This past year, Western United FC has stretched its budget in order to grasp some of the finest talent in the Premier League. With thousands of

aspiring young footballers waiting on such an opportunity, questions were being asked whether the appropriate decisions were made in the best

interest of keeping Western’s stellar record intact. We assure you, soccer fans, that such decisions most absolutely were. Let us now introduce the

final roster for this year’s Western United Executive team.

Saman Rouzbeh “Mr. DB7”Saman is the Co-President of the Western United Soccer Association. Now in his 4th year of studies, Mr. Rouzbeh is soon to complete his Bachelor’s degree in the Aubrey Dan Management and Organizational Studies program. A league win for Saman’s club, Manchester United, seems to be a very likely possibility, though Mr. Rouzbeh is beyond any doubt a David Beckham supporter. The playing experience and sheer talent of Saman Rouzbeh will prove essential to the success of Western United FC.

Lotar NunezLotar is the Co-President of the Western United Soccer Association. Currently in his 5th year at UWO, Mr. Nunez is completing an Honours Specialization in Medical Sciences. Known for his skill both on and off the ball, Lotar will be sure to assert Western United FC as an attacking force, one not to be taken lightly.

Dave Tang “The Golden Boy”Dave is the Vice-President of Administration of the Western United Soccer Association. As with all of the executives on this year’s squad, Dave is an undergraduate student at the University of Western Ontario, and is now in his 3rd year of studies, completing an Honours Specialization in Sociology. Though a proud supporter of the Tottenham Hotspurs, Dave is a die-hard fan of Real Madrid’s star, Kaká. Dave Tang’s leadership and composure will be a key factor bringing his squad to another league win.

Haider Khalil “der Rabe”Haider Khalil, yet another returning player this season, is a Junior Executive and Vice-President of Communications with the Western United Soccer Association. Stuck in a love triangle between clubs, Mr. Khalil is equally a Manchester United, a Real Madrid, and an AC Milan fan. Despite this, his passion for Real burns a little stronger, with his current favourite player being Mesut Ozil. With an incredible ability to counter-attack, Haider Khalil is a dangerously good player, one nearly impossible to defend against.

Nishant Raizada “Why Always Me”Nishant “Nish” Raizada is currently the Vice-President of the Western United Soccer Association. Now in his 3rd year, Nish is pursuing studies in the Aubrey Dan Management and Organizational Studies program with a specialization in Finance. An undisputed fan of the Red Devils, Nish is hoping Robin Van Persie can finally capture that elusive 20th championship. However, it’s City’s Mario Balotelli and LA Galaxy’s David Beckham that have captured his heart. Mr. Raizada’s incredible creativity with the ball and his uncontested ability to score will be sure to help rack up goals for Western United FC this season.

Mark Sandor “Titi”Mark Sandor, an integral player for the club, is a Junior Executive with the Western United FC. Now in 2nd year, Mr. Sandor is continuing his studies in Health Sciences. Despite a heartbreaking loss in the finals of last year’s Champion’s League against Chelsea, Mark is nothing less than proud to call himself an FC Bayern Munich fan and sees Thierry Henry as the world’s best. Having played a fantastic pre-season, Mark is undoubtedly ready to make an even greater impact on the field this upcoming year.

Mike Culmone “Il Faraone”Straight from training camp, Mike Culmone is a new addition to the Western United Soccer Association Executive squad. Now in 1st year in the Aubrey Dan Management and Organizational Studies program, Mike will be bringing some fresh talent to the team. With AC Milan having caught his eye, it’s equally their newly discovered talent found in the Egyptian super star El Shaarawry that stands as Mr. Culmone’s inspiration. As a Junior Executive with the club, Mike Culmone will be sure to surpass all expectations laid out for him both on and off the field.

Zach Defreitas “Messiah”Newly recruited from the reserves, Zach Defreitas is another new addition to the squad, now a Junior Executive with the Western United Soccer Association. As a 1st year student, Zach is currently pursuing studies in the Aubrey Dan Management and Organizational Studies program, with an Honours Specialization in Finance. Despite having his beloved Chelsea FC win last year’s Champion’s League title, it’s FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi that has defined Zach’s view of football at its finest. Mr. Defreitas’ ability to read the play and anticipate the opponent will hope to capture yet another title for Western United FC.

Well there you have it, Western, your starting lineup. Don’t worry, the championship isn’t going anywhere

GAME TIMEAs a breather after some stressful first semester midterms, Western United, accompanied in a partnership with the Portuguese Connexion, hosted their first FIFA Tournament of the year. The tournament, held November 17th at Talbot College, had a fantastic turnout, with students and footballers coming out from across campus to take part in the madness and test their gaming skills. After all was said and done, it was undergrad Clinton who walked away with the grand prize of $150. Overall, the FIFA Tournament was an incredible success for both the club and the participants, and absolutely kicked off Western United’s season to a fantastic start. With the success of this past event, the Western United Soccer Association will hope to host a second FIFA tournament at a later date this year.

INTRAMURAL ACHIEVEMENTSThe foot of snow on the ground might make it a little obvious, but this year’s fall soccer season has come to an end with four teams emerging from the playoffs in purple shirts. With this said, representing the club as best as anyone could have hoped for, it was your very own Western United Soccer Association who walked away as the undisputed champions of the Coed Rec league, adding a new shirt to their collection. Western United’s own Dave Tang and Nishant Raizada, two of this year’s exec team, shared in the victory, bringing home the league title. To say the least, Western United’s never had shirts that looked so good. Special congratulations go out to Dave Tang, Nishant Raizada and the Western United Soccer Association on their league championship this past season.

WHATS NEW IN WUSC?Lots of people are wondering whether the club will still be in full flow as the never-ending winter of London sets in over the 2nd term. Don’t fret, although we won’t be holding any outdoor events this semester, you can still expect to enjoy the fundamentals the club has to offer. Pick-up games are still running once a week, and if demand increases, could potentially be twice a week. The only downside is that we cannot play on the turf fields across the health science building. On the bright side though, even with a White Christmas, pickups will still be running in the athletic centre’s gym on the top floor. So join us for some fun footy! Think you know what’s going on in the soccer world? Ever wanted to manage your team? Then join our fantasy football league if you haven’t already. Be part of the first group of people in Western United’s history to partake in this league. Buy and sell players, see how your decisions affect your scores each week and gloat to all your friends when your team wins!

Let’s not forget Spoke socials! The ultimate annual footballing competition in the world, the Champions League is always shown on the big screen at the Spoke, with the consensus game of choice being played. Come on down to enjoy some good food and even better football! If that’s not enough you can expect another FIFA 13 tournament later in the semester and the famed Midnight Blitz tournament to try your hand at great cash prizes! In the Fantasy League… here’s our current leaderboard! With less than half a season left, will Kevin Donovan’s “The Blues” hold off and score the $100?

El Shaarawy, or better known by his nickname which Italian fans have given him, Il Faraone (The Pharaoh), is a 20 year old Italian footballer taking Serie A by storm. Born to an Egyptian father and Italian mother, the Italian National has provided a bright spot for the currently depleted AC Milan squad.

After enduring an off season which saw their star players sold, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, Milan is going through a rebuilding stage and fans have not taken to this kindly. The team currently sits mid-table and their attendance numbers have been abysmal sending a strong message to team owner, Silvio Berlusconi. The 20 year old sensation however, is second in the Serie A in scoring with 14 goals in 19 games. He also made his national team debut in a friendly match this year against France, starting alongside Mario Balotelli and netting his first senior international goal for his country. Il Faraone says the departure of Ibra actually helped his growth and allowed him to develop as a scorer. He stated, “It was not easy playing with Ibrahimovic…really, what you needed to do was just pass him the ball, or else he’d scream at you, or just play tricks on you afterwards.”

El Shaarawy has already been targeted by some big English clubs including Chelsea and Manchester City, who reportedly were willing to swap Balotelli for El Shaarawy. However management states that El Shaarawy will remain at Milan for a very long time and that they will not be selling the young star. He has provided some heart and soul in a Milan team that has looked very lacklustre all season. The question is how much longer will the club be able to rely on their young scorer in a season where Milan went from a serious contender in Europe to an average Serie A squad. They saw one the great European strikers leave their team but now they may have found one of their own to lead the team to greatness in the future.

1) Demba Ba from Newcastle to Chelsea for a reported £7,000,000.Ba had an extraordinary debut for Chelsea scoring 2 goals in their 3rd round FA cup match. With Chelsea 14 points back of the EPL title and out of the Champions League. Ba admits they will have to make do with cup competitions.

2) Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea to Liverpool for a reported £ 12,000,000.Sturridge is more than excited to join his new club stating that it is the “biggest club he’s ever played for”.

3) Giuseppe Rossi from Villareal to Fiorentina for a reported 12.5 million euros. Rossi returns to Italy hoping to have a successful return from a lengthy knee injury.

4) Pato from AC Milan to Corinthians for 15 million euros.Pato has had a very injury riddled career thus far and has never really hit his full potential. He is returning to Brazil in efforts to return to his top form again.

Balotelli to leave City? The Balotelli transfer rumours are swirling at an all-time high, as the controversial striker has only scored one premier league goal all season. The ongoing feud with his beloved manager Roberto Mancini is growing old and Balotelli is never shy to express his desire to return back to Italy sometime in the future. Recently Mancini and Balotelli were witnessed having a training ground scuffle. Both sides brushed off the feud but tensions seem to be growing. PSG have expressed interest in the striker and so have both Inter and AC Milan.

Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard out of Chelsea? With new boss Rafa Benitez in charge, changes are coming rapidly. According to ESPN the new manager is set to sell both veteran players in the summer and maybe even as soon as the January transfer window. It has been rumoured for quite a while that Ashley Cole would be headed to PSG in the summer as even the clubs official twitter account tweeted this statement. This tweet was later deleted by the account.

Suarez to leave Anfield? With teams such as Juventus and City preparing bids for the Uruguayan striker, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has said the player is not for sale and will be at Liverpool for years to come.

Radamel Falcao headed for Premier League? According to ESPN, Chelsea has now emerged as the front-runner to sign the Columbian striker from Atheltico Madrid. The Transfer fee is rumoured to be around the hefty price of 50 million pounds. Manchester City are also rumoured to be in the hunt especially if they manage to sell Balotelli. Real Madrid are also serious contenders but some are skeptical that Athletico Madrid would sell them to their rival club.
