Happy Birthday Florence!June 22nd marks the 100th birthday of Supreme Matriarch Florence Slattery!

Wishing Florence a Magnificent birthday, from all Hatters in Australia!

Queen Florence of Rose City Red Hatters Warwick Queensland was first to bring the red hat concept of love, laughter and friendship to Australia.

It is said she saw Red Hatters while on a trip to the US, and decided to start a chapter here.

Florence received her membership certificate on the 25 July 2001, whichis why we celebrate “Aussie Red Hat Day” on this day.

She celebrates her 100th birthday onthe 22nd June 2016!

Aussie Red Hat DayJuly 25th is the day Australian Hatters celebrate being part of the Red Hat Society. While there is no formal state-wide celebration happening, Hatters and chapters areencouraged to do something on this day to celebrate.

Annual Melbourne Picnic & Fairy PartyThe Annual Melbourne Picnic on November 20th 2016 will be a little more special this year, as we are combining it with a Fairy Picnic!

A few chapters discussed the possibility of having a fairy outing in the city, so we thought it would be great fun to do this at the Annual Picnic.

For those who would like to, you can come dressed in fairy attire (please keep to your colours if you can). However if you'd prefer not to dress up, that's fine too. We will all picnic together in the gardens and have a lovely afternoon.

We will be on the Clarendon Road side of the park – in or around the Old Bandstand. We are unable to book the bandstand, so if someone else is using it, we will need to find a spot close by. We will meet at 11:30 for picnic lunch

Remember to bring your picnic gear (folding chair, food and drink). Merchandise will be available to purchase so bring your purses!

(This outing will be cancelled if weather is unsuitable)

Arabian Nights & Majestic DaysThe hills were awash with a sea of red and purple at the end of April, when 80 Red and Pink Hatters got together for a weekend of fun (and a little business).

The weekend event saw the ladies starting out with a ride on the Puffing Billy steam train to Emerald, where they enjoyed a picnic, a stroll around Emerald Lake park and some shopping! Later that evening the ladies were dazzled with bellydance performances and had fun dressing up for an “Arabian Nights” themed dinner.

Then, after all the fun and frivolity, it was eventually time to get down to business. The Queens and Vice Queens from 21 different groups around Victoria got together to share ideas and network as part of the annual “Queen’s Council” lunch.

'An Ode to Fifty Shades of Grey' (by John Summers)

The missus bought a Paperbackdown Shepparton, Saturday,I had a look in her bag;...T’was “Fifty Shades of Grey”.

Well I just left her to it,...At ten I went to bed.An hour later she appeared;The sight filled me with dread…

In her left hand she held a rope;And in her right a whip!She threw them down on the floor,And then began to strip.

Well fifty years or so ago;I might have had a peek;But Mabel hasn’t weathered well;She’s eighty four next week.

Watching Mabel bump and grind;Could not have been much grimmer.Things then went from bad to worse;She toppled off her Zimmer!

She struggled up upon her feet;A couple minutes later;She put her teeth back in and said...I must dominate her!!

Now if you knew our Mabel,You’d see just why I spluttered,I’d spent two months in tractionFor the last complaint I’d muttered.

She stood there nude, naked like;Bent forward just a bit ….I thought oh well, what the hell,and stood on her left tit!

Mabel screamed, her teeth shot out;My god what had I done!?She moaned and groaned then shouted out:“Step on the other one!”

Well readers, I can’t tell no more;About what occurred that day.Suffice to say my jet black hair,Turned fifty shades of Grey.

Recipe CornerBaked Spice Red Wine Plums

Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced).

Cut 6 medium sized plums in half (blood plums work best) and remove the stones. Place in an oven proof dish that is just large enough to hold them. Add 4 Cloves, 1 Star Anise and 2 Cinnamon Sticks.

In a saucepan heat 1 cup good quality Shiraz with ½ cup lightly packed brown sugar.Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then pour over the plums and place in the oven.

Cook for 25-30mins, basting the plums with the syrup 2-3 times. Serve warm or chilled.

Hatter Groups Out and AboutThe Sunraysia Murray Darlings had a full day of fun with a morning tea, Op Shop/Vintage Shop Crawl, and lunch!

The Surrey Sophistatarts enjoyed a Midweek Matinee Show at the Whitehorse Centre

Kyabram Town hall had a display of vintage wedding gowns that drew theinterest of several Hatters & Chapters!

18 Red Hat ladies from Kyabram and Shepparton met to enjoy the display
