Page 22: Web2-TechCon08

ResearchSchools and teachers who are innovating in this area, report:

• Web 2.0 helps to encourage student engagement and increase participation, by enabling expression through less traditional media such as video.

ResearchSchools and teachers who are innovating in this area, report:

• Web 2.0 can be available anytime, anywhere, which encourages some individuals to extend their learning through further investigation into topics that interest them.

• Pupils feel a sense of ownership and engagement when they publish their work online and this can encourage attention to detail and an overall improved quality of work.

“In September 2008 we gave away our 100,000th K-12 wiki. We know a good thing when we see it so we're giving away another 250,000 ad-free, private K-12 Plus wikis! All the features and benefits that normally cost $50/year - for free. No fine print, no usage limits, no advertising, no catches.”

Advice for selecting Web 2.0 tools:

• learning becomes independent of time, space, & place, the capacity for learning changes. Select tools based on instructional needs. –Ryan Bretag

• the tools have to be easy to use and easy to access. If it takes long to setup or involves many steps, I'm usually turned off – Helen Mowers
