Many small business websites are what is called a postcard website. By that I mean it tells a website visitor who you are and what you do, but little else.
When deciding on your website design, we believe that there are two elements to your website that you need to consider:
1) You need to get found. You can have the greatest website on the planet but if no one can find it, then it won't help you.
2) Secondly you need to engage with your prospective customer.
If all your website tells me, is who you are and what you do, how does that help to build a relationship with you or position you as different to your competition?
We believe strongly that the process a buyer goes through in making a decision on dealing with your business is firstly:
Know Me -- they need to know you exist
Like Me -- They need to relate to you and feel that you understand them
Trust Me -- They need to get to the point where they are prepared to buy from you.
Of course the time this process takes, will vary considerably.
For example they may have an immediate need, such as fixing a breakdown in an essential piece of equipment, so they have to make a decision quickly about what business to buy from.
In other cases, say deciding to build a new home, it may take a buyer some time to get to the stage where they decide on who they are going to engage to build their home.
With that in mind, we recommend you design your website accordingly.
