USING OF CONVENTIONS

On the left you can see a shot from ‘Drive’, and on the right is a shot from our mediaOS. There are definite similarites between the set and the positioning of the character. This is pleasing as we can see how our media OS can match up to professionally madefilms.

On the left is two shots from ‘Casino Royale’ and on the right is our OS. A popular convention in Opening Sequence’s is the main character having a drink (normallywhiskey). We have also abided by this convention, and here we can see how ourOS matches up to that of a James Bond thriller

Moreover, we also dressed our lead character so that he wouldappear quintessentially American.On the left we have a screengrabfrom the classic American show‘Supernatural’, where the characteris wearing a plaid shirt and t shirt

We can see in our openingsequence that our characteris dressed in almost exactlythe same thing

A bible is something that you will most likely find around the bedside table in a motel room.

Our opening shot is of our character lyingon a bed, with the three main featuresbeing the bible, the man and the money.

By having the bible, it gives the OS authenticity as it resembles real life

CHALLENGING

This shot on the left is from the OS ofthe film ‘Enemy of the State’, which wasa film that we always felt was similarto the tone and style of ours.However, their first sequence is between two characters talking- whereas oursis set in one room, indoors, with only one character. They have multiple.

Moreover, the sequence that they have after their first scene (shown above) is more abstract than ours, with multiple images all referring to the theme of the movie, but with no narrative. In this way, ours is challenging the convention that many thrillers have; a fast paced, edgyopening sequence.

This is a screenshot from the openingscene of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, afilm that is of a similar genre andstyle to ours.However, their OS is fast moving, and filmed with a shaky camera. Although it does involve police, thisis a chase scene- whereas oursis a sit-and-wait,

Here we have the opening sequenceof ‘Quantum of Solace’, which isa recent James Bond film. Theiropening sequence is also a fastpaced sequence (though more actionthan the above). This is in extremecontrast to our OS, as ours is slowmoving and involves very littleaction at all.
