Non-fiction• Non-fiction books are shelved by their subject.

• For example: 523.3 FOW

The Dewey Decimal Systemcall numbers

• The system was created by Melvin Dewey, a former librarian.

• A Dewey call number always has three numbers to the left of the decimal (0001.3)

• To the right of the decimal, there is no limit to the number (001.325)

• The more numbers you add to the right of the decimal, the more specific the subject is.
