WHAT THE

A snapshot look at Snapchat for Promotions.

Page 2: What the SnapChat?

Snapchat is a photo-messaging app that allows people to take disappearing photos and videos, add text, drawing, geo-filters, and more to their message, and then send to specific recipients for a controlled amount of time.

Inspiration for the disappearing messages came to Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy after a friend, Reggie Brown regretted sending a photo to a girl at Stanford University.

More than just a disappearing act! The app has a lot more features than you think! Here are some features you may not have been aware of…

‘Video Snaps’ allow users to record and send up to

10-second videos.

‘Stories’ allow users to share content for 24-hours with

unlimited views

Photo filters allow users to add color filters, timestamps, temperature, and the speed at which you are traveling.

‘Our Story’ gives users the ability to

contribute snaps of specific live events

via location services and post to a

curated collection or store. Users not

attending the event can watch the story

under the ‘Live’ section beneath Recent Updates.

Video Chat and Instant Messaging allow users to text and video chat within the app.

Geo-filters allow users to add labels

and drawings to their photos based on

their location.

Snapcash allows users to enter their

debit information to the app to instantly send cash to their

friends.

3rd most downloaded app of 2014 in the iPhone app store.

77% of college

students use Snapchat

daily.

Snapchat has about 70 million monthly active

users.

Users send more than 700 million

snaps per day and its popularity is only climbing.

Visual sharing on Snapchat is surpassing

snaps themselves. Stories are now getting 1 billion

views daily.

“Snapchat isn’t about capturing the traditional

Kodak moment. It’s about communicating with the full range of human emotion — not just what appears to be

pretty or perfect.”

- CEO Evan Spiegel

NOTABLE BRANDS ON SNAPCHATSnapChat can be a powerful promotions tool, especially for in-the-moment interactions— here are some brands that have been successful…

GRUBHUB Leveraging the Story feature, GrubHub posts sequences of tasty photos that lead users to promo codes for their online food delivery and take-out service. We think GrubHub is doing a great job in creating something simple and engaging through the cutting-edge platform.

We also appreciate pizza in any form….even in doodles. Bravo!

NOTABLE BRANDS ON SNAPCHAT AUDIAudi made its Snapchat debut last year during Super Bowl. Audi urged people to add them on Snapchat via their other social channels. Then they developed a low-tech campaign, using only stock photos and a smartphone. Audi added clever captions to each snap, poking fun about real-time aspects of the show— like what a snoozer the game was.

McDonalds The brand kicked off their SnapChat launch by having super star LeBron James share photos in early 2014. McDonalds got several thousand followers in a few days. We’re really excited to explore the ‘chat’ and ‘here’ features more,” says Lainey Garcia, McDonald’s Snapchat lead in the U.S. “The instant face-to-face video chat has a number of possibilities for us, too. The more one-to-one conversations we’re able to have with our fans the better.”

FREE PEOPLE Free People figured out how to leverage the passion their fans have for fashion. The clothing company uses the platform to give fans sneak peaks at new collections, a look inside the company office, and to ask fans specific questions to engage them. It works.

Free People director of marketing Kathryn O’Connor says that since the content disappears, there’s little risk for brands wanting to try something new. “We keep followers guessing, so that when they go to open a snap, we have 100% of their attention,” she says. “It’s a channel where followers get real insight into the brand and what we’re doing. There is a true delight factor in that.”

1. RUN A COUPON CAMPAIGN You can create a coupon campaign similar to GrubHub. You can add doodles to your story like they did and direct fans to send doodles back for promo codes. This campaign would drive fans to buy your product with the coupon incentive and it engages with them in real-time in

2. LEVERAGE THE GEO-FILTERS AND LIVE EVENTS FEATURELarger companies like Soul Cycle have already leveraged the filter feature which is great for spreading awareness about your business and the fact that people are excited about it.

3. USE FAME TO GAIN FOLLOWERS Hand over your account to a high-profile person who is relevant to your brand for 24 hours like McDonalds did. A high-profile person would draw attention to your brand and true fans would continue to engage after the take-over period is over.

4. ASK FOR FOLLOWERSBuild a Snapchat fan base — one “Like” at a time. Ask people to follow your brand on alternate social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter. As the following increases, you can run more promotions to your loyal Snapchat fans and even reward them just for adding you on Snapchat in the first place.
