WELCOME!
January 28, 2017
Dear Friends,
I am delighted to welcome you to India Association of Greater Boston’s first-ever all-day Republic
Day celebration or “mela.” As you know, our 2015-2017 Executive Committee has been working
very hard to bring you multiple programs with different themes throughout 2016, with more to come
in 2017.
We are implementing our new vision with the goal of uniting and helping the community. The vision
includes expanding our activities by presenting one event per quarter. We also established a
community services platform to collaborate with the community, and launched an initiative to reach
beyond boundaries. With your support, we are glad to report that we are on track to achieve our
goal.
In 2016, besides our regular events, the Republic Day and India Day celebrations, our highlights
included participating in the Walk for Hunger, presenting a hit Hindi Play, “Sach aur Sach ke Siva,”
publishing a regular monthly newsletter, hosting a complimentary holiday luncheon to express
appreciation to all our members, sponsors and well-wishers; and launched a food drive. We are
especially proud that we appointed an advisory committee comprised of past presidents to provide
advice and continuity to our organization.
In 2017, we invite you to join our team for the Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 7, watch our new
Hindi play “ Chale Hans ki Chaal” on Saturday, May 13, and participate in our upcoming
innovation seminar. Our India Day celebrations will follow on August 20 and our General Body
Meeting will convene in the fall.
I’d like to draw your attention to an immediate need: One of our 2016 initiatives was to join the fight
against hunger as part of our Community Service agenda. We appreciate the community’s
response to our request to support us in our efforts to collect donations for our food drive, which has
been in full swing for the last few weeks. The last date to bring in donations is today, after which we
will deliver the food to food pantries in the Metro West Area.
If you’ve not had a chance to donate non-perishable food items, you can still make a monetary
donation at the Food Drive desk. Thank you for supporting our endeavor by your willingness to help
families who live on the brink of hunger. As the weather gets colder, people need help more than
ever. Your goodwill can go a long way in helping families facing hunger this winter.
Do register at the Membership desk to receive our monthly e-newsletter if you don’t already receive
it, and stay informed about our activities. Join us for all of them, or feel free to choose the ones that
appeal to your tastes. We look forward to seeing you at the next IAGB event.
With warm regards,
Jayashree VorugantiPresident
