On the 6th of October 2016, double Olympian Laura Weightman visited Ryedale School in York. Laura is one ofthe most decorated Bri�sh 1500m athletes of our �me, having competed in all 4 major championships, andwinning a European bronze medal, and Commonwealth silver medal in the process. Not to men�on making the1500m final at both the London Olympics and Rio Olympics.
Laura delivered our FULL DAY Bronze Scheme event at Ryedale, which consisted of an assembly stylepresenta�on, Q&A sessions, and challenging PE lessons.
Laura aimed to inspire students and push the message that hard work leads to success, and no ma�er howdifficult your path may be, you have to con�nue working hard if you want to achieve your goals.
So lets see how she got on...

TESTIMONIALWe were delighted to host Olympian Laura Weightman (1500m runner) – at Ryedale School on Thursday 6thOctober. She began the day with a truly inspira�onal assembly to Upper and Lower school students explainingher journey to becoming an Olympic athlete. GCSE PE students in Year 10 and 11 then had the opportunity totake part in a Q&A session with Laura in the studio. Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 were lucky enough to have Lauraleading their PE lessons and, in addi�on, she delivered a ‘masterclass’ over lunch�me for our very successfulcross country teams.
Laura’s message was simple – success does not just happen, you have to work hard for it. She shared her beliefwith our students that although there will be disappointments along the way, with self belief, determina�on andthe right guidance you can be successful in your chosen field.
Ryedale students will remember this day for a long �me and we will all be following Laura’s career with interest.Thank you Laura for inspiring our students and we wish you every success in the coming season!
