Weekly Khan Academy (SAT Skills Practice): Each week students also work on an assigned set of Reading and Writing SAT skills on Khan Academy. Each skill must be completed a minimum of 5 times before moving on to the next skill. Scores must be logged on the Khan Worksheet which I provided on Edmodo. Work on one set at a time and do not skip around or work on any assignment not included on the list. Hold on to the Khan Worksheet which I will collect at a later date. If you’ve fall behind on Khan assignments, do your best to catch up and notify me so that grade changes can be made.

#1 Diagnostics Box or Recommendations: Complete the four assignments in this box before moving on to the skills below. Jot your scores down on the Khan worksheet. You’ll see that this section has a number one on the worksheet.

#2 Grammar and Effective Language Use: Begin with the first five skills (skills set 1). Focus on one skill at a time and repeat it 5 times. Log the scores on the Khan worksheet as you complete each skill. This section has a number 2 beside it. You’ll notice there are 5 blank lines beside each skill. These are for the scores. Once done with one skill, move to the next until you are done with the set. Do not jump around sets or skill. Follow the order of sets by due dates!

On Homework

When is homework due? All homework is due every Sunday before midnight. Can I make-up work? If you fall behind, you are encouraged to make-up all assignments. Will my grade be changed after I turn in late work? When making up work, notify me via remind

when the work is complete, so that I can check the work and assign the grade. Can I turn in homework on OneNote or through email? The answer is no. I need all work turned in to

the same location, Edmodo, under the specific assignment being turned in. This uploads your assignment to my Edmodo gradebook and allows me to check assignments, make comments, request resubmissions, and assign grades. It is the most efficient way for me to get grades done for all my students. If you submit anywhere else, I may never see your assignment. It may get lost amongst all the daily emails and shares I receive.

Can I take a picture and send it to you? No. Receiving the actual document is much easier for me to follow and read. Often times, I am sent too many pictures or photos are blurry and impossible to decipher. It makes the grading process difficult.

Can I handwrite my homework? No. Typed work is neat and easy to understand. Some students have handwriting that is too small, messy, or impossible to read. This would definitely slow me down, so all work must be typed.

Is it okay if I just write the answers or do I have to write in complete sentences? When students respond in complete sentences, it not only allows me to understand what the questions was, but also allows me to breeze through the grading process. When answers are incomplete or short, I have to stop - return to the question – and then return again to the assignment. Help me grade efficiently by answering with part of the question in your response.

Do I have to use “text evidence” and (parenthetical citations)? Yes, for some questions where you need to support or prove your answer, include snippets from the text and cite the page at the end of the sentence in parenthesis. Do not use long quotes.

What if I don’t understand the homework? Please do not hesitate to contact me whenever you need help with homework or other. I prefer that you reach out, rather than stay quiet because you didn’t want to bother me. Reaching out shows teachers that students care about their grades and are putting forth effort.

Communication

I do my best to be available for everyone, so I expect my students to have the same courtesy. If I reach out to you, it’s important that you reply. Otherwise, I may have to phone home or find other means to communicate and this is extremely time consuming.

Other means of communication include notes on an assignment, notes in your portal, contacting counselors or coaches, etc.

Edmodo is your main source of communication and you should be checking it daily for assignments and class/school information. You can also message me on Edmodo and I will try my best to reply quickly.

Wellness checks on Wednesdays are part of our communication and accountability. Remind101 messages are critical to our communication and success. It is my primary means of

messaging with you and sending homework reminders. Please stay connected.
