Travel

Richard Baxter

Kids love it. Teenagers love it. Adults love it. Even your dog loves it. Ever wondered why traveling is loved by people from all walks of life. Traveling enlivens your withering senses; it makes you feel light and brings harmony to your mind, body & soul. But, but, but…there are things always ready to add sourness to your travel experience. And no traveler wishes those things to happen to him/her. What are those things?

Welcome message from author
Don't get us wrong, we love travelling but there are certainly things about travelling that are not so fun. Its fine every once and a while to go on a little rant and get those things that annoy you off your chest. So, we hope you enjoy our rant for the day and we are sure you will agree with some of the things we hate about travelling.

Kids love it. Teenagers love it. Adults love it. Even your dog loves it. Ever wondered why traveling is loved
by people from all walks of life. Traveling enlivens your withering senses; it makes you feel light and brings
harmony to your mind, body & soul. But, but, but…there are things always ready to add sourness to your
travel experience. And no traveler wishes those things to happen to him/her. What are those things?
Delay in Train
luggage and staring at those strange faces.
Rain
No. Don’t take me wrong. Rain is nice. Listening
to that melodious pitter-patter while enjoying tea
with snacks. It really cheers you up. But now you
are traveling…traveling to that famous fortress
you wanted to visit since you read about it last
year. And guess what? Ok, don’t guess. Obviously
it’s going to rain. So, it is raining and you run to
that shelter. You should wait, you are waiting and
you have been waiting for long. Rain is stopped.
But it’s 8 PM. Fortress is closed. Go back to your
room and sleep.
So many people dread the thought of having to put
so much effort into packing light and making sure
they do not go over the baggage allowance. Some
even run to the grocery to get some last-minute
toiletries. Packing, for some, is quite a chore.
Jetlag
Another way you can lose your holiday time is due
to the dreaded jet lag! You finally get to your
exotic destination after hours of flying and you're
suddenly hit with a wave of sleepiness at 1pm and
when you finally adjust to the time difference ... it's
time to go home! We have personally experienced
the affects this one can have on your trips.
Dirty Toilets
As budget travelers, we have seen our share of
gross toilets; Bus stations are the worst, trains are
a close second. Many restaurants can be rough too.
We can handle a lot of filth in our travels. We have
developed pretty low standards over time. But no
matter what, we both really hate dirty toilets.
There is no putting it out of our minds and sucking
it up. We just hate everything about it.
We are tired of timing our bowel movements and
having to avoid drinking fluids just so that we don’t
have to go to the bathroom. We just hate dirty
disgusting toilets and really, who doesn’t?
Cracked Heel
We live in flip flops and that is an unfortunate side
effect.
during the summer at home our feet stay nice and
soft, but when traveling our heels dry up, crack, and
are perpetually stained with dirt.
We hate our cracked heel.
We see other travelers with clean, crack-free feet
and we marvel at how they manage to keep them in
such good shape. Our feet are disgusting and we
hate it.
Kids Working
We tend to travel to a lot of developing nations.
Sadly in most of the countries that we visit, many
families have a hard enough time putting food on
their tables let alone sending their kids to school.
Instead, young boys and girls are out on the street
selling jewelry and books or making tea and bussing
tables.
It is heartbreaking to see kids missing out on their
childhood. It is even harder to see kids begging for
food or money. We hate seeing kids or anyone
suffering.
Imagine being able to take a photo of the eiffel
tower without a herd of tourists in front of it, or
not having to line up for hours and hours to get a
glimpse of the Mona Lisa. The world we live in is
now over run with travellers. This problem can be
solved if you were to seek out unconventional
destinations, but the greedy people that we are
want to see both!
you can't just spontaneously decide to visit an
exotic far away place.
now. When will you grow up bud? And how you
are going to reach your hotel? Did you just say
lift? Ok go…go ask for the lift with that thumb.
You will look pretty nice doing it.
Losing Way
you suddenly come to know that you are not on
a right path. You turn back, but it is all tangled. You
look left, right, forward, backward. You are
screwed. You are so screwed. Now go back and
find the right path; don’t just stand here. Huh!
Culture Shock
A lot of people are very used to home comforts
and overseas everything is different from the
culture, to what you eat, to normal everyday
things like shopping. Food is unlikely to be what
you are used to back home. This is something
you will have to adapt to and if you would like
an easy transition you might like to consider a
structured experience like an adventure tour,
gap year program or volunteer work abroad.
Language Barrier
Not being able to communicate is a big issue for a
lot of backpackers but we recommend you try
learning a few local phrases which will really
improve your trip and experience, even if it just
the basics.
The destination is not at all worth it
What’s to see in a temple? What makes this street
so interesting? Ugh, the place is polluted! These
are the kinds of complaints you’ll say when you
travel to not-so-convenient destinations. You’ll
think that hopping on that plane would not be
worth it.
You know lots of people who dislike travelling
because they’re already thinking of potential
expenses. You hear excuses like You don’t have
enough, the tickets are too expensive, blah blah
blah. You can’t blame them because it is partly true.
Travelling will require you to spend a good amount
of moolah.
home
People hate to travel because they’re so afraid to
get out of their comfort zones. Weather is
definitely a make or break when it comes to
deciding which place to go next, and I can totally
understand why.
The food sucks
Guilty! The only thing that really puts me off when you
travel is whether or not
you will like the food. You love eating but you usually
stick to what you’ve already tried. You're sometimes
afraid to not get your money’s worth when buying
food that you might not end up liking.
Don’t like meeting new people
Guilty! Again. Like you, some people are not good
at small talks and first impressions. You are not so
comfortable with getting to know other people,
mingling with them and separating from your
travel companions
middle of your trip and running out of money!
Sometimes we can get a little over excited
wanting to experience, taste and drink
everything a new destination has to offer, but if
we aren't careful we can max out a credit card
in a number of days. Set yourself a limit and
stick to it, it is not worth coming home to a
giant bill at the end.
It’s always a sad goodbye
We go to the perfect place, have a blast on an
amazing trip, but we have to leave and say goodbye.
We’ll go back to our daily boring lives. Everybody
hates this part.
Conclusion
Don't get us wrong, we love travelling but there are certainly things about travelling that are not so fun. Its
fine every once and a while to go on a little rant and get those things that annoy you off your chest. So, we
hope you enjoy our rant for the day and we are sure you will agree with some of the things we hate
