In 2009, the number of boating accidents decreased (-59) from 2008.
The number of deaths (+27), drownings (+33), injuries (+27), and property damage increased from 2008.

Over 75% of all fatal boating accident victims drowned in 2009.
Of those who drowned, 84% were not wearing a life jacket.
70% of those who drowned were on boats less than 21 feet in length.
