A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

Six months into a year(s) long pandemic seems like a peculiar time to hire a student minister. The need for a student minister is not primarily about hosting cool events by which students can make friends with other Christians, although that is a great thing. The main goal, and the reason for why this is a matter worth taking up in the midst of such a difficult time, is to address an even greater need - to be reconciled with God. Contracting COVID-19 is the result of living in a fallen world, or to say it differently, the coronavirus is a result of sin. Sin entering our world introduced death, decay, and disease. So really this disease is simply another reminder we live in a fallen broken world, separated and alienated from God. So really our focus right now should be reconciliation with God, over and above a global solution to coronavirus like a vaccine. Reconciliation with God is the very heart of Jesus' work on the cross and the center of Christian's responsibility. "All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation"( 2 Cor 5:18-19). We believe that this ministry of reconciliation is especially needed during challenging times when people are looking for answers and keenly aware of the fallen world we inhabit. For us as a church an area of reconciling ministry that is needed is in the area of students from middle school through college. We have been led over the past year by faithful volunteers, and we hope this will continue. We also believe that having a minister spend 100% of their work week serving students will greatly multiply these efforts. Our hope is that we can see students more often and more fully reconciled to God through Jesus' work on the cross by bringing on a Minister to Students to work with our faithful volunteers. Pastor Mitch

WBC PRAYER FOCUS

WBC PRAYER MINISTRY: This I call to mind and therefore I have hope;

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for HIS compassions never fail.” Lamentations 3:21-22

This verse speaks such a truth for believers – Hope. As Christ-followers we know HE is the hope! Our job is to continue in

prayer as we face new or unknown circumstances knowing that Our Lord is listening. Recall as you pray, both the hope and

compassion that our Lord’s love brings to His children. Then, ask for an opportunity to share that truth with others, pointing

them to Christ, the source of Hope!

Could you join with others who have committed to praying daily for the WBC Vacation Bible School from

July 8 through July 21? Together we can be a part of this opportunity to see God’s hope touch lives! Below is the 2020

VBS Prayer Guide. Will you help us pray?

VBS PRAYER FOCUS -- July 8-July 21

July 8: Ask to grant HIS favor and honor on all those who are serving in VBS.

July 9: Ask God to give workers strength when weary and power when weak.

July 10: Ask God to grant safety and to protect all people that participate in WBC’s VBS program.

July 11: Ask God to help all serving in VBS to joyfully do everything with kindness and love.

July 12: Pray for completion of last VBS details, as well as opportunity for the physical and spiritual preparation of

volunteers as they prepare for students to attend July 13-July 16. VBS starts tomorrow!

July 13: Pray for Bible Study leaders to effectively communicate God’s truths as they teach and for students to have

open hearts to receive and understand gospel truths.

July 14: Ask God to provide energy and stamina to those who lead in VBS worship through music; and also safety

for those either directing or participating in VBS recreation.

July 15: Pray for blessing on the snacks and those volunteers preparing and serving during VBS.

July 16. Pray that witnessing opportunities at VBS will lead to salvations.

July 17: Pray that both the VBS crafts completed and the missionary family studied at VBS will remind students of

God’s creative purposes for everything and everyone.

July 18: Pray that all involved in VBS will continue to seek God and grow in relationship with Him.

July 19: Ask God to bless follow-up contacts with new families which lead them to being part of a church family.

July 20: Pray that WBC’s 2020 VBS will continue to bear spiritual fruit and glorify God.

July 21: Ask God to provide time for rest and renewed spiritual energy for all VBS volunteers.

Thank you for your prayers for VBS. Also, please continue prayers for our Student Minister search process and many other needs for our church families, communities and nation. May you see God at work in answer to YOUR prayers . . . and give HIM praise!

“. . . I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly.”

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all

wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts

to God.

God has created music as a means of worshiping him! We have all experienced music’s

ability to enhance and stir our passions. I believe that music is intentionally designed in

this way. When we attach the truths of Scripture to the songs we sing we can see very

clearly why God has designed music this way! I pray that our love for the Lord would

continue to deepen as a result of singing together each week.

MISSIONS

What do you do? What do you do?

Missionaries and their converts face cross-cultural situations many times that we may never

have to face. We generally live our lives in our own specific historical and cultural situations. A

lot of times important cultural decisions made by missionaries and their converts cannot be

made after long deliberate thought, but must be made on the spot as any delay can have long

lasting consequences. Here is an example of a true story from Japan.

Mashashi grew up in a small village that contained two Shinto shrines and a Buddhist temple.

There were no Christians in his area. Mashashi had gone to university in Tokyo. It was there

that he had met a missionary through a group of young people and became a Christian. During

his visits back home between semesters the villagers had noticed the change in his life. He led

his brother to the faith. His mother also became a Christian after he had prayed and cared for

her when she was ill. They were the only Christians in the village. A week before his

grandmother had died he also told her the gospel and she became a believer.

Mashashi received the phone call that his grandmother had died so he returned to the village.

Preparations were already underway for the funeral. He confronted his father stating that his

grandmother was now a Christian and should have a Christian funeral instead of a Buddhist

funeral. His father flat out refused. His father had recently been elected as president of the

village. He was responsible for the village's religious activities so he did not want to upset the

200+ guests and relatives attending the funeral.

The next day was the funeral. At the end of the ceremony the family stood in line. His father

was first, followed by his mother. Mashashi being the eldest son was third. His young Christian

brother was next watching him to see what he would do. Each person was expected to offer

burning incense for the dead. All the family and guests focused on Mashashi as it was his turn

to venerate his grandmother. As he approached the coffin, Mashashi . . .

What would you do? What would you do!?

been 290,000+ cases confirmed in the State of Sao Paulo with 15,030 deaths. Yet even in the midst of it

all, Brian still has encouraging words to say on Facebook.

of it! We are praying God will bring more individuals and families to join our team.

Belize has had a total of 28 cases of CV19 with 2 deaths. They are starting to ease some of their lockdown restrictions internally and are scheduled to open up their borders on August 15. For more details, visit the Belize Tourism Board website at Belize COVID-19 Update for Travellers | BTB
