Whippet consists of offices in London and Melbourne, each staffed by around eighteen uniquely talented individuals. Unlike most agencies with multiple global studios, Whippet makes full use of the time differences to enable super fast turnaround and round-the-clock activity.

Currently, there is a small team in the London office dedicated to delivering creative support for Australian projects. Each day a Skype briefing takes place between offices, and the London team receives instructions for new creative, feedback on running projects and updates on other activity. The time difference allows for new creative to be briefed at the end of the Australian working day with turnaround completed by the next morning. With full access to servers in both locations, each studio has the ability to pick up and run creative regardless of where it has been originated.

For clients, Whippet use the project management system ‘Basecamp’ to simplify and enhance the project process. This cloud based system allows for complete tracking of a project by both client and agency with easy access to all relevant files and design stages, whilst avoiding issues with email file size limits and lost communications.

For each client, a dedicated team is assembled to deliver the desired requirements and based on a head count of between two and eight people. Each team is tailored to the individual client needs with different balances of strategic, creative and operational focuses. This is also supplemented by a dedicated but flexible resource in the UK studio of four creatives including creative and design directors.

Although a small studio, we adapt quickly to new business requirements and easily flex our resources to accommodate shifts in workload. We have recruited, created and tailored new teams for every new client we have won and would anticipate the same process for Colgate also.

journey2007 - Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms

Initially Whippet was engaged to work with Tesco Telecoms to develop and design the brand identity for the Tesco Mobile phone network but our role expanded quickly to encompass the entire Tesco Phone Shop offering. As guardians of the Tesco Mobile brand we continue to define the graphics and communications for both the network and the 250+ stores across the UK.

2008 - Tesco Bank, Tesco Direct

Following on from our experience in the telecoms arena we worked with Tesco on their transition from a financial services provider into a bank. This involved retail audits and design proposals for how banking could be delivered into Tesco stores in addition to standard campaign activity. In 2009 we also provided communication strategy for Tesco Direct (online shopping) with a particular focus on how to communicate multichannel options in-stores.

2009 - Wickes

Wickes is a DIY and home improvement retailer for both trade and consumer. Whippet were approached to help with in-store communications, campaigns and design hierarchies. We remain as their sole below-the-line agency providing graphics and communications structure to the business to this day.

2010 - Coles, Coles Financial Services, Coles Mobile

We were approached by Coles based on our UK retailing experience and particularly our knowledge of Tesco. Whippet are now engaged as their lead design agency, providing all graphic communication and design direction across in-store, catalogue, press and outdoor. During this year, we were also approached to begin work on extending the Coles brand into retail services with Coles first moves into the financial services and mobile phone sectors.

2011 - Flybuys, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor

2011 saw the opening of the Whippet Melbourne office and a brand new team to service our Australian clients. Key new clients this year included; flybuys, where we created the brand identity and relaunch campaign with Dawn French; Liquorland, First Choice Liquor where we created the new visual identity and store interior scheme.

2012 - Kraft Cadbury, Smooth FM

At the end of 2012 we pitched for and won the Christmas 2013 store activation campaign for Cadbury in Australia. This project led to further work with Cadbury including their 2014 Easter store activation campaign. Prior to the Cadbury projects we also carried out a large rebrand for DMG Radio, of Nova fame, and the rebrand and outdoor launch campaign for the Smooth FM brand.

2013 - Target

2013 brought the addition of another key Australian retailer to our client list. Having worked with Target briefly in 2012 we were appointed to help with the recent major overhaul of the brand. This has required an entire rework and rationalisation of their design language and customer communication, a redesign of the regular catalogue and press ads, plus creation and development of key campaigns including the ‘Oh My Gok’ relaunch.

2014 - Spotlight and Anaconda

The New Year brought two new clients on board when the Spotlight Retail Group entrusted both of their brands, Spotlight and Ananconda, to Whippet. We have provided a new strategic direction for the brands along with complete brand guidelines. We also provided a direction for above-the-line media which has been embraced and produced, bringing to life our belief that a retailer brand reaches to customers from the store out. 2014 has been a big year and we’re not even half way through!
