and real human hair and Most people

naturally assume that a human hair wig is necessarily better than a synthetic one, when in fact it is not that simple.

• The correct choice depends on what you expect from your wig, how you are going to wear it, and how much time can you can devote to caring for it.

Page 27: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

Choosing a Color

• The choice of color is a personal one, but there are a few general rules:

• If you have black hair, choose darkest brown for a more natural look.

• Another rule is that, as we age, a lighter color is more flattering.

• So if you're a brunette and going grey, consider choosing a wig in a lighter shade of brown, possibly with highlights, which give a softer, more natural look.

• Now is your chance to experiment with color without subjecting yourself to a long, expensive dye job in a salon.

• Try a wig in a new color instead and you may be very pleased with the compliments you receive.

Page 28: Wigs 101 Why women wear Wigs???

• No More "Bad Hair Days!"While the thought of losing one's hair may be frightening, many women enjoy trying styles and colors in a wig they would never have dared to try with their own hair. Some women buy more than one synthetic wig and change wigs to suit their mood. The wigs always look good and they require almost no effort. There are no more bad hair days. In fact, quite a few women continue to wear their wigs long after their hair has grown back, especially when they're in a hurry and don't have time to get to the hair dresser. You may be one of them.

Putting on Your Wig

• Remove the hair net it comes in, and shake out the wig. If you wear glasses, remove them. Holding the wig at the sides, with the woven label in the back, place it at the middle of your forehead and slide it on from front to back. Then adjust the top front of the wig's cap so that it's is on your natural hairline. The wig won't look natural if it's pulled too far down in front and it should never be placed over your ears. The ear tabs should be even and slightly in front of your ears. Push the wire in the tabs towards your face to make the wig lie flat against your head. If the wig slides up, you need a larger size. If it's too big, roll it up once it's on your head to adjust the back tabs.
